Writing Section:

1 a) Imagine you are a member of RED CROSS Blood Bank Society, Bangalore. You have
been asked by the President of the society, Mr. Manish Nair to organize a Blood Donation
Camp. Write a notice in 50 words urging the people to come in large numbers for this noble
cause.

OR (3 marks)

1 b) The Image Club, Delhi, is organising a 15-day course in photography during the summer
holidays for students of class XI. Write a notice informing students of your school and asking
them to enrol. The charges are rupees 3000 per head. Students should have their own
cameras. You are the Head Boy/Head Girl.

2a) You are Ritika/Ritik, who has just passed out of class XII Humanities stream with an
aggregate of 95%. You are not clear about the available options and courses in colleges. You
have come across an advertisement on career counselling by eminent educationists. Write a
letter to them, asking for more details about vocational courses offered by the university.
(120-150 words).

2 b)You are Navneet of 65/NH Road, Bangalore. Recently you bought a home theatre
consisting of a huge LCD screen and SONY speakers and woofers with one year warranty
from Selectronics Plaza, Kiddingtown, Bangalore – 55. The huge LCD as well as the woofers
have been now found defective or substandard. Write a letter to the dealer giving details of
the nature of the defects (discrepancies) and seek replacement of the product. (120 – 150
words)

3a) As the Head of the Sports Department of your school, write a letter to the sales
manager of a company manufacturing sports equipment, placing an order for a number of
indoor as well as outdoor sports equipment needed by your school. (120 – 150 words)

3b. You are the owner of Sharma & Sons Book Store. You received an order for books from
the secretary, ABC Matriculation School, Marine Drive Mumbai. Write a reply to the letter
of order for books .

4 a)You are Eric/Emma of Holy Angels School, Shalimar Garden. Your school is hosting an
interschool Public Speaking Competition on the topic ‘The unmatched and incomparable
patriotism and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers must be an eye opener for every citizen”.
Being one of the contestants, write a speech in about 120 to 150 words validating the topic.

OR (5 marks)

4 b) "Our Good Earth", an environmental awareness magazine has launched a marathon


'Clean Your City' campaign. As an active participant write a speech to be read out in the
morning assembly urging students to participate in the campaign in 120-150 words.

5. Answer any four questions in 30-40 words. (4x2=8)

a. Do you think that the narrator Gordon Cook is a family man? Give reasons.
b. What is the meaning of the line "Both wry with the laboured ease of
the loss"?
c.What is the movement of the goldfinch compared to? What is the basis for
the comparison?
d. Why was Howard Carter’s investigation resented?
e. What did Kushwant Singh compare his grandmother to? What traits of her character is
revealed through the comparison?

6. Answer any two questions in 40-50 words. (2x2=4)

a. The narrator’s uncle ,Khosrov ,was known to be crazy fellow. Give a few instances of his
craziness.
b. Who is Mrs. Dorling? Do you justify her behaviour?
c. Mourad’s ‘Crazy streak’ makes the story an interesting one.Discuss.

7. Answer any one question in 120-150 words. (1x5=5)

a. The waves could only shatter their boat, not their spirit. Elucidate with examples from
“We’re not Afraid to Die... If We Can all Be Together”.

OR
b. The arrival of the goldfinch on the Laburnum top brings about a change in the
poem. How do you interpret this change? Is change good or bad in life?

8. Answer any one long question in 120-150 words. (1x5=5)


a. “Of all the things I had to forget, that would be the easiest”. What does the speaker mean
by ‘that’? What is its significance in the story?

OR

b. Do you think John Byro recognised his horse? Why did he not accuse the boys of stealing
his horse?
