Research Topic/ Title: Extent of Knowledge and Practices towards Effective Hand
Hygiene among Nursing Students in University of Mindanao

A. Description of the Project:


1. Rationale: This study aims to assess the level of Knowledge and
practices regarding hand hygiene among nursing students in University
of Mindanao. It also aimed to identify hand hygiene knowledge, self-
reported compliance, effective teaching and assessment methods, and
attitudes toward interventions promoting hand hygiene compliance
among nursing students.

2. Objectives of the Study:


2.1 General: The main objective of the study is to assess the
knowledge and practices of BSN students about the effective
compliance of hand hygiene and sanitation.
2.2 Specific: It aims to answer the following questions:
• Are the BSN students aware of the possible consequences on
noncompliance of proper hand hygiene?
• What are the possible after effect in neglecting proper hand hygiene?
• How can BSN students effectively adopt the proper hand hygiene?

3. Theoretical Framework: Theory of Five Moments Hand Hygiene and


Theory of Planned Behavior,

4. Methodology: Institution-based descriptive cross-sectional study was


used to assess the knowledge and practice of hand washing among
BSN students. The research locale is at the University of Mindanao,
Matina, Davao City. In conducting this study, structured self-
administered questionnaires were used to collect the relevant data.
The questionnaires contained closed and open-ended questions about

three different parts which included sociodemographic characteristics,


knowledge of hand washing, and practice of hand washing among
student nurses.
