CASE STUDY 1

Patient A has runny nose and headache since the morning. When he returned to the office,
he could not stand the chilling air-conditioning (and wished that he had brought his jacket).
By late morning, he developed a fever and started coughing. There is no sweating even
though the temperature outside is 32 degrees Celsius. His throat is dry, and he is thirsty.

Patient is likely suffering from a wind-cold flu.

Here’s a list of common TCM remedies for his illness:

Ginger Tea

• Ingredients:

1. Ginger (Shen jiang 生姜)


2. Brown Sugar (Hong tang 红糖)

Tea-Blended Sichuan Lovage Powder

• Ingredients:

1. Sichuan lovage root (Chuan Xiong 川芎)


2. Mint (Bo He 薄荷)
3. Notopterygium root (Qiang Huo 羌活)
4. Dahurian Angelica root (Bai Zhi 白芷)
5. Schizonepeta stem or bud (Jing Jie 荊芥)
6. Ledebouriella root (Fang Feng 防風)
7. Licorice root (Gan Cao 甘草)
8. Black tea leaf (Cha ye 茶叶)
