1. Should you reject a grossly bloody specimen from a female patient on her
1st day of menstrual period.
- Yes, because it can interfere the results of reagent pads.
2. How is the organic compound Nitrite form in the urine?
- Through the accumulation of bacteria like Enterobacteriaceae
in urinary bladder which have reductase enzyme that can convert
nitrate into nitrite in urine.
3. What are the possible reasons of a positive result of nitrite in a urine strip
test?
- Positive result of nitrite means the patient has urinary tract
infection due to bacteria, yeast (fungi), or parasite. One of the
probable reasons too is unhygienic sexual practice. Also, the E. coli
or Enterobacteriaceae can be one of the factors too.
4. What might be the possible reason of a negative result of a nitrite test
even though the patient in strongly diagnosed with having a UTI?
- I think the possible reasons of this were because the urine
specimen did not stay in urinary bladder for at least four hours, the
patient is not consuming vegetables, or patient taking antibiotics.
5. Where does the enzyme Leukocyte esterase came from?
- White blood cell (WBC)
6. What indicates a positive result of LEU in a urine strip?
- It indicates that the patient is suffering from infection or
urinary tract infection.
