Description

• Defender Stasis LT (ISO 15) is a lightweight, environmentally friendly,

preservation fluid formulated to provide long term protection of subsea
equipment components and profiles. The fluid is environmentally
nontoxic, biodegradable, non-bioaccumulating, and non-sheen forming.
• Defender Stasis LT is classified as a subsea wellhead preservation fluid in
accordance with U.S. EPA NPDES GMG290000, with annual testing by an
EPA certified laboratory (test results available upon request). The fluid is
approved for direct discharge to sea from subsea oil and gas facilities.
• Defender Stasis LT is formulated with nontoxic base oils made from
renewable materials combined with environmentally approved additives
for optimum subsea equipment preservation. The fluid has a long shelf
life and long service life (6 year minimum) but will dissipate and
Defender Stasis LT
biodegrade rapidly if released to the environment (>60% within 28 days). in natural and blue colors
• Defender Stasis LT meets and exceeds regulatory requirements as an
Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) under the US EPA VGP,
OSPAR, EU Ecolabel, and other Ecolabel programs.
Application
• Defender Stasis LT is a low viscosity ISO 15 preservation fluid formulated for low pressure subsea wellhead
caps and subsea tree caps for long term installation, temporary abandonments, and permanently abandoned
wells. The fluid is also ideal for a wide range of other subsea equipment preservation uses as noted below.
• Defender Stasis LT is a lightweight fluid (S.G. < 0.93) and will float in a subsea well when contained by a
protective cap or similar barrier. The fluid is insoluble in water, seawater, water-based control fluids, brines,
other aqueous fluids, alcohols, and most alcohol-based fluids. Stasis LT has excellent water separation and
anti-foaming properties, ensuring that aqueous fluids will separate rapidly and are displaced downwards,
providing a blanket of preservation fluid at the top of the well bore.
• Defender Stasis LT has unique properties to protect steel and other metals from corrosion and degradation.
The base oils in Defender Stasis LT have naturally high polarity for metal surfaces which provide superior
wetting, vertical creep, and water displacement properties. The fluid will actively out-displace water,
alcohols, and most aqueous fluids, providing a protective film of preservation fluid to protect metal surfaces
from corrosion. The fluid is non-electrolytic to naturally inhibit corrosion and is rated as a dielectric fluid.
• Defender Stasis LT provides far superior corrosion protection compared to water-based control fluids and
preservation fluids, while providing naturally long life that will not deplete or become acidic like water-based
fluids. The fluid provides equal or better corrosion protection than refined petroleum oils.
• Defender Stasis LT is the first subsea wellhead preservation fluid to meet regulatory requirements for 24 hour
per day use in all offshore oil-producing countries worldwide. The fluid can be discharged from oil and gas
facilities directly to sea under U.S. regulations and the regulations of most offshore oil-producing countries.
• Defender Stasis LT is available in natural color (amber) or with nontoxic colorant (blue).

Benefits
• Defender Stasis LT Subsea Equipment Preservation Fluid protects subsea wellheads, subsea tree mandrels
and other subsea equipment from corrosion by providing the proper physical properties necessary for
distinct phase separation between the preservation fluid and seawater, with seawater and other aqueous
fluids displaced downwards. The fluid is highly inhibited against moisture and rusting in both fresh water and
seawater testing and will pass both A and B Sequences of the ASTM D-665 Turbine Oil Rust Test.
• Defender Stasis LT is ideal for a wide range of subsea equipment preservation applications, including
shipping, storage and wet parking, to protect the internal bores of subsea trees, subsea manifolds, jumpers,
flowlines, PLETs/PLEMs, subsea pumps, running tools, and similar subsea equipment.
• Defender Stasis LT is formulated with relatively low viscosity at seafloor temperatures (30°F to 40°F) to
minimize backpressure when injected into low pressure protector caps. The fluid is a very light oil at room
temperature. The fluid is soluble in most refined petroleum oils, crude oil, diesel, and most petroleum fuels
and solvents. The fluid will create a light, oily film to protect metal surfaces, but washes clean with
petroleum oils, light solvents, fluids with surfactant additives, or soap and water, leaving no residue.
• Defender Stasis LT is compatible with all common metals and nonmetallic materials in oilfield service,
including most elastomers, plastics and nonmetallic coatings. The fluid is more benign to nonmetallic
materials than most petroleum oils and water-based control fluids. The fluid is a much better for long term
preservation than water-based control fluids, which can attack nonmetallic materials under some conditions.
• Defender Stasis LT is exceptionally safe to use and dispense, with extremely low volatility and a high flash
point that provides excellent fire safety. The fluid has minimal toxicity in the event of personnel exposure,
and is rated as a negligible hazard and/or minimally toxic for all personnel ratings.
• Defender Stasis LT is a recyclable product that can be reprocessed to the original specifications of virgin fluid.
For equipment storage and shipping use, the fluid can be recovered after use, shipped backed to USI for
recycling, and then shipped back to the customer at significant cost savings compared to virgin fluid.
