 Today’s presentation will cover:

❖ Importance of using the perio-aid & correct usage

❖ When the perio-aid should be recommended / type of patients
❖ Identify areas of the mouth that would benefit from use
❖ Properly assembly and demonstration techniques for patients
❖ How to clean, store, and when to replace perio-aid
EDUCATIONAL GOAL:
- To increase the educational knowledge of
periodontal aids in the community of

 When to recommended the perio-aid to patients?

- Patients with furcations

- Patients with areas of redness around
tissue margins
- Improves oral health by removing
biofilm
- Stimulates the gums, encourages blood
flow and regeneration of tissues
- Clears plaque and bacteria build up.
- Prevents gum diseases
Assembly:

- Can use household toothpick

Perio-Aid use:
- Insert a round tapered toothpick into the
end of the holder
- Moistened the end of the toothpick
- Place the toothpick tip at the gingival
margin with the tip pointed at a 45 °
angle
- Trace the gingival margins around the
tooth
Perio-Aid use:
- Designed to be used from both facial
and lingual aspect
- In and out motion to clean furcations or
concave proximal surfaces
- Maintain contact with the tooth at all
times

Storage, cleaning, replace:

- Store in a cupboard, or medicine cabinet

- Rince under sink with warm running water

- Change toothpick when end is dull or breaks.

How to talk to the patient about the perio-aid?

- Use layman's terms such as: follow the “gum line” on both the
“cheek side” and the “tongue side”
- Interproximal = in between your teeth
- After finding out where the patient is and what the patient wants:
➢ Keeping teeth ➢ Function
➢ Expense ➢ Health
➢ Looks ➢ Quality of life
➢ Length of life
