Chapter 13 — Handling Data Pictograph A pictograph uses pictures or symbols to show numbers and represent information. The Key tells us the meaning and value of the picture symbol. (1) Different numbers of plants were planted by the students of a school on five days of a week. (b) Find the total number of plants planted during the week. (c) On which day was the maximum number of plants planted? (d) On which day was the minimum number of plants planted? (e) What is the difference between the maximum and minimum number of plants planted on the two days? Answers: (a) How many plants were planted each day? Sunday: 3 * 10 = 30 Monday: 7 x 10 = 70 Tuesday: 6 x 10 = 60 Wednesday: 8 x 10 = 80 Thursday: 2 * 10 = 20 (b) Find the total number of plants planted during the week. The total number of plants planted during the week = 30+70+60+80+20 = 260 plants (c) On which day was the maximum number of plants planted? Wednesday: 8 x 10 = 80 plants (d) On which day was the minimum number of plants planted? Thursday: 2 * 10 = 20 (e) What is the difference between the maximum and minimum number of plants planted on the two days? Maximum numbers = 80 Minimum numbers = 20 Difference between the maximum and minimum number of plants planted ‘on the two days = 80 - 20 = 60 (2) if © = 20 then @ @ © @ = 80 (3) (4/4) 4 @ represent 100 books , then & represents 20 books. Drawing Pictograph: (1) Make a pictograph with the help of the data given below. Use a suitable title and the key. Favourite cartoons of students in No. of students.
