Mixing with the PC System using 10540GNS Genesis Base and Pigment Concentrates
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
10540GNS GENESIS Base is used to make high productivity wet-on-wet and opaque inks or printing on cottons,
cotton blends, polyesters. Inks fonnulated with GENESIS base and formulated within recommended guidelines will
have excellent resistance to build up and exhibit excellent printability. Please consult the WILFLEX® User Manual
or Product Information Bulletin for additional information

COLOR APPROVAL SPECIFICATIONS (continued)
Excerpt from PANTONE Color Formula Guide:
"Some difficulty in achieving good matches to all 1012 PANTONE colors is caused by, but not limited to
one or more the following:
The generally opaque nature of screen ink systems which reduces their ability to achieve the same level of
brightness found in many PANTONE colors.
The use of pigments that are different from those used in the PANTONE Color Formula Guide. This causes
some colors to look the same under one light source but different under another (metamerism).
The variety in color and texture of the screen printed surfaces which alter the finished appearance of the
matched color. 11
FORMULATION RULES
1. The PC/ Base Ratio Chart is used for calculating the recommended minimum and maximum amount of PC
used with Genesis Base. Generally, 20% PC may be added to Genesis, however, we strongly recommend the use
of this chart when formulating new recipes. All pigments have different plasticizer levels and the published ratios
can allow maximum pigment loading when formulating.
PC/Base Ratio represents the amount of base required for every gram of specified pigment concentrate.
Note: The Wilflex Color System Software will automatically calculate min. and max. base requirements.
Example of a Test Formula using the PC/Base Ratio Chart to manual calculate minimum and
maximum base requirements.
Test Blue Amt Grams
10540GNS Genesis Base 250 grams
1011 0PC Extra White PC 50 grams x 2.5 = 125.0 grams
11650PC Marine Blue PC 15 grams x 2.74 = 41.1 grams
18010PC Electron Blue PC 10 grams x 6.25 = 62.50
Minimum Base required grams
2. 1 O 11 0PC Extra White PC 228.60 grams
A minimum add of 1.6% of 10110PC to the base amount is recommended. This minimum addition of white will
provide limited opacity to your :finished color.
A maximum of 40% of 10110PC is recommended for optimum washability and print performance.
3. Fluorescent PCs
A maximum addition of 16% of Fluorescent PC to the base amount is recommended to insure build-up free
printing.
4. Use l000OGNS GENESIS Halftone Base as your base for color shades requiring high levels of
fluorescent PC
5. Use no more than 4 PCs (including white) in a recipe. This will reduce production accuracy
difficulties.
6. Do not formulate with ingredients less than .1 of gram. This goal is to minimize small ingredients and
insure production accuracy.
7. lOOOOPC Clear is not recommended in Genesis fonnulations to allow for build- free printing ,
maximum product performance and opacity.
Use 10150FNS Finesse as your base when formulating process or metallic shades.
Be sure to completely mix the ink prior to color evaluation. Under dispersed base or pigment streaks can give
false color readings
Complete curing of the ink is important. Check the cure temperature at the ink surface. If color approval
is initially evaluated on a Leneta Opacity Chart, it is necessary to print and cure on fabric.
A printed swatch on the actual fabric will provide the most accurate color to production specs.
Preprint and test all fabrics for dye migration. GENESIS colors have no built-in bleed resistance.
Using an underprint bleed resistant white will provide bleed resistance. Always preprint and pretest
all fabric for dye migration.
Genesis Halftone Base is used to make specialty Genesis printing inks. Genesis Process Colors, Genesis
Fluorescent and Genesis colors blended with fluorescent PC's are formulated with Halftone Base which allows
colors to be bright as well as resistant to build up.
Genesis Halftone base may be used as an extender for Genesis Process colors when higher viscosity process
colors are desired.
Genesis Halftone base may be used for metallics but 10150FNS is preferable.

• Finesse may be used as a base and mixed with small amounts of pigment concentrates to product
transparent, soft inks with excellent printability. These inks will have excellent color clarity.
• Finesse may be used as a base for metallic or speciality powders. In most cases, 10-15% specality powder to Finesse
will produce an excelent speciality ink. A few formulas have been included in the Genesis (GNS) formula section.
• The PC/Base Ratio Chart is used for calculating the recommended minimum and maximum amount of PC used with
Finesse. Generally 5-10% PC may be added to Finesse depending on the PC. We strongly recommend the use of this
chart when formulating new recipes. All pigments have different plasticizer levels and the published ratios will allow

FORMULATING TIPS FOR 10140 SOFT HAND CLEAR
• Soft Hand Clear may be used as a base and mixed with small amounts of pigment concentrates to product
transparent, soft inks with excellent printability. These inks will have excellent color clarity and print with minimal
buildup. Inks produced with Soft Hand Clear will be transparent and should only be printed on light colored
substrates. Preprint and test all substrates for desired properties.
