(SCI) Activity 2 - Historical Antecedents in The Course of Science and Technology
Name: Lasona, Joana Mae I. Year & Course: 3rd Year – BSHM
Subject: Science, Technology and Society
For me, studying the history of science and technology will let me
know how all the things started and how it was implemented to make
the lives of the people much easier. Studying the history will give me
more knowledge on how the people in the ancient time are smart
enough to make advances in science and technology and how they were
able to discover such things and how they invent things that I think is
very interesting to know. We wouldn’t know how they influence us and
how they affect now the modern lives of the people. Science and
Technology is what I say, is full of knowledge that we people in the
modern world must really take time to study, to gain knowledge and
know the things that the ancient people left to us. Understanding the
evolution of science and technology is crucial because these fields play a
significant role in society and will benefit present and future
generations of people by advancing knowledge. It has become clear to us
thanks to the history of science and technology that everything exists for
a reason.

Instruction: Answer the following questions. Observe correct spelling, grammar, and
punctuation mark. Use given rubric at the end of this module.
1. What are the top three inventions that have an impact to you? Why?
The top three inventions that have an impact to me is first, the Cuneiform.
The Cuneiform is the first writing system made by the Sumerians to keep the
records of important items or even their daily lives. For me, the Cuneiform
invention is what I think the origin of our writing in the modern era that
really help us until now. Second is the Paper of Papyrus, paper of papyrus was
discovered by the Egyptians. Along the banks of the Nile, papyrus was a plant
that grew wildly in Egypt. The plant was capable of being processed to yield
thin sheets that could be used for note-taking. We know that the paper in the
modern era was widely use by the people like workplace, school, and many
more. Thanks to the discovery of Egyptians, we have a wonderful paper to
write with. And for my third invention, that I think is widely use by the people
in the present, the Wheel. In the latter stages of their history, the Sumerians
were able to create the wheel because the sophisticated tools needed to do so
were already in existence. The wheel really helps the people in terms of
transportation, with the help of the wheel, the people can now travel faster
whenever they want.
2. Explain the effects of the different inventions on the society and environment and
vice versa on the following aspects.
a. Transportation - The wheel and other significant new technologies have had a
significant influence on human society. People are affected in both positive
and negative ways by modern modes of transportation. They make it possible
for people and goods to travel quickly around the world. However, the vast
majority of them pollute the environment.
b. Communication - Individuals' communication, learning, and thinking styles
are influenced by technology. We live in a time when technological
advancements are common. Examples include the internet and cell phones. A
technology's impact on the environment can be either positive or negative.
Learning is one aspect of technology that has had a significant impact on
society. Mobile communication, on the other hand, has a negative impact on
people's ability to be sociable and make face-to-face contact. Communication
and interpersonal relationships can suffer as a result of mobile technology.
c. Health - There are numerous ways in which technology can benefit our
health. Technology assists medical providers in providing better patient care,
improving patient relationships, and delivering medical results directly to
patients' phones. However, while technology is increasing access to mental
health services, it is also contributing to an increase in overall mental illness.
