Objective

The objective of this assignment is to enable students:

o To understand the basic concepts of Information System (IS).

o To understand the concepts of management styles and closed and open System.

Question No. 1

Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) is a famous telecommunication company in Pakistan providing

Pakistan telephonic and internet services throughout the country. You are required to identify any four functional
areas/departments of this company and mention at least two information requirements for each of these functional
areas. To get company information and their functional areas/departments, visit website of PTCL

Functional Area/Department Information Requirements

1 Human Resource Department
2 Finance Department
3 Marketing Department
4 Technical Department
It is working under SEVP and GM at regional center HR
manager play a very important role in hierarchy and also in
between the higher management and low level employees.
The management of PTCL consider that in order to stay
competitive and to meet the needs of their customer.
This Department is divided in to three sub sections
 Finance
 Account
 Revenue
In Finance department deals with revenue matters of
company and In accounts department deals with proper
book keeping of financial transactions, commercial audit.
And In revenue department id generated by the marketing
department. In this department selling the company
products is collected by the Revenue Department.
This department deals with market research and gives
feedback to management.
Purpose of this department is to check customers needs and
wants on the basis of which products and services are
developed.
This Department is engaged in the management and control
of technical aspects of the company.
The technical aspects of the company include technical
man power, technical training, technical equipment etc.

Question No. 2:
Consider following situations and decide which management style (Authoritative or Participative) is most
appropriate for the following given situations.

Situation/Scenario Management Style

Project Team working on a project collectively with Participative
different specialized skills sets.
Emergency situations e.g., Earthquake, fire in office Authoritative
building.
Introducing a new product in specific region based on Participative
customers’ needs in that particular area.
Working in such an environment where even small Authoritative
mistake/error cannot be tolerated.
