Binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) has been widely studied regarding its
antioxidant activity which has the potential to inhibit free radicals. Many cosmetic
preparations containing antioxidants in various form, one of which is a peel off gel mask.
Eucheuma cottonii seaweed contains agar, alginate, carrageenan which acts as an emulsifier,
 stabilizer, thickener and gelling agent which are widely used as cosmetic raw materials.
This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of binahong extract and can be
formulated into a peel off gel mask with seaweed pulp as a gelling agent and has antioxidant
that meets the requirements of the quality of the physical evaluation of the preparation. The
method was carried out by maceration extraction with 70% ethanol, screening fitokimia and
antioxidant measurement by reducing DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl) with ascorbic
acid as a comparison. Formulas were made with concentrations of 5xIC50, 10xIC50, and
15xIC50. Furthermore, the physical evaluation of the preparation was carried out including
organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, dispersion, dry time, viscosity, and stability of the
preparation. The results showed that the phytochemical screening of binahong extract
contained flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The IC50 value of 70% ethanol extract of
binahong was 117.58 ppm. The IC50 value in the peel off gel mask formula F1, F2, F3 was
199.41; 181.72; and 165.94 ppm. The four formulations met the requirements of
organoleptic, homogeneity, pH value6.10 to 6.27, dry time 15.20 to 17.08 minutes, viscosity
met the requirements of SNI 16- 4399-1996 gel viscosity value of 3000 – 50.000 cp. Based on
the research, it can be concluded that the binahong extract can be formulated into a peel off
gel mask with Eucheuma cottonii seaweed pulp as a gelling agent and meets the quality
requirements of physical evaluation. The three formulations of the peel off gel mask had
antioxidant activity.
