Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

According to (Dan Blystone 2021), the tricycle that was first developed by Blanchard and
Maguire has undergone a limited number of modifications ever since it was first created. The
Filipino people's reliance on tricycles in their day-to-day life makes the need for modernisation
of these vehicles all the more pressing. In a manner analogous to the modernisation of the
jeepney, this not only involves the introduction of new vehicles but also a comprehensive
revision of the tricycle ecology, as well as improvements to transit efficiency, the comfort of
passengers, and the protection of riders. Pandemics occurred during the outbreak of The COVID
19, and blockades were placed all over the globe in an attempt to contain the virus and prevent
its further spread. Despite this, demand is slowly but surely making its way back into the market
as economies slowly but surely begin to recover. A first-in, first-out basis system is used by the
tricycle terminal. Every vehicle has to get in a queue in order to transport people. It is
conceivable for there to be an issue if there is a lack of passengers when there is an excess of
tricycles available. TraykSeeker will ensure that you have a secure ride in this situation. People
often go to their everyday destinations using the method of transportation known as
"commuting," which is also known as "commuting." Booking services for tricycles that are
accessible by smartphone have lately gained a lot of interest as a potential solution to the
problems of traffic congestion and environmental impact. The use of a tricycle as a mode of
transportation is deeply ingrained in the culture of Filipino commuting. Mobile app booking and
delivery systems are one approach to further integrate the tricycle into this aspect of Filipino
driving culture. These tricycles provide a service to commuters by delivering them to main
roadways and barangays while simultaneously using a minimal amount of gasoline.

The program will be able to assist the tricycle drivers in increasing their revenue. In order
to ensure the security of both the drivers and the passengers, a four-digit confirmation PIN will
be given to both sides in order to authenticate their identities.
TraykSeeker wants to develop this statement to have a safe ride to the barangays of
Lubao, Pampanga to help the passengers look for an affordable and safe ride, which will make it
more convenient for them. Technology has had a positive impact on people's lives from ancient
times to the present day by solving problems related to daily life and making it easier for you to

complete various tasks. TraykSeeker wants to develop this statement to have a safe ride to the
barangays
The purpose of this study is to develop a mobile application that will make it simpler for
residents of the community of Barangay Lubao to locate available modes of transportation.
Based on the findings of previous studies and surveys conducted by the researchers, it was
determined that residents were having trouble locating modes of transportation, particularly late
at night and during the middle of the day. As a result, the researchers came up with the concept
that residents should have a transportation application that will make it easier for them to be
accommodated simply by tapping the application,

Background of the Study

The mobile-based solution includes components that may be used by both passengers and
drivers of tricycles. The passenger is able to sign up for an account and log into the system. For
the purpose of account validation, it is necessary for them to fill in their information into the
appropriate forms, which may include their display name, mobile number, email, address,
birthdate, and gender. After logging in, a passenger is able to see and make changes to their
personal information, view transactions, book a trip, and learn more about the service. When
booking a ride, a passenger is able to input both the origin and destination location. After
inputting your location, Google Maps will immediately provide the route to take between the two
points on the map. After selecting "book now," the traveler will be prompted to provide the total
number of passengers and any other instructions for the driver before being given the option to
choose their driver. The amount of the fee is determined by an algorithm that takes into account
the number of passengers as well as the distance between the starting point and the destination. A
traveler may check a list of all of their transactions in my transaction or make a reservation
directly via the system.

A vehicle that provides private or shared transportation for a fee is referred to as a hire
vehicle. In contrast to public transportation, passengers of hire vehicles are generally free to
choose their points of origin or approximate points of destination. In addition, the driver of a hire
vehicle does not operate the vehicle themselves, as is the case with car rental and car sharing.
They could be accessible via a service that facilitates ridesharing. An application that enables

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

TRAYKSEEKER WEB BASED WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 3

users to make ride requests with the touch of a button is developed by Travis Kalanick and
Garrett Camp under the brand name Uber (Uber Technologies, 2016a). 2009 saw the beginning
of operations for what would later become Uber Technologies Inc., while the year 2010 saw the
introduction of the Uber iPhone application. (Arrington, 2010; Hoek, 2014). Uber Technologies
is marketing itself as a digital firm with the goal of "offering people what they want when they
want it, and regardless of whether or whether it is a ride, a meal, or anything else." lunch or a
parcel" (Uber Technologies, 2016a).

The application of the idea of bringing together supply and demand for digital delivery
and transportation services offered by Uber has grown to 503 cities in 73 different countries. It
offers a wide range of transportation services, all of which are based on the same information
and communications technology (ICT) platform, but differ in terms of quality, pricing, vehicle
size, and the user groups who are meant to make use of them (Uber Technologies, 2016b). The
information and communications technology platform that Uber uses enables additional
payment, booking, and rating options (Meelen & Frenken, 2015). Uber asserts that it utilizes the
characteristics in order to guarantee the quality and safety of its services, but existing taxi rules,
according to Uber, are inadequate (Rechtspraak.nl, 2014; Rienstra et al., 2015). The ICT
platform also makes it possible to use big data in practical ways, such as yield management,
which modifies prices according to supply and demand at certain times and places (The
Economist, 2012).

Objectives of the Study

The key goals of this study are to design and develop an application entitled Tricycle
Booking Mobile APP System for Barangay Lubao, Pampanga that would act as a shared network
between tricycle drivers and passengers to improve the ride experience.

General Objectives

The main objective of the study is to design and develop web based mobile application
that will lessen the hassle of calling tricycles in Barangay Lubao Pampanga.

Specific objectives

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

TRAYKSEEKER WEB BASED WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 4

1. To create a mobile-based system that will help the passengers to book for a tricycle ride
efficiently.
2. To create a mobile-based system that enables the tricycle drivers to accept passengers.
3. To develop a web-based system that can manage modules such as driver management,
passenger management, fare management, staff management, transactions/bookings,
account security, user feedback and risk disaster notification.
4. To implement a notification system that can alert the passenger and driver on the risks or
disasters in the area.

Scope and Limitation

The web-based system has modules that allow admin to control the information in the
system. One example of such a module is the driver module, which may handle the drivers who
are awaiting approval, authorized, denied, or blacklisted. module for managing and seeing
passengers who have registered with the system; called the passenger module. A fare module
that has the capability of managing the system's fare rate. Both the Transaction/Booking module
and the Staff module allow users to register and manage staff or co-administrators inside the
system. The Transaction/Booking module also allows users to browse a list of tricycle bookings
within the system. Account Security Module is a kind of software that can handle a user's login
credentials as well as their display picture. A user feedback module that enables the viewer to
observe the feedbacks provided by passengers to drivers. Danger/Catastrophe Notice Module is a
module that may add an alert notification of a risk or disaster to the system for both the
passenger and the driver.

The mobile-based solution includes components that may be used by both passengers and
drivers of tricycles. The traveler may sign up for an account and log into the system. In order for
the account to be validated, it is necessary for them to submit their information into the
appropriate forms. These fields may include their display name, mobile number, email, address,
birthdate, and gender. Passengers are able to access and change their profile information, book
rides, view transactions, and view information about the application after they have successfully
logged in. When using book ride, passengers have the option of entering their starting and ending
locations. Upon inputting, the Google Map will immediately display the direction in which the

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

TRAYKSEEKER WEB BASED WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 5

sites are located between themselves. After selecting "book now," the traveler will be asked to
provide the total number of passengers and any further instructions for the driver before being
given the option to choose their driver. The amount of the fee is determined by an algorithm that
takes into account the number of passengers as well as the distance between the starting point
and the destination. The traveler is able to examine a list of all of their previous transactions or
bookings in the system via my transaction. The drivers are able to register their vehicles and log
in using the system. During registration, drivers are required to provide details on the make and
model of their vehicles. The driver is also required to supply a 1x1 photo of themselves, as well
as a valid ID photo, driver's license photo, OR/CR photo, Mayor's Permit photo, and password.
The validation procedure necessitates having access to the registered information. The driver is
able to browse and make changes to their profile, as well as view their most recent trips and
accept passengers.

The suggested system has several limitations that the system itself won't be able to cover.
Only the barangays in Lubao, Pampanga will be given access to the web- and android-based
system when it is finally put into place. The only people who can use the system will be the
people who are riding on tricycles and their drivers. There is no provision for making payments
electronically inside the system; the drivers will only take cash or checks as payment. Offline
usage of the system is not possible.

Significance of the Study

The significance of this study explains why it is needed and justifies its importance and

impact, as well as its contribution to knowledge and how it will be a benefit to others.

METHODOLOGY

Research design is the process that involves the overall assumptions of the thesis and the
method of data collection and analysis. The choice of research design is dependent on the
objectives of the research to provide an answer or solution to the research question or problem.

Type of Research

Descriptive Research

This descriptive type of research frequently aims to describe characteristics of populations

dependent on information gathered from tests; it regularly requires the utilization of a likelihood
inspecting method, like essential arbitrary examining. Information derived from various
explorations can be subjective or quantitative, and quantitative information introductions are
frequently limited to recurrence disseminations and rundown measurements.Like midpoints, it is
utilized to acquire data concerning the current status of the marvels to depict "what exists"
concerning variables or conditions in a situation. The purpose of descriptive studies is to observe,
describe, and document the proponents' uses of descriptive research in this research to know the
implications of the findings. This methodology will support the researchers in assessing the
performance of the current user manual budgeting system to trace the procedures and compare
them to the proposed systems' designs and use this as a guide in developing the plan.

Through these, the proponents had an overview of what the proposed system should be and the
way to present the data descriptively. They pictured the present phenomena under investigation
to have a picture of the feasibility of the study.

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

TRAYKSEEKER WEB BASED WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 10

Research Design
The researchers chose a quantitative study because it helps researchers gain or get information
and justification needed to fully understand the research in connection to the development of the
"TraykSeeker Web Based with Mobile App" system.

ISO 25010

The target users all considered the suggested system's reliability, functional suitability, usability,
security, maintainability, performance efficiency, portability, and compatibility to determine
whether end-users accepted it.

When determining the quality of a software product or system, the quality model defines which
characteristics would be considered. A system's rate was determined by how well it met the
implicit needs of its many users. It was possible to reflect the following qualities of product
quality: users' requests (Performance, Functionality, Maintainability, Security, etc.).

Lastly, ISO-25010 was a global standard for evaluating software quality by creating user
interfaces and software functionality. As a result, the system's quality was well-defined based on
these characteristics.

System Development Methodology: Design

The TraykSeeker is developed by the researchers using Agile Development Methodology. Agile
is used for delivering quality software products by dividing the project tasks into both
manageable and flexible enough portions, which allows the proponents to implement changes in
a short time. This methodology works in iterations, which means that each completed task will
be better than the last one and previous mistakes will not be repeated. Agile also encourages an
open culture of idea exchange and collaboration, which allows the proponents to learn from
shared experiences and improve together.

Figure 2 System development methodology design of the proposed system

Requirements Phase

In this phase, proponents gather initial requirements and can start designing the proposed system.
The proponent creates the initial documentation that will list all initial requirements needed in
developing the proposed system. In this phase, the proponent has to gather sufficient information
on the tricycle booking system and conduct interviews in tricycle terminals in Lubao, Pampanga.
Also, the people who want to start a project have to figure out what conflicts are shown by the
system and what steps need to be taken to finish the project.

Design Phase

This phase shows the design of the system based on the gathered data and the studied
information in the analysis phase. A database design and a data structure design are required.

Software Design

The proponent introduces the requirements created during the previous stage. The proponents
will create a prototype of the project, the diagrams and system designs, and propose the tools
needed to achieve the best results. The proponent defines the programming languages,
frameworks, and libraries that the proposed system is going to use. The proponents will use
ASP.NET for the back-end, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and Bootstrap. They will also use MySQL
as a database server.

UI/UX Design

The proponents will create a rough mock-up of the UI. The user interface and user experience
are the most important. Further iterations are spent refining the initial design and/or reworking it
to suit the new features.

Developing Phase

This phase is about writing code and converting design documentation into the actual software
within the software development process. The proponents used programming languages and
tools for developing the TraykSeeker. The proponents used MySQL for the database server and
Android Studio for mobile development. For the languages, the proponents used ASP.NET, CSS,
HTML, JavaScript, Bootstrap Java, and XML.

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

TRAYKSEEKER WEB BASED WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 12

Testing Phase

This phase is spent on making sure that the proposed system is bug-free and compatible with
everything else that the proponents have written before. During the further iterations of this
SDLC stage, the testing becomes more involved and accounts not only for unit testing,
integration testing, performance testing, but also for system testing, user acceptance testing, etc.
The people who want to use the proposed system will test the software to fix bugs and make the
system better.

Unit Testing

Unit Test Plans are made during the module configuration stage. These Unit Test Plans are
executed to kill bugs at the code or unit level.

The proponents aim to find defects and bugs inside the system to check whether the application
acts true to form and as indicated by what was recorded in the requirement analysis phase. The
cycle will be repeated until all requirements have been tested, all the bugs and deserts have been
fixed, and the product is prepared to be deployed.

Integration Testing

After the completion of unit testing, integration testing is performed. In incorporation testing, the
modules are coordinated, and the system is tried. Integration testing is performed on the
architecture configuration stage. This test confirms the correspondence of modules among
themselves.

The proponent tested the individual software components and units of code to verify the
interaction between various software components and detect interface defects. After integration
testing has been performed on the features, proponents proceed to system testing.

System Testing

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

TRAYKSEEKER WEB BASED WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 13

System testing tested the complete application with its usefulness, bug reliance, and
correspondence. It tries the practical and non-useful prerequisites of the created application.

The proponents and tester tested the system's functionality to check whether it meets the
specified requirements and performed various tests to check the progression.

Performance Testing

The proponent tested the focus on the software's runtime performance in relevance to the whole
system.

User Acceptance Testing

UAT is played in a client climate that looks like the creation climate. UAT confirms that the
conveyed system meets the client's prerequisites and that the system is prepared for use in the
real world.

The proponents tested it on actual users to see if it could carry out the required requirements
designed to address real-world situations. proponent’s adherence to customer information and its
aim to validate changes that were made against original requirements.

Deployment Phase

The proposed system will be set up and given to the client, either for a demo or for real
use.Further iterations update the already installed system, introducing new features and resolving
bugs.

Research Instrument

Interview

The researchers conducted an interview at the TODA in Lubao, Pampanga. They have set up an
interview to get the information they need to make the proposed system work.

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

TRAYKSEEKER WEB BASED WITH MOBILE APPLICATION 14

Observation

The researchers made some observations on different TODAs in their barangay. They conduct
observations on how current tricycle booking processes work and how to apply a computer
system to make the tricycle booking system more efficient and effective in terms of managing
the business enterprise. By observation, the proponents gain insight and examples of modern
bookkeeping in the real world.

Online Research

The researchers used the Internet for data gathering; they did research on how the booking
system works and its processes. The Internet plays a major part in the development process of
the system; they utilize the available online resources on web development and search for online
references to the review of related literature and studies.

Consultation

The researchers needed to consult IT experts who have better knowledge of web development.

A Survey Questionnaire

A set of questionnaires is a research instrument wherein a progression of questions and different

prompts are ready to gather data from respondents.

requires specification and analysis.

The Entity-Relationship Diagram of the Proposed System

An Entity-relationship Diagram (ERD) is information displaying that shows a graphical portrayal

of articles or ideas inside a data system or association and their relationship to each other. ERDs
outline the coherent design of data sets.
