These are the differences between ESL and EFL
No ESL
1. Most of the time, a native English speaker
teaches English to ESL students. Students
who are learning English as a second
language (ESL) often already know how to
speak English because it is so common in
their environment or community. This
means that students have been exposed to
English from a young age outside of school.
2. Students can learn English in a variety of
places because the environment or country
they lived in required them to speak the
target language (English) to get by. Most
formal education centers, like schools, use
English as one of the main languages they
teach in. English is used in real life, so
students can learn from their surroundings as
well as from school.
3. Due to the widespread use of the language,
ESL students have many opportunities to
use and improve their command of the
language. To that end, more resources are
available to help students of other languages
learn English.
4. Because English is used more often, ESL
students have a lot of chances to practice
and use the target language. English as a
Second Language (ESL) students usually
know English as their first language, which
makes it easier for them to learn English.
Also, a teacher of English as a second
language (ESL) is usually a native speaker.
EFL
Most often, a person who is not a native
speaker of English teaches students who
are learning the language as a foreign
language. Typically, the native tongue of
an EFL student is not English,
necessitating the instructor's introduction
of English as a foreign language.
English is only taught in schools and
other learning centers. English isn't often
used in schooling. EFL students can
study English in groups, books, and tours.
EFL students can't practice English
outside of school. Some EFL students can
study abroad where English is more
common.
Most places where EFL students live
don't speak English as their first
language, so they don't hear much or any
English around them. Because of this,
EFL students have less help to learn
English.
Students of English as a Foreign
Language (EFL) learn English so they
can talk to people who speak English.
This is usually for business or tourism,
not for everyday conversation. People
don't talk to each other in English as a
language. EFL students don't have many
options outside of the education center.
Because of this, EFL students have fewer
chances to learn English than ESL
students.
