PRACTICE SET FOR LONG TEST #2 (PART 2)

Case Analysis for Test of Correlation

A professor conducted a research in order to determine the factors that can potentially
influence the final course grades of students.
The following are the research variables of the research:
Y (dependent or response) variable:
 Course Final Grade – pertains to final grade of a student for a course
X (independent or explanatory) variable:
 Study hours – pertains to number of hours spent studying by a student for the
course
 Frequency of getting plus points – pertains to how often a student gets plus
points
 Hours spent surfing internet – pertains to # of hours spent by a student in using
the internet for non-academic purposes (gaming, etc.)
 Frequency of class participation – pertains to how often a student recites in class
 Attendance – pertains to the number of times a student is present in class for
the entire term
The professor conducted the test of correlation using Jamovi to determine which of the 5
independent (X) variables have a SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP with the dependent (Y) variable.
In answering the questions, pls. refer to bottom part of this file for the results of the test of
correlation as conducted in Jamovi.
1. What is the direction of correlation between course final grade and study hours?
a. Positive whereby as study hours increase, course final grade also increases.
b. Negative whereby as study hours increase, course final grade also increases.
