pipe.
• Protectors must be firmly tight.
l.c
• In the mouse hole, keep the pin protector
on.

BREAK IN
• If not break in at the factory, all new connections
om
must be break in:
– Make up slowly at nominal make up torque
– Break the connection, monitor break out
torque, the break out torque should be around
l.c
80% of the make up torque.
– Make up again at nominal make up
oi
– Break out, monitor break out torque
– Visually inspect and re-dope
– The connection is ready !

DOPE
• If the pipes were ship with storage dope, remove
om
and apply new dope.
• Dope (Zinc, copper, green)
• Testing a new dope.
l.c
– (Comparison with 50% zinc based dope “API”) make up with
“API” dope and mark the position of the shoulders.
– Change dope and reach this position, looking at torque
oi
indicator, this is the new make up torque for the dope tested.
• Some dopes do not stay on wet connection, clean the
connection with air before applying dope.

STABBING
• Carefully stab to avoid damages in the
om
threads or on box shoulder.
• Use of thread compensator on hook and
top drive is recommended.
l.c
• Some iron rough neck can be fitted with
thread compensator.

MAKE UP TORQUE
• Minimum make up torque (shoulder

separation when bending)
• Maximum make up torque (beginning of
tensile capacity decrease)
l.c
• Optimum make up torque = in between, to
be adjusted upon drilling torque.
