1. Introduction
Hybrid Positioning is a module that can be purchased in MAGNET FIELD that allows easy
control of a GNSS instrument and Total Station in the same job through a simple tap of an
icon (Hybrid Switch).
With this function, a user can easily switch from using a Total Station to a GNNS receiver
and vice-versa saving a lot of time and allowing applications not available easily before like
setting up, automatic localization and automatic turning of a robotic instrument to the
prism(Hybrid Resection / Hybrid Lock).
Requirement to use this module is having a Robotic capable total station , a GNSS receiver
attached to the prism pole with adapter, and MAGNET FIELD on a field controller.

2. Required Items

1. Total Station w/ Bluetooth option

DS / PS / IS / QS
2. GNSS
HiPer SR / Hiper V / HiPer II / GR-5* / GRS-1
3. ATP1 / A7 prism
4. ATP1 Prism Adapter for Hybrid
5. Field Controller
FC250 w/RS-1B / FC336 / FC2600 / TESLA*
6. Magnet Field w/ GPS+Robotic+Hybrid Positioning module
7. Tripod
8. Lite Pole

* GR-5 and ATP1 combination is not recommended as GR-5 is too heavy for ATP1.It’s
recommended to use Topcon A7 prism and adapter for Hybrid positioning for those who like
to use GR-5 combination..
* The distance between controller and TS depends on the bluetooth class.

3. In Connect, connect to both GNSS and Total Station

and

4. After connection, you can now easily switch between GNSS and Total Station.
Tap the instrument icon to switch from GNSS toTotal Station anywhere you are in the Job.

4. Special Application
4-1. Hybrid Resection & Automatic Localization
If you select the Automatic Localization in the configuration for GNSS and Total Station,
you can use Hybrid Resection with the Auto Localization feature.
Hybrid Resection provids faster set up and localization for GNSS and Total Station.
1. Set the total station in any desired point. Take note that Hybrid Resection requires more
than 3 known points to have an accurate result.

3. Set the name of the point for resection and the instrument height of Total Station.

4. Set the prism target with GNSS on known point. In this case, the point is stn4.

5. Select the known point from the imported point list and set the prism height.

6. Measure by Total Station and save the point.

7. After measure by Total Station, the display automatically changes to GNSS measurmement.
Check the GNSS RTK status and then save the point.

8. Move the prism target with GNSS on next known point. In this case, the point is stn3.

9. Select the known point from point list and set the prism height. After that measure by Total
Station and GNSS.

10. After the first 2 points, it automatically calculates parameters including the scale factor.
Notice below you only have standard deviation on the height at 2 points. If you want to get
Northing and Easting deviations, you need to select Add and continue to measure points.

Continue to measure next point for

getting Sd N and Sd E.

Remove a point.

Re-measure the point

Finish the resection.

On example on the left, will give you
only Sd H.

In this case, select Add.

11. Move the prism target with GNSS on next known point. In this case, point is stn2.

12. Select the known point from point list and set the prism height. Measure by Total Station
and GNSS.

13. After measure, the display shows complete parameters and scale factor. If you want to
finish the resection, select Accept. If you want to continue for more redundancy, select Add.

In this example,we select Add for a fourth point.

In this case, select Accept.

17. After selecting Accept, it shows the calculated coordinate of OCC point. To accept the
results, tap the checkmark. Localization is automatically calculated right after.

The localization is automatically

you cannot change the coordinate system.

After automatic localization, the display

shows Localization.

4-2. Hybrid Switch
You can change between GNSS and Total Staion smoothly by tap of the instrument icon.

You can easily switch between GNSS and Total Station via quick icon as show above.

4-3. Hybrid Lock
The robotic total station can face to the prism automatically using the GNSS coordinates
detected. It works like the Remote Catcher as long as you have acceptable GNSS accuracy.

Tap Hybrid Lock icon in Total Station view. Take note this is available only when you are on
local coordinates.
