❖ Uniform Circular Motion

2
Uniform Circular Motion
When an object moves in a circular path
with constant speed it is said to exhibit
uniform circular motion.

Uniform circular motion is called an

accelerated motion as the direction of
the velocity changes at every instant of
time.

The direction of the velocity at any point

for an object moving in circular motion
can be found out by drawing a tangent
at that point
Centripetal Force
For any object to exhibit uniform
circular motion has to be under the
effect of a force which is directed
inwards towards the centre.

This force is called as Centripetal

Force.
Formula for speed
v = 2πR
T

Where R is the radius of the circular

path

T is time taken to complete one round

Q - Calculate the magnitude of the velocity of an object moving in a
circular path of radius 70m and takes 2 min 20 seconds to complete
two rounds
v = 2πR
T

Time for two rounds = 2min 20s = 140s

Time for one round = 70 s

v = 2 x 22/7 x 70
70

v = 6.28 m/s
Q An object moving with a speed of 40m/s in a circular path covers
one round in 22s. Calculate the radius of the circular path.

v = 2πR
T

Time = 22s

Speed = 40 m/s

40 = 2 x 22/7 x R
22

R = 140 m
