direction, what must be current flowing in coil Y so as to make the total magnetic field at the common center
of two coils zero? Now with same currents flowing in the two coils if the coil Y is now lifted vertically upward
through a distance R, what would be the net magnetic field at the common center of the coil Y?

Q5. A length L of a wire carries a current I. Show that if the wire is formed into a circular coil, the maximum

Q6. A galvanometer of resistance G is converted to voltmeter to measure V volts by connecting in series with
resistance R1. If a resistance R2 is connected in series with it can measure up to V/2 volts. Find the resistance R
in terms of R1 and R2 required it to convert it into a voltmeter of range 2V. Also find G in terms of R1 and R2.
(R = 3R1- 2R2) and (G = R1- 2R2).

Q7. A Galvanometer coil has a resistance of 12 ohm and meter shows full scale deflection for a current of 3

Q8 A Galvanometer has a resistance of 15 ohm and gives a full scale deflection for a current of 4 m A. How
will you convert it into an ammeter of range 0 to 6 Ampere? (10 mili ohm in parallel)

Q9. Two long and parallel straight wires A and B carrying current 8A and 5A in the same direction are
separated by 4 cm. Estimate the force on 10 cm section of wire A.

Q10. Using Biot Savarts law to obtain an expression for the magnetic field at the center of coil bent in the
form of a square of side 2a carrying current I.

Q.11. In the bohr’s model of hydrogen atom, the electron circulates around the nucleus on a path of radius
0.5Å at a frequency of 5x1015 revolution/sec. Calculate the magnitude of the magnetic field at the centre of the
orbit.
Q12. Two wires A and B have same length equal to 44cm and carry a current of 10A each. Wire A is bent in
the form of a circle and wire B is bent in the form of a square. Which wires produces greater magnetic field at
the center. Also find magnetic field at the center of two wires. (Square)

common center. Find the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field at the common center of the two coils,
if they carry current equal to I and (3)1/2I respectively?

Q14. A straight thick long wire of uniform cross section of radius a carries a steady current I. Use Ampere
Circuital Law to obtain a relation showing variation of magnetic field B with distance r for r<a and r>a of the
field point from center of its cross section. Plot a graph showing variation of B with r?

Q15. An electron after being accelerated through 104 V enters a uniform magnetic field of 0.04 T
perpendiculars to its direction of motion. Calculate the radius of trajectory. (8.43 mm)

Q16. A proton and an alpha particle enter at right angles to a uniform magnetic field of intensity B. Calculate
the ratio of the radius of their circular paths when they enter field with same momentum? (2:1)

Q17. An electron does not suffer any deflection while passing through a region. Are you sure that there is no
magnetic field in that region?
