OSHA: This product is considered an 'article' under 29 CFR Part 1910.1200. For
informational purposes, this product would have the following OSHA classification;
Oxidizer;
Acute Health Hazard;
Chronic Health Hazard
.
Emergency Overview : White coloured powder / pellets, or blue coloured paste contained inside the water filter assembly.
This product is considered to be a 'manufactured article'. Under normal conditions of use, users of the
product cannot be exposed to its harmful contents. However, if the article is damaged and/or material is
released, contents are harmful. This safety data sheet covers the chemicals contained inside the water
filter. The hazard information in this SDS is being provided for informational purposes only, should the
article become damaged and its contents are released.
DANGER! Contains a strong oxidizer. Contact with combustible material may cause fire. Harmful or fatal
if swallowed. May be fatal if too much is inhaled. May cause severe irritation and corrosive damage in
the mouth, throat and stomach. May cause severe irritation to the nose, throat and respiratory tract.
Prolonged contact may produce chemical burns to affected skin areas. Corrosive to eyes. Contains
material which may cause adverse blood system effects. Possible reproductive hazard. Contains
material that may cause adverse reproductive effects, based on animal data.

Inhalation : None expected, when used as intended. However, if the article is damaged and/or material is released,
contents may be harmful by inhalation.
If mists are formed, may cause severe irritation to the nose, throat and respiratory tract. Symptoms may
include coughing, chest pain and shortness of breath. May be fatal if too much is inhaled. Repeated
overexposure may result in methemoglobinemia with symptoms of dizziness, drowsiness, cyanosis, rapid
heart rate, unconsciousness and death.
Skin : None expected, when used as intended. However, if the article is damaged and/or material is released,
contents are harmful.
May cause moderate to severe skin irritation. Prolonged contact may produce chemical burns to affected
skin areas. Product may be absorbed and cause symptoms similar to those listed for ingestion.
Eyes : None expected, when used as intended. However, if the article is damaged and/or material is released
product may be considered: Severely irritating or corrosive.
Ingestion : None expected, when used as intended. However, if the article is damaged and/or the material is released,
contents are harmful if swallowed.
May cause severe irritation and corrosive damage in the mouth, throat and stomach. Symptoms may
include severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Ingestion of extremely large amounts of nitrites or
nitrates may affect oxygen transport in the blood and blood system, causing methemoglobinemia.
Symptoms of poisoning may include cyanosis (bluish discolouration of the skin), nausea, dizziness, rapid
heartbeat and irregular breathing.
Effects of long-term (chronic) exposure
: None expected, when used as intended. However, if the article is damaged and/or the
material is released, contents are harmful following prolonged overexposure.
Prolonged or repeated contact may cause drying, cracking and defatting of the skin.
Repeated or prolonged overexposure may cause anemia and kidney effects.
Carcinogenic status : See TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION, Section 11.
Additional health hazards : Potential reproductive toxicant. See TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION, Section 11.
Potential environmental effects
: See ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION, Section 12.
Eye contact : Harmful effects are not expected under normal usage. However, if article is damaged and/or
material is released, flush eyes thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes. Seek
immediate medical attention/advice.
Ingestion : Harmful effects are not expected under normal usage. However, if article is damaged and/or
material is released, do not induce vomiting. If swallowed, obtain medical attention
immediately. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Incompatible materials : Strong acids, strong oxidizing agent (e.g. Chlorides, peroxides), reducing agents (e.g.
cyanides, metal hydrides). Avoid organic materials. fluorine; Charcoal.
Special packaging materials : Always keep in containers made of the same materials as the supply container.
SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure Limits
Skin protection : Wear resistant gloves. Advice should be sought from glove suppliers. Wear a chemically
resistant apron and long sleeves when dispensing, to prevent skin contact.
Eye / face protection : Chemical splash goggles are recommended.
Other protective equipment : Emergency showers and eyewash facilities should be nearby.
General hygiene considerations
: Avoid breathing dust. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. When using do not eat or
drink. When using do not smoke. Upon completion of work, wash hands before eating,
drinking, smoking or use of toilet facilities. Remove soiled clothing and wash it thoroughly
before reuse.

Carcinogenic status : No components are listed as carcinogens by ACGIH, IARC, OSHA or NTP.
Reproductive effects : Contains: Sodium metaborate, anhydrous. Sodium metaborate, anhydrous will metabolize to
Boric acid. The data regarding subchronic and chronic oral exposure to boric acid in
laboratory animals have demonstrated reproductive and developmental toxicity. Available
animal data indicates that this substance has toxic effects on the male reproductive tract and
causes malformations in the fetus. Testicular lesions have been observed in rats, mice, and
dogs administered boric acid in food or drinking-water (INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME
ON CHEMICAL SAFETY Environmental Health Criteria document # 204).
Teratogenicity : Contains: Sodium metaborate, anhydrous. Sodium metaborate, anhydrous will metabolize to
Boric acid. Developmental toxicity has been demonstrated experimentally in animals.
Average fetal body weight per litter was significantly reduced. Malformations consisted
primarily of anomalies of the eyes, the CNS, the cardiovascular system, and the axial
skeleton. The most common malformations were enlargement of lateral ventricles in the
brain and agenesis or shortening of rib XIII (INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME ON
CHEMICAL SAFETY Environmental Health Criteria document # 204).
