TALKING ABOUT

THE FUTURE
Let’s learn how to use ‘will’, ‘may’, ‘might’ and the
Present Continuous when talking about the future!
01

FUTURE SIMPLE
USES OF THE FUTURE SIMPLE

We use the Future Simple (‘will’) to talk about…

● possibility in the future

It will be a nice day tomorrow.

I think Brazil will win the World Cup.
I'm sure you will enjoy the film.

● offers and promises

Tim will be at the meeting.

Mary will help with the cooking.
1
‘WILL’
We use the modal verb
‘will’.

start → will start

HOW DO WE
FORM THE
FUTURE SIMPLE? REMEMBER! 2
Modals act like auxiliary
verbs. They are always
used with another verb in
infinitive. They give
information about the
function of the main verb.
STRUCTURE

AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE INTERROGATIVE

We will go on holidays. We won’t go on holidays. Will we go on holidays?

S + will + V + C S + won’t (will not) + V + C Will + S + V + C?

‘Will’ is a modal, so it acts like an auxiliary verb. The main verb goes in
infinitive (without ‘to’).

❌ She will goes on holidays.

❌ We don’t will go on holidays..

ABOUT THE
FUTURE
LET’S TALK ABOUT THE FUTURE

They are coming to see us tomorrow.

We use ‘may’ or ‘might’...

● to express less certainty, when we are not sure about the future

I might stay at home tonight.

I may go to the cinema tomorrow.
PRESENT 1
CONTINUOUS
We use the auxiliary verb ‘to
be’ in the present + the main
verb in gerund (-ing).

am/is/are + V-ing

REMEMBER!
2
‘MAY’ & ‘MIGHT’

‘May’ and ‘Might’ are modal

verbs. Modals act like
auxiliary verbs. They are
always used with another
verb in infinitive.
THE FUTURE

100% PRESENT
● I’m visiting the doctor tomorrow.
