The geotechnical investigation Scope of Work (SOW) shall be approved


by the Supervisor, Civil Engineering Unit, Consulting Services

A1 Department, prior to initiation of any field work. Submission of a Scope of
Sec. 6.1
Work for approval shall follow SAEP-61. Scope of Work shall be produced
using the SOW template provided by CSD.

The geotechnical investigation and engineering shall be conducted by a

A2 Contractor on the Consulting Services Department list of SAEP-383
Sec. 7.1.1
Approved Geotechnical Engineering Offices.

A site-specific geotechnical investigation is required for all new onshore


SAES A-113
A3 structures, foundations, major roads , pipelines etc. unless exempt by
Sec. 5.1
paragraph 5.2.

Geotechnical investigations are not required when all of the following


conditions have been met; a. when the footprint of the structure is less
than 4x4m (guard houses, sun shelters etc), b. the net bearing pressure
on the foundation does not exceed 100 kPa (2000 psf), c. the foundation SAES A-113
A4
will not be subjected to vibratory or dynamic loads, d. the supported Sec. 5.2
equipment or structure is not settlement sensitive, e. unusual soil
conditions, such as subkha or expansive clay are not present or observed
in nearby borings, f. no other special considerations apply.

The geotechnical contractor shall submit a statement endorsing the

A5 adequacy of the proposed investigation program or submit suggested
Sec. 7.1.2
modifications prior to commencement of the field works as per SAEP-61.

A risk assessment study, for potential underground cavities is required for


SAES-A-113
A6 all Type A and B projects or grass-root plants in the areas of
Sec. 5.5
predominantly limestone geology

The geotechnical contractor shall comply with all aspects of the Saudi
SAES-A-113
A7 Aramco Construction Safety Manual and all safety programs and policies
Sec. 8.1.1
of Saudi Aramco.
