CABINET APPROVALS
Cabinet Approval on June 01, 2022
The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has approved the following
proposals:
i. Expanding the mandate of Government e Marketplace – Special Purpose Vehicle (GeM – SPV) to allow
procurement by Cooperatives as Buyers.
ii. Relaxation in educational qualification for the post of Constable to recruit native tribal youth as
Constables in CRPF through recruitment rally from the interior areas of Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma
districts of Chhattisgarh State.
✓ The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has developed an IT (Information Technology) module for
the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to integrate competent financial authorities and Internal Financial
Advisers (IFA) for online e-concurrence and approval of procurement proposals on the GeM

Cabinet Committee on Security Approved New Scheme ‘Agnipath’ for Soldier Recruitment
Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the new scheme called “Agneepath” (Agnipath) for
recruitment of soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air Force. This aims to reduce the increasing salary and
pensions. This is a transformative initiative which will provide a youthful profile to the Indian Armed
Forces.
✓ Under this new scheme, the soldiers will be initially inducted for a period of 4 years. On
completion of the service period, the soldiers will receive a tax-free service fund package of ~Rs.
11.71 lakh as Seva Nidhi Package.
✓ The Agneepath recruitment scheme will provide an opportunity for the Indian youngsters to serve
in the Indian Armed forces as “Agniveer”. (The soldiers recruited under this scheme will be
called Agniveer.)

MCA notifies National Financial Reporting Authority Amendment Rules 2022
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has amended the National Financial Reporting Authority
(NFRA) Rules 2018 with ‘NFRA Amendment Rules 2022’ w.e.f. June 17, 2022, by exercising the powers
conferred by sub-sections (2) and (4) of section 132, sub-section (1) of section 139 and sub-section (1)
of section 469 of the Companies Act, 2013 (18 of 2013).
✓ This move rationalizes the penalty provision for certain contraventions aimed at encouraging
compliance.
The non-compliance will attract penalty of Rs 5,000 and where the contravention is a continuing one, a
further fine of Rs 500 for everyday during the period of contravention. Click Here for Official

ECI Appoints Cricketer Yash Dhull As State Icon for NCT of Delhi
Election commission of India (ECI) has appointed Indian cricketer Yash Dhull, as the ECI State Icon for
National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi to encourage the youngsters of Delhi.
✓ As the ECI State Icon Yash Dhull will educate and motivate the youngsters to enrol themselves in
the electoral roll. He will also participate in college-level voter awareness events.
✓ Yash Dhull was the captain of the 2022 International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Under 19 World
Cup-winning Team. He made his first-class cricket debut for the Delhi Cricket Team in the 2021-22
Ranji Trophy.
Delhi & UNDP set up Oxygen plant to support 750 beds in GB Pant Hospital
The government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi collaborated with the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) to set up an oxygen generation plant at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital
to increase the oxygen supply capabilities of the hospital. The oxygen plant can cater to 750 beds in the
hospital, including those supported by ventilators.
✓ The plant utilises Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology to produce up to 1,050 litres of
oxygen per minute.
In partnership with the state governments, UNDP has set up twelve oxygen generation plants across
India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, NCT of Delhi, and Tripura.
Haryana
Haryana CM Launches Pilot Project to Conserve Water
Haryana Chief Minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar launched a pilot project the ‘Sujal’ initiative for
Panchkula to monitor the water supply and control its flow in the region.
Under the initiative, a device will be installed in every drinking water metre, tube well and connections
of Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) that will store the water usage data online in a single
dashboard and thus it is easy to estimate the flow of water in every house
✓ The free Group Personal Insurance Cover is extended to all the permanent employees of J&K
Government in addition to the offers that they are entitled to on behalf of Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) between J&K Bank and J&K Government.
✓ J&K banks also launched the Phone Pe Loan facility for government employees. It has contracted
with Oriental Insurance Company for extending the insurance cover.

Karnataka
Vandita Sharma Appointed as Karnataka’s 39th Chief Secretary
The Government of Karnataka has appointed Vandita Sharma, a 1986-batch IAS officer, as the 39th
Chief Secretary (CS) of Karnataka. She took over as the new CS from incumbent P Ravi Kumar on 31st
May 2022. She will hold the office till November 2023.
✓ She is currently serving as the additional chief secretary-cum-development commissioner,
Government of Karnataka.
Vandita Sharma, hailing from Punjab, is the 4th woman to be appointed as the CS of Karnataka after
Theresa Bhattacharya, Malati Das and K Ratna Prabha.
Maharashtra
Maharashtra gets 12 New Conservation Reserves & 3 Wildlife Sanctuaries: 18th State Wildlife
Board meeting
The 18th Maharashtra State Board for Wildlife (MSBWL) meeting chaired by Chief Minister (CM) of
Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, approved 12 new conservation reserves covering an area of
~692.74 square (sq) kilometres (Km) and 3 wildlife sanctuaries covering an area of ~ 303 sq km.
✓ The 3 Wildlife Sanctuaries of Maharashtra are, the extension of the Lonar wildlife
sanctuary (0.8694 sq km), Kolamarka in Gadchiroli (180.72 sq km) and Muktai Bhawani in
Jalgaon (122.74 sq km).

Punjab
Punjab Budget 2022: Punjab FM presents Rs 1,55,859.78-crore budget; AAP govt’s first budget
On 27th June 2022, Punjab Finance Minister (FM) Harpal Singh Cheema presented Rs 1,55,859.78-
crore budget in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, a growth of 14.2% from the previous fiscal. The Fiscal deficit
of Punjab stands at 3.78% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for the fiscal year.
✓ This is the first budget of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by the Chief Minister (CM)
Bhagwant Mann. No new taxes have been announced in the Punjab Budget.
✓ The budget’s Revenue Expenditure for the fiscal is proposed at Rs 107932 crore (up 5.35% year-
on-year) of which Rs 66440 crore (61.56%) is the committed expenditure.
Punjab’s Capital Expenditure for the fiscal is proposed at Rs 10981 crore, a growth of 8.95% over the
previous year. During 2011-12 to 2021-22, capital expenditure ranged between 0.41% and 1.43% of

Punjab govt launches e-stamping facility, abolishes physical stamp papers of all denominations
The Punjab Government has launched e-stamping facility by abolishing the physical stamp papers, in
order to bring efficiency and check the pilferage of state revenue.
✓ The facility had been started with the help of National e-Governance Services Limited
(NeSL) and can be availed in banks.
The e-stamping facility is now available for all denominations starting from Rs.1, which was earlier
applicable only to a value above Rs 20,000.
Rajasthan
Rajasthan Approves New Guidelines for Indira Gandhi Shahari Rozgar Yojana Implementation
Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister (CM) of Rajasthan, has approved the new guidelines for the
implementation of “Indira Gandhi Shahari Rozgar Yojana”, which was announced by the CM in the
2022-23 budget to provide employment in urban areas on the lines of the Mahatma Gandhi National
Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
✓ Under the new urban employment scheme, families residing in urban areas will get 100 days of
employment per year. The Rajasthan govt will spend around Rs 800 crore per year on this
scheme.
✓ Under these new guidelines, People of the age group 18 to 60 years residing in the local body area
will be registered on the basis of Jan Aadhaar card.
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot Introduced Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in the State for
Sportspersons
Rajasthan Chief Minister (CM) Ashok Gehlot announced that the state government is set to
introduce the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award to the State’s sportspersons. He made the
announcement while addressing the inauguration and player award ceremony at Sawai Mansingh
Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
✓ He inaugurated Rajasthan High-Performance Sports and Rehabilitation Centre, Renovated
Synthetic Hockey Astro Turf and Badminton Indoor Hall, Olympic and also awarded Para Olympic
medalists, Asian Games-2022 and Commonwealth Games-2022 players.
He also informed that Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympics will commence on 29th August 2022 in which more
than 27 lakh players of all ages can participate. He also released the torch of the Rural Olympic during
the event.
Special Health Care Abhiyan ‘Anchal ‘launched for pregnant women in Rajasthan’s Karauli
A special health care Abhiyan “Anchal” for pregnant women was launched in the Karauli district of
Rajasthan. This unique scheme, initiated by Ankit Kumar Singh IAS, District Collector & District
Magistrate, Karauli, Rajasthan, would benefit more than 13 thousand women.
Aim: To ensure the availability of all medical aid to pregnant women at the pre- and post-natal stage to
reduce maternal and infant mortality.
Sikkim
Sikkim Declared Blue Duke as state Butterfly
On the occasion of World Environment Day (5th June 2022), the government of Sikkim declared the
Blue Duke (scientific name: Bassarona durga durga), a species of nymphalid butterfly found in the
Himalayas, as the State Butterfly of Sikkim.
✓ Blue duke was declared as the State Butterfly based on an online poll in which it secured 57% of
the votes and Krishna Peacock (Papilio krishna) secured the 2nd position in the poll with 43% of
the votes.
✓ Blue Duke, discovered in the state in 1858, falls in Schedule 2 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972
and is a highly protected butterfly species in the Himalayas. It is found at an altitude below 1500
metres in the Himalayas.
The idea of the state butterfly was proposed by Butterfly enthusiast Nosang M Limboo, also known as
the Butterfly Man of Sikkim.
Tamil Nadu
TN CM Stalin Inaugurated Tamil Nadu Advanced Manufacturing Conclave 2022
On June 24, 2022, MK Stalin, the Chief Minister (CM) of Tamil Nadu (TN), launched the following
initiatives during the Tamil Nadu Advanced Manufacturing Conclave 2022 at Taramani, Chennai,
TN, to help industry adopt new technology and remain competitive.
✓ Tamil Nadu Centre of Excellence in Advance Manufacturing (TANCAM), India’s first of its kind
Center of Excellence (CoE), was inaugurated in the TIDEL Park at Taramani in Chennai, Tamil
Nadu.
✓ Two innovation centres were inaugurated at the SIPCOT Industrial Parks in Hosur and
Sriperumbudur.
The foundation stone was laid for the Neo-TIDEL Parks in Tiruppur and Villupuram districts of TN,

TN CM M.K. Stalin Flags Off Luxury Tourism Cruise Ship “Empress” In Chennai Port
Tamil Nadu (TN) Chief Minister (CM) Muthuvel Karunanidhi (M.K.) Stalin flagged off the luxury tourism
cruise ship “Empress” from Chennai port, Tamil Nadu. The cruise is being operated by Cordelia Cruises.
✓ This is the first luxury cruise liner to be operated from Tamil Nadu.
✓ The ship will go to the high seas from chennai port and will also anchor at Pondicherry and
Visakhapatnam harbours.
Telangana
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan takes oath as HC Chief Justice of Telangana
On 28th June 2022, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court in a
ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office to him.
✓ He succeeded Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, who was transferred to the Delhi High Court.
✓ Previously, Justice Bhuyan took oath as judge of Telangana High Court in October, 2021.
He is also the Executive Chairman of Telangana State Legal Services Authority.
Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand Government Proposes Rs 65,571.49 Crore Budget
Prem Chand Aggrawal, the Finance Minister of Uttarakhand, has presented Uttarakhand’s Rs 65,571.49
crore budget for the financial year 2022-23 (FY23) in the ongoing budget session of the state Legislative
Assembly in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
✓ Budget Highlights: Revenue Expenditure – Rs. 49,013.31 crore; Capital Expenditure – Rs.
16,558.18 crore; Total estimated receipts for FY23 – Rs. 63,774.55 crore.
✓ The proposed budget includes the highest allocations for pension payments to the elderly, widows
with no one to rely on, abandoned women, differently-abled, economically weak farmers, and
schemes aimed at improving gender ratios and providing health insurance coverage to all.

✓ Under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan Yojana (PM-KUSUM)
scheme of Central Government, the farmers will be given 30% subsidy each by centre and state to
install solar pumps.
In North-Eastern States, Sikkim, J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Lakshadweep and A&N Islands, CFA of
50%, State Government subsidy 30%, Remaining 20% by the farmer.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launches Policy & Portal of e-auction for Commercial
earning, NFR Contracts
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Railways launched e-auction for commercial earning, and
Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) contracts, in Rail Bhavan, New Delhi (Delhi).
✓ This launch was made to bring Commercial Earning and NFR contracts under the ambit of
electronic auction through Indian Railway e-Procurement System (IREPS), in line with
prevailing e-auction of scrap sale.
✓ The e-auction will be conducted online through the ‘E-Auction Leasing’ module of
IREPS- www.ireps.gov.in.
A pilot for the project was launched in 11 divisions of nine railway zones. A total of 80 contracts of a

PYSE launched India’s First & Largest Fractionally Owned Solar Power Plant in Karnataka
Pyse Fintech Pvt. Ltd. (PYSE), an investment platform, has launched India’s first and
largest fractionally-owned solar power plant in Karnataka. The platform allows retail investors to
invest in sustainable projects that create social and environmental impacts from a ticket size as low as
Rs 5,000.
✓ The plant is set to be commissioned by the end of July 2022 and is designed to offset 65 lakh kgs of
carbon footprint every year for the next 25 years.
✓ It is a Rs 26 crore solar power project with an average investor share of Rs 25,000.

PADMA: Automated Pay & Allowances Module for Indian Coast Guard Launched
On June 28, 2022, Rajnish Kumar, Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), Ministry of Defence
(MoD) has inaugurated the Pay Roll Automation for Disbursement of Monthly
Allowances (PADMA), an automated Pay & Allowances module for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
✓ This module has been developed under the aegis of Defense Accounts Department (DAD) and
will be operated by Pay Accounts Office Coast Guard, Noida (Uttar Pradesh).
✓ PADMA is an automated platform or Centralized Pay System (CPS). CPS in India are Real Time
Gross Settlement (RTGS) and National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) systems, both owned and
operated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Launches National Aero Sports Policy
2022
The National Air Sports Policy 2022 (NASP 2022) was launched by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M.
Scindia, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), with the aim of optimizing India’s potential in the field of air
sports. This is India’s First National Air sports Policy.
✓ By 2030, the NASP 2022 aims to make India one of the top sports nations in the world by
providing a safe, affordable, accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable air sports ecosystem. The policy
has the potential to be an income generator worth Rs. 8,000–10,000 crores.
✓ Air sports refer to a variety of sports that involve the use of air as a medium. It includes activities
such as air racing, aerobatics, aero modelling, hang gliding, paragliding, paramotoring, and
skydiving, etc.,

Tourism Ministry launched National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism and Responsible
Traveller Campaign
The Ministry of Tourism has launched the National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism and
Responsible Traveller Campaign at the National Summit on Developing Sustainable and Responsible
Tourist Destinations held in New Delhi, Delhi. The Scheme has been revamped as Swadesh Darshan 2.0.
The summit was organised by the Tourism Ministry in partnership with the United Nations
Environment Program (UNEP) and Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI).
NSDC & MoHUA Launches NIPUN for Skill Training of Construction Workers
Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri launched project NIPUN (National
Initiative for Promoting Upskilling of Nirman workers), an initiative of Ministry of Housing and Urban
Affairs (MoHUA) under the flagship scheme of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban
Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).
✓ It aims to train more than one lakh construction workers through fresh skilling and upskilling
programmes and provide them with opportunities in foreign countries.
National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the nodal agency under the Ministry of Skill
Development & Entrepreneurship, is responsible for the overall execution of the training, monitoring

PM Modi Inaugurates India’s Biggest Drone Festival Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022 in New Delhi
On May 27, 2022, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s biggest Drone
Festival, Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, Delhi. The two-day Bharat
Drone Mahotsav 2022 took place on May 27–28, 2022.
✓ For the first time in India’s postal history, the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communication,
has successfully conducted a pilot project to carry mail using drone technology in Gujarat’s Kutch
district.
✓ At the Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022 in New Delhi, ePlane Company, an aviation and aerospace
component manufacturing company, displayed a static prototype of the ‘e200’ — a two-seater —
one seat for the pilot and one passenger — electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL). The
ePlane company is headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and its e200 is regarded as India’s first

PM Narendra Modi inaugurates World’s 1st Nano Urea plant by IFFCO at Kalol, Gujarat
The Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi inaugurated the world’s first nano urea liquid plant by
Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) at Kalol, Gujarat. This facility was dedicated to
the nation during a ceremony held at the Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
✓ India has now become the first country globally to start commercial production of Nano Urea.
India is the second largest consumer of urea across the world where China stands first. India is the
third largest producer of urea.
IFFCO has set up additional manufacturing facilities for the production of nano fertilisers at its Aonla,
Phulpur, Kalol (Expansion), Bengaluru, Paradeep, Kandla, Deoghar and Guwahati units for production
of nano urea, nano DAP (Diammonium phosphate) and nano micronutrients at different locations.
PM Narendra Modi Inaugurated Iconic Week Celebrations of FinMin & MCA- June 6-12, 2022
As a part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)’, an Iconic Week Celebrations of the Ministry of
Finance (FinMin) and Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) were held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi,
Delhi. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.It was held under the theme of
“Transforming Lives”.
✓ The PM Narendra Modi launched National portal for credit linked government schemes – Jan
Samarth Portal, a first of its kind platform to directly connect beneficiaries to lenders
✓ PM also launched a special series of coins of Re 1, Rs 2, 5, 10 and 20 denominations having AKAM
design. They are not commemorative coins and will be part of circulation.
✓ Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched below events:-
• Special window facility for senior citizens above 75 years seeking refund from the Investor
Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA).
• Launched NETRA (New e-Tracking and Remote Administration) portal, and Mobile Application
for IDEAS scheme.
• Launched the Single Nodal Agency (SNA) Dashboard of PFMS to ensure effective utilization of
technology in public finance.

book titled Pratidhwani.
✓ Dr Jitendra Singh, Ministry MoST released Aarohan, a Coffee Table Book.

PM Modi Inaugurates Biotech Startup Expo- 2022 in New Delhi; Launched Biotech products &
e-Portal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Biotech Startup Expo – 2022 at Pragati Maidan, New
Delhi, Delhi. It is a 2-day event held on 9th & 10th June 2022, organised by the Department of
Biotechnology and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
✓ The expo is a part of the celebration of the completion of 10 years of the establishment of BIRAC
and held under the theme “Biotech Startup Innovations: Towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat”.
✓ PM Modi also launched the e-portal of 750 biotech products along with the biotech products
developed during the 75th year of Independence of India and a coffee book of 75 women biotech
entrepreneurs.

PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates & lays Foundation Stones of Development Projects Worth ∼Rs

On June 17-18, 2022, the Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi visited Gujarat to inaugurate the

India’s 1st Government MLD Desalination Plant for Industrial Use inaugurated in Gujarat
India’s first government desalination plant only for industrial use was inaugurated at Dahej in Bharuch
,Gujarat by the Chief Minister (CM) of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel. It was set up with an outlay of ~Rs
881.19 crore. Its construction work was awarded to the joint venture company of Larsen &
Toubro and Tecton.
✓ Dahej Desal Foundation, has been constituted by the Gujarat Industrial Development
Corporation (GIDC.
✓ The daily requirement of water for industries in Dahej is around 200 MLD (Million Per Day), which
is currently fetched from the Narmada River.
Of the total four PCPIR (petroleum, chemicals and petrochemicals investment regions) in the country,
Dahej PCPIR is the only functional one.

Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr.Jitendra Singh inaugurated the India’s First Lavender

✓ Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM)

✓ CSIR-Aroma Mission, under the Ministry of Science & Technology, aims to develop aroma related

SC Bans Mining & Permanent Structures within 1-km radius of National Parks, Wildlife
Sanctuaries
The Bench of Justice L Nageswara Rao, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai (BR Gavai) and Justice
Aniruddha Bose in the Supreme Court of India (SC) has ordered that mining and construction of new
permanent structures within extended buffer zone, which is an Ecologically Sensitive Zone (ESZ) of 1-
kilometre(km) radius of a national wildlife sanctuary or national park will not be permitted.
✓ The activities already being undertaken within 1 km or ESZ does not come under the ambit of
prohibited activities as per the 9th February 2011 Guidelines.
✓ These activities may continue with the permission of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.
The people responsible for these activities should get permission within a period of 6 months.
For Jamwa Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Rajasthan, ESZ shall be 500 metres so far as subsisting
activities are concerned.
✓ The vaccine is developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)- National Research
Centre on Equines (NRCE) (Hisar, Haryana), is safe for dogs, lions, leopards, mice and rabbits.
✓ He also launched ‘CAN-CoV-2 ELISA kit’, a sensitive and specific nucleocapsid protein-based
indirect (Enzyme-Linked Immunoassay) ELISA kit, for antibody detection against SARS-CoV-2 in

Himachal Pradesh: The 1st Indian State to Approve Policy for Drones
The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh (HP) Jai Ram Thakur has approved the ‘Himachal
Pradesh Drone Policy 2022’, making HP the first state in India to approve drone policy and public
use of drones.
✓ The policy visions to create drone ecosystem built upon the foundation of Governance and
Reforms Using Drones (GARUD).
✓ It aims to propagate the use of drone-enabled technology in different sectors such as defence,
transport, health, agriculture and more.
Delhi Airport Becomes India’s 1st to Run Entirely on Hydro and Solar Energy
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport becomes the 1st airport in India that switched to hydro
and solar power for its consumption needs from 1st June 2022, to run entirely on a combination of
these forms of green energy. The majority of the consumption is hydro dependent.
This reduces energy emissions by 2 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide per year which would satisfy the
airport’s goal to achieve the ‘Net Zero Carbon Emissions Airport’ target by 2030.
Central Govt approves 8.1% EPF Interest Rate for 2021-22; Lowest since 1977-78
The Central Government has officially approved 8.1% rate of interest on Employees’ Provident Fund
(EPF) deposits for 2021-22, which is down by 40 basis points from 8.5% provided in 2020-21. This new
interest rate is the lowest since 1977-78(over four-decade low), when it stood at 8%.
✓ This approval has been made concurrently by the Ministry of Labour and
Employment (MoL&E), and the Ministry of Finance.
✓ The EPFO invests 85% of its annual accruals in debt instruments, including government securities
and bonds, and 15% in equity through ETFs (Exchange-Traded Fund). The earnings from both
debt and equity are used to calculate the interest payment.

✓ The Drone Rules, 2021 were notified on August 25, 2021, and the Certification Scheme for

on January 26, 2022.

DAC Chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Approves Military Modernization Projects
Worth Rs 76,390 Crore
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence
(MoD), has granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for Armed Forces Capital Acquisition Proposals
worth Rs 76,390 crore.
✓ For the Indian Navy, the DAC accorded AoN for procurement of Next Generation Corvettes (NGC)
for around Rs 36,000 crore.
✓ For the Indian Army, DAC issued new AoNs to procure Rough Terrain Fork Lift Trucks (RTFLTs),
Bridge Laying Tanks (BLTs), Wheeled Armoured Fighting Vehicles (Wh AFVs) with Anti-Tank
Guided Missiles (ATGMs), and Weapon Locating Radars (WLRs) from domestic sources.
For the Indian Air Force, the DAC granted AoNs to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)for the
production of Dornier-228 reconnaissance aircraft and Sukhoi-30 Mark (MK) I aero-engines.
MoHFW commenced the 2 months long “Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0”
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has commenced the 2 month
long “Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0” to accelerate the pace and coverage of COVID19 vaccination
across all eligible age groups across States and Union territories (UTs) of India. ‘Har Ghar Dastak 2.0’
will be implemented from 1st June 2022 to 31st July 2022.
Objective: To vaccinate and cover the eligible population groups for 1st, 2nd and precaution doses
through door-to-door campaigns.
✓ This focus on improving sub-optimal coverage of persons aged ≥ 60years with precaution dose,
slower speed of coverage in the 12-14 years cohort by focussed campaigns for old age homes,
schools/colleges including out-of-school children, prisons, brick kilns and others.
PMBI Crossed Rs 100 Crore Sales in May 2022 for 1st Time; Highest Ever Monthly Sales
Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the implementing agency of Pradhan
Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), has crossed a sales turnover of Rs 100 crores in May
2022(for the first time).
✓ This is the highest ever monthly sales record by PMBI. This has in turn saved around Rs 600 crores
for Indian citizens. More than Rs. 15,000 Crore have been saved by the general public under this
Pariyojana in the last 5 years. In May 2021, during the COVID-19 second wave period, the total
sales were Rs. 83.77 crore.
✓ The Government of India has targeted to increase the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya
Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) to 10000 by March 2024. As of May 2022, the number of PMBJKs
stands at 8735 across 739 districts across India.
Nitin Gadkari Targets to Construct 60 Km of Highway Per Day; NHAI sets new Guinness World
Record
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the target of
constructing 60 kilometres of highway per day.
✓ Due to COVID-19 pandemic and logistics cost the construction was slowed down to 28.64 km a day
in 2021-22 by India’s national highway construction.
✓ On 8th June 2022, NHAI created a new Guinness world record in laying 75 km, in under 5
days, of bituminous concrete in a single lane on NH53 between Amravati to Akola
Districts in 105 hours and 33 minutes.
GoI Approves New Guidelines for Scheme to Promote MSMEs in NER And Sikkim
the Government of India (GoI) has approved new guidelines of Central Sector Scheme (CSS) ‘Promotion
of MSMEs in North Eastern Region and Sikkim’ which will be implemented during 15th Finance
Commission Cycle (2021-22 to 2025-26).
✓ The scheme envisages providing financial support for enhancing the productivity and
competitiveness as well as capacity building of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in
the North Eastern Region (NER) and Sikkim.
✓ Under this, maximum financial support to state governments for setting up new and modernizing
existing Mini Technology Centres has been increased from Rs 10 crore to Rs 13.50 crore as 90%
of the project cost. The projects with total project cost more than Rs. 15.00 crore, will also be
considered.
Central Government financial assistance will be provided for the development of new and existing
Industrial Estates and Flatted Factory Complexes. The financial assistance of the Government will be
90%.
Delhi Customs Inaugurates Project ‘NIGAH’ at ICD Garhi Harsaru, Gurugram, Haryana
Surjit Bhujabal, Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs Zone, inaugurated the Project ‘NIGAH’ at Inland
Container Depot (ICD) Garhi Harsaru, Gurugram, Haryana. Project ‘NIGAH’ is an initiative to track
containers by using ICTM (ICD Container Tracking Module) which will enable better visibility of the
container movement inside the ICD.
✓ This will assist Customs to expedite long standing containers and monitor timely clearances and
enhance Ease of Doing Business along with ensuring lead preventive checks.
ICTM was developed in collaboration with M/s. Gateway Rail Freight Limited (GRFL).
Maruti Suzuki Installs Asia’s largest 20 MWp carport type Solar Plant at Manesar, Haryana
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation (Japan), has installed Asia’s
largest 20-MegaWatt Peak (MWp) carport-type solar power plant at its Manesar facility in Gurugram,
Haryana. The Manesar facility will produce 28,000-MegaWatt Hour (MWh) per annum of solar power.
The 20 MWp car-port style solar power plant is designed with the lowest area per unit of power
generation using the East-West direction concept. This maximises power generation using minimum
land.
Railway Protection Force rescues 150 girls, women under Operation Mahila Suraksha
During Operation Mahila Suraksha, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), a security force under the
Indian Railways, has rescued 150 women, including many girls, from becoming victims of human
trafficking.
✓ The pan-India drive “Operation Mahila Suraksha” was launched from 3rd to 31st May 2022 which
aims to ensure the safe and secure travel of women over the Indian railways.

Ministry of Defence approves funding under DRDO’s TDF scheme to Rs 50 crore for MSMEs,
start-ups
Union Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh has approved enhancement of funding under Technology
Development Fund (TDF) scheme, Ministry of Defence, to Rs 50 crore from Rs 10 crore per project.
The scheme was executed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation
(DRDO) and supports indigenous development of components, products, systems and technologies by
MSMEs and start-ups.
TDB under DST to Launch RS 1000 Crore Startup Funder under PPP Model
The Technology Development Board (TDB), a statutory body under the Department of Science and
Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology is set to launch a Rs 1000 crore fund under a
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Its objective is to invest in startups across several sectors. The
fund will also invest in early-stage start-ups. The fund will be launched in 2 phases.
Tata Power Solar Commissions India’s Largest Floating Solar Power Project in Kerala
Tata Power Solar Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned India’s
largest floating solar power project in Kayamkulam, Kerala on a 350-acre water body, backwaters area
with an installed capacity of 101.6-Megawatt (MW) Peak.
✓ This project is the first one in the Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) through Power Purchase
Agreement category.
✓ The entire project floats on the waterbed of Kerala backwater using 134 cast pile foundations that
are bored to a depth of 20 metres underwater to support the Central Monitoring and Control
Stations (CMCS) and the 33/220 kilovolts switchyard.

Union Government extended PMEGP till FY26 with an outlay of Rs 13,554.42 crore
On May 30 2022, The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) was extended for
continuation till the financial year (FY) 2025-26 with the total outlay of approx. Rs 13,554.42 crore,
with an aim of creating sustainable employment opportunities for about 40 lakh persons in five
financial years.
✓ The extension of the scheme is over the 15th Finance Commission Cycle for five years from 2021-
22 to 2025-26. All the States and Union Territories will be covered under the Scheme.
✓ The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is the flagship scheme of the
Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) implemented to facilitate generation of
employment opportunities for unemployed youth across the country by assisting the setting up of

PM Releases Benefits Under ‘PM CARES For Children Scheme’ For Kids who lost parents to
COVID-19 Pandemic
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi released benefits under the ‘PM CARES For Children’ scheme via
video conferencing. The Prime Minister launched the PM CARES for Children Scheme on May 29,
2021.
✓ It aims to help children who have lost both their parents or legal guardians, adoptive parents, or
surviving parents as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic between March 11th, 2020, and February
28th, 2022.
✓ The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) has been tasked with implementing
the PM CARES for Children scheme in partnership with stakeholder Ministries, States, and District
Administration.
✓ The government has created an online portal, http://pmcaresforchildren.in/, to register
children. The portal is a single-window system that streamlines the approval procedure and all

Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM)-Urban 2.0, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and
Urban Affairs (MoHUA), has launched the Revised Swachh Certification Protocols for ODF (Open
Defecation Free), ODF+, ODF++, and Water+ certifications.
✓ The launch event was followed by the third episode of SwachhTalks, namely ‘Swachh
Certifications: The Face of Urban Transformation’, the SBM’s flagship initiative to promote peer
learning of Cities and States.
The government launched Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) on October 2, 2014. It had two primary
components of implementation: i. Achieving 100 per cent open defecation-free (ODF) status & ii. 100
per cent scientific processing of solid waste.
Government Of India Hikes Premium Rates for Flagship Insurance Schemes PMJJBY & PMSBY
For the First Time In 7 Years
The Government of India (GoI) has hiked the insurance premium rates for the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan
Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) to make them
economically viable.
✓ The revision in premium rates is the first in seven years since the schemes’ commencement in
2015. The revised premium rates will be effective from June 1, 2022.
✓ The premium rates for both schemes have been revised by making it Rs 1.25 per day, that includes
revising PMJJBY from Rs. 330 per annum to Rs. 436 per annum and PMSBY from Rs. 12 per annum
to Rs. 20 per annum.
✓ The PMJJBY is a renewable one-year life insurance scheme that provides death coverage.
✓ The PMSBY is a one-year renewable personal accident insurance policy that covers death or
disability caused by an accident. The insurance coverage period runs from June 1 to May 31. Click

“SHRESHTA” Scheme for Meritorious Students of Scheduled Castes Launched by MoSJE Minister

Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE), launched
the Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas
(SHRESHTA) on June 3, 2022, at an event in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
✓ SHRESHTA was created in response to the Constitutional mandate to provide quality education
and opportunities for even the poorest Scheduled Caste (SC) students.
✓ The scheme will provide meritorious poor students from SC communities, whose parental income
is less than Rs. 2.5 lakh per annum, with free access to a high-quality education (from Class 9 to
12).
✓ The scholarships will be funded by GoI, which will cover the school fee (including tuition) and

NHA’s Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Public Dashboard Gets Revamped with New Features
The National Health Authority (NHA) under its flagship scheme of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri
Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) announced the release of its revamped public dashboard that provides
a transparent view about the progress of the scheme and implementation data in a comprehensive
manner at both national and state level.
✓ Aim: To provide key information about the PM-JAY’s progress through real-time data and analysis
on a day-to-day basis.
PM-JAY was launched in September 2018, with an aim to offer secondary and tertiary care services to
the vulnerable population in the society. It offers medical coverage of Rs. 5 lakh (US$ 6.63 thousand)
per family.
Agnipath Scheme: Govt Increased Upper Age Limit to 23 years; Defence Minister approves 10%
reservation of jobs for Agniveers
Amid the protest against Agnipath Scheme (to recruit soldiers only for 4 years), The government of
India (GoI) has granted a one-time waiver for the proposed recruitment cycle for 2022 and
increased the upper age limit for the recruitment process for Agnipath Scheme for 2022 from 21
years to 23 years.
✓ Previously, on the commencement of the scheme the entry age for all new recruits has been fixed
as 17 and half to 21 years of age.
The 10% reservation will be implemented in the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and defence civilian posts,
and all the 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)

Central African Republic becomes 2nd country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender
Central African Republic (CAR) becomes the 2nd country in the world, after El Salvador, to adopt
Bitcoin as legal tender. CAR also became the first African country to adopt Bitcoin as its official
currency.
✓ CAR has adopted bitcoin as legal tender along with the existing fiat currency, the Central African
Franc (CAF) and established a legal and regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies on 27th April
2022.
The CAF, governed by the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) is the official currency of 6 countries
including the Central African Republic. CAR’s parliament has adopted a bill to govern the use of
cryptocurrency.
UNGA adopts India Sponsored Multilingualism Resolution; Mentions Hindi for the 1st Time
On 10th June 2022, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution on
multilingualism, co-sponsored by India, that mentioned the Hindi language for the first time. The
resolution also mentions Bangla and Urdu for the first time.
✓ The resolution encourages the UN to continue to spread awareness about the importance of
communications and messages in official as well as non-official languages such as Portuguese,
Kiswahili, Hindi, Persian, Bangla, and Urdu, in addition to the 6 official languages (Arabic,
Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish), in order to promote multilingualism.
India has been partnering with the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC) since 2018, by
providing an extra-budgetary contribution to mainstream and consolidate news and multimedia

The 34th session of the International Co-ordinating Council (ICC) of the Man and the Biosphere
(MAB) Programme of the UNESCO held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France from 13th to 17th
June 2022 approved to add 11 new biosphere reserves in 9 countries to the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Network of Biosphere
Reserves.
✓ The council has also extended 2 existing biosphere reserves in Spain: El Hierro Biosphere
Reserve and Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve.

NY Legislature Passes World’s First ‘Right to Repair’ Law for Digital Electronics
The New York (NY) State Legislature in the United States (US) has passed the world’s first ‘Right to
Repair’ law that allows digital electronics manufacturers to make parts, tools, information, and
software available to consumers and independent repair shops.
✓ The Digital Fair Repair Act would require manufacturers of digital electronics like cellphones and
computers to make diagnostic and repair information and parts available for sale to independent
repairers.
✓ It does not include motor vehicles, home appliances, medical devices, public safety
communications equipment like police radios, agricultural equipment, and off-road equipment.

European Parliament votes to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035
The European Parliament approved a proposal made by the European Commission in 2021 to ban the
sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035 to fight against climate change through the faster
development of electric vehicles.
✓ The vote was held on an amendment which upholds a key pillar of the European Union’s (EU)
plans to cut net planet-warming emissions 55 percent by 2030, from 1990 levels.
✓ The EU assembly voted in Strasbourg, France (Headquarters of European Parliament) to require
automakers to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 100 percent by the middle of the next decade.
The mandate would amount to a prohibition on the sale in the 27-nation EU of new cars powered by
gasoline or diesel.
India, Israel, UAE & US Form New I2U2 Grouping: I2U2’s First Virtual Summit to Be Held in July
2022
The United States of America (USA) has announced the formation of I2U2, a new group that includes
India, Israel, the USA, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
✓ The new grouping is known as “I2U2,” with “I” standing for India and Israel and “U” standing for
the USA and the UAE. It was given the name International Forum for Economic Cooperation and is
commonly known as the “West Asian Quad”, was an outcome of the Abraham Accords that paved
the way for trilateral collaboration between India, Israel and the UAE.
US President Joe Biden will host the first-of-its-kind virtual summit of I2U2 during his visit to West Asia
from July 13 to 16, 2022 with Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, Israel’s PM Naftali Bennett,

IAEA Launches ISEMIR for Workers Safety to Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has launched a new database of the Information
System on Occupational Exposure in Medicine, Industry and Research (ISEMIR), that targets workers in
industrial processes involving naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM), which can be termed
as ISEMIR-N.
Globally, there are over 24 million workers in various industries such as mining, oil and gas production,
mineral sands, water treatment, metal refining and recycling, phosphate production, and geothermal
energy, who are monitored to ensure radiation safety as they are exposed to NORM.
China’s navy has the world’s largest fleet- To build a naval facility in Cambodia
China is secretly building a naval facility on the northern portion of Cambodia’s Ream Naval Base that
would help extend its military’s currently limited reach in foreign waters.
China commands the world’s largest naval fleet with more than 350 vessels compared to the US Navy
has 296 ships and submarines. China currently has only one foreign naval base at Djibouti in East Africa.

The two African countries, Gabon and Togo, were admitted to the Commonwealth of Nations, as its

chairmanship of Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

Visit Of Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu to Gabon, Senegal and Qatar
Vice President (VP) of India M Venkaiah Naidu paid a visit to Gabon, Senegal and Qatar from 30 May-07
June 2022. This was India’s first visit to all three countries at the level of Vice President. In addition, this
was India’s first-ever high-level visit to Gabon and Senegal.
✓ His visit to Senegal coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and
Senegal.
✓ India and Gabon are both non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, with
terms ending in December 2022.
✓ His visit to Qatar comes as the two countries prepare to commemorate the 50th anniversary of
their diplomatic relations.

RBI reports India’s CAD of 1.2% of GDP in FY22 on widening trade deficit; Bars Credit Lines for
PPIs
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released data on India’s balance of payments (BoP) for the fourth quarter
(Q4), i.e., January-March 2021-22/FY22. India’s current account deficit (CAD) decreased to US$ 13.4
billion(bn) (1.5% of GDP) in Q4:FY22 from US$ 22.2 billion (2.6% of GDP) in Q3:FY22 due to a wider
trade deficit. On an annual basis, CAD recorded a deficit of 1.2% of GDP in FY22 as against a surplus of
0.9% in FY21 because the trade deficit widened to USD 189.5 billion in FY22 from USD 102.2 in FY21.
✓ As per the paper titled ‘Capital Flows at Risk: India’s Experience’, there is only 5% chance of
potential portfolio outflows from India of the order of 3.2% of GDP or $100.6 billion in a year,
amid Covid-19 contraction in GDP growth.
✓ RBI has barred loading of non-banking, Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) such as wallets and
prepaid cards, from credit lines. However, RBI guidelines permit PPIs to be loaded by both cash,
debit to a bank account, credit & debit cards and other payment instruments.
Payments Vision 2025 released by RBI’s DPSS aiming 3x Increase in Digital Payments
The Department of Payment and Settlement Systems (DPSS) of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released a
document on ‘Payments Vision 2025’ on the core theme of ‘E-Payments for Everyone,
Everywhere, Everytime (4Es)’ to provide every user with 6 attributes of safe, secure, fast,
convenient, accessible, and affordable e-payment options.
✓ This document has been prepared after considering the inputs from various stakeholders and
guidance from the Board for Regulation and Supervision of Payment and Settlement Systems of
the RBI.
It is premised on the initiatives of Payments Vision 2019-21, and 5 anchor goalposts of Integrity,

RBI issues New Provisioning Norms for Standard Assets by NBFC-UL; Imposes Rs
27.50 lakh penalty on Punjab & Sind Bank
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued new guidelines regarding Provisioning for Standard assets by
Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC)–Upper Layer (UL) which are aligned with the commercial
banks.
✓ They have to set aside 0.25-2% of the loan amount for standard assets as provisions. These will
come into effect from October 1, 2022.
✓ There are four layers of NBFCs as notified by RBI in its Scale Based Regulation (SBR): A Revised
Regulatory Framework for NBFCs in October 2021. They are: NBFC Base Layer (NBFC-BL);
NBFC – Middle Layer (NBFC-ML); NBFC–Upper Layer (NBFC-UL) & NBFC– Top Layer (NBFC-
TL).
RBI, in exercise of powers vested under the provisions of section 47 A (1) (c) read with sections 46 (4)
(i) & 51 (1) of the Banking Regulation (BR) Act, 1949, imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 27.50 lakh on

RBI Cancels Certificate of Registration Of 3 NBFCS; Two NBFCs Surrenders CoR; RBI Cancels the
License of Mudhol Co-Operative Bank, Karnataka
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the certificate of registration (CoR) of three non-
banking financial companies (NBFCs), including two housing finance companies (HFCs).
✓ The RBI has cancelled the CoR of Malik Motor Finance Limited, Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It has also
cancelled the CoRs of HFCs: North East Region Housing Finance Company Limited in Aizawl,
Mizoram & Aryarth Housing Finance Limited in Gurgaon, Haryana.
✓ Two NBFCs surrendered their CoR issued by the RBI: Empower India Capital Investments Private
Limited in Ernakulam, Kerala & Mangalmayee Garments Private Limited (presently known as
Abhijeet Ferrotech Limited) in Kolkata, West Bengal.
The RBI has cancelled the license of Mudhol Co-operative Bank Limited in Bagalkot, Karnataka,
preventing it from conducting banking operations, with effect from the close of business on June 08,
2022.

RBI extends Card Tokenisation Deadline by 3 months till September 30, 2022
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extended the Card on File (CoF) tokenisation deadline by another three
months to September 30, 2022 from June 30, 2022 for all Payment System Providers and Payment
System Participants. This direction was issued by RBI under Section 10 (2) read with Section 18 of
Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (Act 51 of 2007).
✓ RBI mandated to store customer’s card information in the form of an encrypted form i.e. Card-On-
File Tokenisation (COFT) to secure transactions.
CoFT is a voluntary process that means those who do not wish to create a token can continue to
transact as before by entering card details manually at the time of undertaking the transaction
(commonly referred to as guest checkout transaction).
Credit Card Issuances and Spends Hit a Record High in May 2022
According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, Credit card spends has reached an all-time high of Rs
1.14 trillion in May 2022, 7.8 % higher than the Rs. 1.05 lakh crore spent in April 2022.
✓ Credit card spending increased by 118 percent year over year (YoY) and by 8% month over
month, due to robust e-commerce spending, high-value expenditure on travel, tourism, and
discretionary items.
✓ May 2022 saw the addition of 38,500 new cards from Housing Development Finance Corporation
Limited (HDFC) Bank, followed by 21,500 from Axis Bank, 21,200 from ICICI Bank, and 21,500
from SBI Card (20,200).
The biggest incremental growth in credit card spending was recorded by IndusInd Bank and Kotak
Mahindra Bank, at 17% and 15%, respectively. All other players experienced growth in the 4–9% range.

World Bank Approves USD 250 million for India’s Road Safety Program
The Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank (WB) has approved the financing of USD 250
million to support the “India State Support Program for Road Safety”, a project by the Indian

SEBI gives UPI payment option to Invest in Public Issues of REITs, InvITs; Imposes Rs 30 lakh

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) provided an additional payment option of Unified
Payments Interface (UPI) to retail investors to apply in the public issue of units of Infrastructure
Investment Trust (InvIT) and Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) for application value up to Rs 5 lakh
w.e.f. August 1, 2022.
✓ For InvITs, this decision has been taken in exercise of the powers conferred under Regulation 14
(6) and 33 of SEBI (InvIT) Regulations, 2014 and Section 11(1) of the SEBI Act, 1992.
✓ For REIT, this decision has been taken in exercise of the powers conferred under Regulation
14(24) and 33 of SEBI (REIT) Regulations, 2014 and Section 11(1) of the SEBI Act, 1992.
SEBI has imposed a penalty of Rs 30 lakh on Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and two of its
compliance officers, Savithri Parekh and K Sethuraman, for not promptly disclosing the stake sales in

US Announces USD 122 Million Fund for India to Address Challenges Posed by Infectious
Diseases
The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States (US) has announced a
funding of about USD 122 million (USD 122,475,000) to top three Indian medical research
institutions: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in New Delhi, Delhi, National Institute of
Virology (NIV) in Pune, Maharashtra and National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) in Chennai, Tamil
Nadu.The overall funding period will be 5 years, from September 30, 2022 to September 29, 2027.
Eligibility for funding is limited to the ICMR in New Delhi, the apex governing body for the numerous
national level institutes. These institutions are designated by the Government of India’s Ministry of
Health and Family Health and Welfare (MoHFW).

Thoothukudi-based Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Limited (since 1921), a Private Sector Bank has

LIC launches Dhan Sanchay Life Insurance Plan with Income Benefit
The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a Dhan Sanchay Savings scheme, which is
a non-linked, non-participating, individual, savings life insurance plan providing guaranteed Income
Benefit and Terminal Benefit (Life protection) payable at the time of maturity of scheme.
✓ The plan is available for a term of minimum 5 years to maximum 15 years depending on the
option chosen by the policy holder.
There are 4 types of plans have been introduced under the LIC Dhan Sanchay plan. These are options A,
B, C and D. The minimum sum assured under the option A & B of the plan is Rs 3,30,000. For option C it
is Rs 2,50,000 and for option D it is Rs 22,00,000.
IRDAI reduced Solvency Margin Requirement for General Insurers Doing Crop Business
Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has reduced the solvency margin
requirement for general insurers doing crop business. This decision frees up a capital of Rs 1400 crore
which will increase the capacity of general insurers to underwrite more business.
✓ IRDAI has been relaxing the period of admissibility of premiums due from state governments for
solvency purposes from 180 days to 365 days since 2017-18.
✓ It has decided to extend this relaxation from FY23 onwards until further orders. It has also
reduced the capital required to be held by insurance companies offering policies under Pradhan
Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) by almost 50 per cent to enable insurers to offer more
policies under the scheme.

WPI inflation rises to Record High of 15.88% in May 2022: DPIIT Data
In accordance with the data released by the Office of the Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion
of Industry and Internal Trade(DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), the Wholesale Price
Index (WPI) inflation rose to a record high of 15.88% in May 2022 from 15.08% in April 2022. This is
the highest WPI in the 2011-12 series. The WPI based inflation was 13.11% in May 2021.
✓ May 2022 Statistics: Inflation in food articles - 12.34%, fuel and power basket inflation - 40.62%,
Inflation in crude petroleum & natural gas - 79.50%.
Retail inflation in May 2022 was 7.04%, remaining above the Reserve Bank’s upper tolerance level of
6% for the fifth consecutive month.
The highest inflation rate was recorded by Telangana at 9.45%, followed by Maharashtra at 8.52%
and Andhra Pradesh at 8.49%.
✓ According to the data, Maharashtra has 1.48 million normal GST payers while UP has 1.33 million
GST payers.
✓ Gujarat has 1.09 million normal and composition taxpayers and Tamil Nadu has 1.06 million GST
registrations.
UP has the largest share of small businesses with over 357000 composition dealers, While Maharashtra
and Rajasthan have around 122000 and 137000 composition dealers respectively
India’s Merchandise Exports Likely to Be at USD 117.2 Billion In Q1 FY23: Exim Bank
The Export-Import Bank of India (India Exim Bank) has forecasted India’s total merchandise exports
to reach USD 117.2 billion, growing at 22.7% in the first quarter (Q1) of FY23. With this, India’s overall
merchandise exports will continue to cross USD 100 billion for the fourth consecutive quarter in a row.
✓ Non-oil exports continued to expand by double digits (12.6 %) in the Q1 (April-June) FY23,
reaching USD 93 billion, but the non-oil exports were USD 82.6 billion in Q1 FY22.
India’s overall exports (Merchandise and Services combined) are estimated to reach USD 62.21 billion
in May 2022, an increase of 24.03 % over May 2021.
Meanwhile, total imports (merchandise and services combined) are estimated to reach USD 77.65
billion in May 2022, up 59.19 % over the same period in 2021.
CEA: India would become USD 5 trillion economy by 2026-27 & USD 10 trillion by 2033-34
Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) of India, stated that India would become a USD 5
trillion economy by 2026-27 and a USD 10 trillion economy by 2033-2034.
✓ At present India is a USD 3.3 trillion economy, assuming a 10% nominal GDP growth in dollar
terms will get USD 10 trillion by 2023-34 and another doubling with the same rate.

the Global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pioneer for water

of-its-kind land price index.

provisions of the General Anti-Avoidance Rule (GAAR) arising in the future.
✓ Panasonic, the Japan-based tech brand approached the NCLT for the merger of loss-making
Panasonic India with the profit-making Panasonic Life Solutions India solely aims at tax avoidance.

ADIA to Invest Rs 2200 Crore in IIFL Home Finance for 20% Stake
A wholly-owned arm of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) is set to invest Rs 2200 crore in IIFL
Home Finance Limited for 20% of its stake. This will be one of the largest equity investments in the
affordable housing finance segment in India by a financial investor.

Tencent Acquires A USD 264 Million Stake in Flipkart from Binny Bansal
Tencent, a Chinese technology conglomerate, has bought a stake in Walmart-owned Flipkart from its
co-founder Binny Bansal for USD 264 million (about Rs 2,060 crore) through its European subsidiary
Tencent Cloud Europe BV.
After selling a part of his stake to Tencent Cloud Europe BV, Binny Bansal now owns around 1.84 % of
Flipkart.
✓ Following the transaction, Tencent Cloud Europe BV now owns 0.72 % of Flipkart, which is worth
around USD 264 million.
Though Tencent has invested in a number of enterprises in India, the Indian government has banned
various gaming apps, including PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite, which were developed by Tencent

BALTOPS (Baltic On 5th June 2022 North Atlantic Treaty
Operations) 22 Organisation (NATO) initiated BALTOPS (Baltic
Operations) 22, a two-week 51st iteration of the
premier maritime-focused exercise took place from
June 5-17 ,2022 on the Baltic Sea. It is being hosted by
Sweden. The annual BALTOPS naval exercise was
initiated in 1972.
✓ It comprised of more than 7,000 sailors, airmen
- and marines from 16 nations, involving 45
vessels and 75 aircrafts including Finland and
Sweden, aspiring to join the military alliance.
✓ As NATO’s close partners, Finland and Sweden
have participated in the naval drill since the
mid-1990s.
It will be linked to the 500th anniversary of the Royal

Nuclear-capable Agni- APJ Abdul Kalam On June 6, 2022, India successfully carried out a night
4(“Fire”) Intermediate- Island launch of the nuclear-capable Agni-4(“Fire”) Intermediate-
Range Ballistic Missile Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) from the APJ Abdul Kalam
(IRBM) Island (earlier known as Wheeler Island) in Odisha It is a
two stage Surface to Surface missile with range of around
3500-4,000 kilometres. This test reaffirms India’s policy of
having a ‘Credible Minimum Deterrence Capability’.
✓ It can carry a 1,000-kg payload and can go as high
as 900 km, and is 4th in the Agni series of missiles
which was earlier known as Agni II prime. The test
was part of routine user training launches carried
out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces
Command (SFC).
Notably, Agni-1 to 5 missiles is designed & developed
by Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO) and inducted into services to act as
deterrence & meet India’s security requirements.

Missile launch of a Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM), Prithvi-
(SRBM), Prithvi-II II from an integrated test range, Chandipur, Odisha.
✓ Prithvi II is developed by the Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO) of India under
its Integrated Guided Missile Development

✓ It was initially developed for the Indian Air

INS Nishank & INS Akshay Decommissioned in Mumbai; Rendering Around 32 years of glorious
service
On June 3, 2022, the Indian Naval Ship (INS), ‘Nishank’(K43), 4th of Veer Class Missile Corvette Killers
and ‘INS Akshay’(P35), Abhay class corvette were decommissioned during a ceremony conducted at
Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, Maharashtra wherein the National Flag, Naval Ensign and
Decommissioning Pennant of the two ships were lowered for the last time at sunset. Both ships
rendered more than 32 years of glorious service to the nation.
✓ INS Nishank and INS Akshay were part of the 22 Missile Vessel Squadron and 23 Patrol Vessel
Squadron, respectively, under the operational control of Flag Officer Commanding, Maharashtra

✓ INS Nishank, was a high-speed missile craft commissioned on September 12, 1989, while INS
Akshay was commissioned on December 10, 1990 at Poti, Georgia.

Defence Ministry Amends Service Rule: Retired Chiefs of Tri Service Eligible for the Post of CDS
The Ministry of Defence has amended the service rule of the Army, Air Force and Navy, inserting the
clause after sub-rule (4) of rule 16A of the Army Rules, 1954.
✓ This clause allows the retired Chief and their second in command in the armed forces, not older
than 62, eligible for the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), the topmost military assignment.
The government may extend the service of the CDS for such a period as it may deem necessary subject
to a maximum age of 65 years. This will enable the retired 3-star generals from Army, Navy and Air
force to become eligible for the post of CDS.
India set to launch 1st Human Space Mission Gaganyaan & 1st Human Ocean Mission in 2023
Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge), Ministry of Earth Sciences
(MoES); and Ministry of Science & Technology announced that India is set to simultaneously launch the
first Human Space Mission “Gaganyaan” as well as the first manned Human Ocean Mission in 2023, at
an event organised as a part of World Ocean Day 2022 (8th June) at Prithvi Bhawan, Delhi.
✓ He announced that Indian govt. is set to unveil the Blue Economy Policy and more than 40 million
people will be employed by ocean-based industries by 2030.

NCPCR Launches “CiSS application” under Baal Swaraj Portal to Help Rehabilitation of Children
in Street Situations
The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) launched
the “CiSS application” under the Baal Swaraj portal to help in the rehabilitation process of Children in
Street Situations (CiSS).
✓ The portal developed by NCPCR is a first-of-its-kind initiative in India to help children in street
situations. It follows six stages framework for the rehabilitation of children. The initiative is taken
under the direction of the Supreme Court of India.
This program incorporates Article 51 (A) of the Constitution of India, as it provides a platform to the
public and organizations that support the welfare of the children to report any child in need of
assistance.

✓ The supercomputer – Frontier, which was built for the US Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge
National Laboratory (ORNL).
✓ The supercomputer Fugaku, installed at the RIKEN Centre for Computational Science in Kobe,
Japan, has a Linmark benchmark score of 442 petaflops.
In its previous listing as of November 2021, India’s highest ranking in the supercomputer list came in at
102, with the Param Siddhi-AI.
The CubeSat satellite will use NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) as a reference point to know
its position in space.
China Launches its 1st fully Domestically Built Aircraft Carrier named Fujian
On June 17, 2022, China launched its first fully domestically built catapult aircraft carrier, ‘Fujian’
which is its most advanced naval vessel, at a ceremony held at Shanghai’s Jiangnan Shipyard. It is
named after China’s eastern coastal province of Fujian.
✓ Fujian is China’s 3rd aircraft carrier built by China State Shipbuilding
Corporation (CSSC) Limited. It is the biggest and most modern aircraft carrier, marking a major
military advance for the Asian superpower.
The advanced catapult system is called Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) which is
more energy-efficient and reduces maintenance.
US, South Korea Fires 8 Ballistic Missiles to Sea, Matching North Korea’s Launches
The US and South Korean militaries launched eight ballistic missiles into the sea that equaled the
North Korean missile display.
✓ The North Korea is firing eight short-range missiles over 35 minutes from at least four different
locations, including from western and eastern coastal areas and two inland areas north of and near
Pyongyang, North Korea.
✓ U.S. and South Korean – The two forces conducted a similar live-fire drill that involved an Inter-
Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) flown on medium-range trajectory and two short-range

China Launched Crewed Mission for Construction of China’s Tiangong Space Station
China successfully launched the 3 astronauts (including 1 woman astronaut) on a 6-month mission to
complete the construction of China’s Tiangong Space Station, a space station being built by the China
Manned Space Agency (CMSA) in the Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Following the completion of Space Station
construction, China will become the only country to own a space station.
✓ The 3 Chinese astronauts, onboard the Shenzhou-14 spacecraft was lifted off from the Jiuquan
Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
The 3-member mission will complete the assembly and construction of the space station, developing it
from a single module structure into a national space laboratory with 3 modules which include the core
model Tianhe (“Harmony of the Heavens”) and 2 lab modules, Wentian (“Asking the Heavens”) and
Mengtian (“Dreaming of the Heavens”).
China releases New Comprehensive Geologic Map of the Moon; World’s ‘Most Detailed to date’
Map of Moon
China has released a new comprehensive geologic map of the moon. This is the world’s “most detailed
to date” map of the moon. The new map of scale 1:2,500,000 was published by Science Bulletin.
✓ This high-resolution topographic map was prepared based on the data from Chang’e project, the
lunar exploration project of China.
This project was led by the Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences along with the
Chinese Academy of Geological Science, China University of Geosciences and Shandong University.

Indian javelin ace and Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra has won the gold medal by winning the
Javelin throw event (86.69 meters) at the Kuortane Games 2022 in Kuortane, Finland. This marks the
first top podium finish of the season. He won the gold defeating reigning world champion Anderson
Peters of Grenada.

blitz event and secured fourth position.
✓ The Norway Chess 2022 will take place between May 30 to June 10 2022. It consists of Blitz
tournament and Classical tournament. The first edition of the Norway Chess was held in 2013.

World’s 1st Fishing Cat Census: 176 fishing cats found during survey in Chilika Lake
The world’s 1st population estimation of Fishing Cat was undertaken outside the protected area
network in Chilika lake in Odisha state by the Chilika Development Authority (CDA) in collaboration
with The Fishing Cat Project (TFCP).
✓ A range of 131 – 237 species have been recorded as Schedule-I species during the survey. There
were 176 Fishing Cats found in the lake. It was conducted by the CDA. Spatially Explicit Capture-
Recapture (SECR) method along with around 150 camera traps were deployed for nearly 30 days
to analyse the data.
✓ The Fishing Cat is a globally threatened species found in marshlands, mangroves, flooded forests
and other wetlands of 10 Asian countries but have remained untraced in Vietnam and Java for
more than a decade.
Chilika lake is Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon and first Indian wetland of international
importance under the Ramsar Convention. It Spread over the Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts of
Odisha state on the east coast of India, at the mouth of the Daya River.
India Finalises Deals for Cheetahs from South Africa and Namibia
The Indian government has finalised deals with South Africa and Namibia to get the planet’s fastest
animals, cheetahs that became extinct in India and will be released into the wild at Kuno Palpur
National Park in Sheopur district, Madhya Pradesh, by the end of 2022. There will be 12 cheetahs
from South Africa and 8 from Namibia and more will be followed in subsequent years.
✓ Initially, an MoU will be signed for 10 years, which can be extended for another five years.
Namibia was keen on India’s support as it wants 22 elephants to be exported to the United Arab
Emirates (UAE).
