“TWIN FLAMES”

PROLOGUE

NARRATOR
In the times when the Greek Gods and mere mortals were allies; when festivals were held by kings to
honour the Gods; in times of prosperity and harmony; and when the crops were at full yield; the sun shone
brightly over the Southside Kingdom of Cosmos. It was bustling with excitement, as they prepared for the
upcoming festival to honour the God Apollo and welcoming the Kings and Queens of lands afar for this
week-long celebration of the great God of Sun and Fire.

EPISODE 1

[QUEEN emerges from CHORUS, finishing touches on her face/checking her outfit]

QUEEN ERINYES
Now my daughter, have all the preparations been made? You know I love everything to be in its full splendor.

PRINCESS MARIA
Yes mother, I’ve checked everything twice.

KING CORTES
I knew you would have, you have never disappointed me. You have always brought virtue to our family name.

CHORUS
Hark! The mighty God Apollo aproacheth!

QUEEN ERINYES
Don’t slouch girl.

PRINCESS MARIA
Yes mother.

[Enter APOLLO. QUEEN, PRINCESS and KING CORTES bow]

KING CORTES
Your excellency, Almighty God Apollo, I welcome you to our kingdom.

APOLLO
Thank you, King and Queen Cosmos.

QUEEN ERINYES
Your Excellency, my daughter Princess Maria, so fair and so bright.

PRINCESS MARIA
Your Excellency! [PRINCESS bows]

APOLLO
Fate smiles upon you, my child.

[Enter KING AJAX and PRINCE ALEX from Northside Kingdom]

KING AJAX
Hail Lord Apollo, welcome to our summer celebrations. This is my son, Prince Alex of the Northside
Kingdom.

PRINCE ALEX
Your Excellency, God Apollo of Sun and Fire. Please accept our humble offerings and sacrifices made in
your honor.

[PRINCE ALEX and PRINCESS MARIA exchange romantic glances]

APOLLO
May you grow to become a fine king, Prince Alex. Now if you will excuse me King Ajax and Prince Alex,
I have a few important things to say to Erinyes and Cortes.
 KING AJAX, PRINCE ALEX and PRINCESS MARIA
Yes Your Excellency.

[KING AJAX, PRINCE ALEX and PRINCESS MARIA Return to CHORUS]

APOLLO
Now Kingdom Cosmos, for the favor of your hospitality, I would like to bestow upon you, a token of my
gratitude for your unwavering faith and loyalty to the heavens.

KING CORTES
Thank you Your Excellency.

APOLLO
But you must remember to never ever give this to anyone else. This is for you and your kingdom, to keep
safe and treasure for years to come.

[APOLLO presents Anatole to KING CORTES]

Here I present to you O King Cortes and Queen Erinyes, the almighty Anatole. A power not shared with
mortals until now. Beware if it falls into the wrong hands, then doom shall fall upon your kingdom and
chaos will ensue.

[QUEEN ERINYES reverently bows and KING CORTES lowers his head for medal]

KING CORTES
Yes your excellency, I swear to protect it with my life.

APOLLO
I trust you Cortes, do not fail me.

[CHORUS formation of dancing and celebrating. A scream is heard, KING CORTES’ body is carried in on a stretcher, covered in
a shroud]
QUEEN ERINYES
My husband! My king! The love of my life! Now that you are gone how will I….THE ANATOLE IS
GONE. Find it!

[PRINCESS MARIA comforts QUEEN ERINYES, CHORUS searches for the Anatole]

PRINCESS MARIA
Oh who could have done such a terrible thing to my father?

[KING AJAX looks around nervously]

KING AJAX
I daresay, but I am merely speculating, that this could be the evil doings of Hades himself.

QUEEN ERINYES
What evidence do you have?

KING AJAX
Well… [nervously]

QUEEN ERINYES
Spit it out!

KING AJAX
Perhaps the King Cortes had some business with the underworld…

QUEEN ERINYES
Nonsense! My husband had no malice in him. After living with him for all those years, I believe I know
him best.
KING AJAX
We shall depart now to allow you the time to grieve. Come on son, we must go!

[PRINCE ALEX reluctantly leaves]

 PRINCESS MARIA
What now?

QUEEN ERINYES
[Sighs] I must seek my revenge.

EPISODE 2

NARRATOR
Once Queen Erinyes takes over the Southside Kingdom, she send out her emissaries and learns soon enough
that her husband was killed by King Ajax, for possession of the Anatole. As darkness fell upon this once
beautiful kingdom, it seemed like every day had been turned to an endless night, without rest and without
sleep. Doom had now prevailed over the Southside Kingdom and Queen Erinyes, staying true to her
reputation, was now plotting revenge, consumed by her own pain and suffering.

[QUEEN pacing downstage, PRINCESS MARIA scurries to keep up]

PRINCESS MARIA
Mother, you must stop going on like this, you haven’t eaten anything for days, you haven’t slept for
weeks…please, you must stop torturing yourself!

QUEEN ERINYES
Ever since that coward murdered your father, there has been war and devastation. Now, it is up to me to
seek revenge for what they have done. King Ajax must know the pain I feel after losing my husband.

PRINCESS MARIA
But Mother –

QUEEN ERINYES
Hush child! You shall be the one to kill Prince Alex! You shall take our revenge and get back what is
rightfully ours!

PRINCESS MARIA
But it’s not right to do so! King Ajax killed father not young Alex! I will not allow you to kill him!

QUEEN
Are you defying your mother and Queen? Get out of my sight!

[PRINCESS nods, visibly upset and leaves. ENTER APOLLO]

APOLLO
Why are you doing this to yourself Erinyes?

QUEEN ERINYES
Because I am full of hatred. Such disrespect to the Gods, to our Kingdom.

APOLLO
You really should hold court and seek a just and unbiased judgment.

QUEEN ERINYES
But he deserves more than death itself! He must suffer at the hands of Hades.

APOLLO
You must try and forgive, find the light within you.

QUEEN ERINYES
Forgiveness is weakness, I am not weak! If you will not help me seek my revenge, then I will call upon
Hades, Lord of the Underworld.

APOLLO
Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Beware if you keep going down this dark road, you may never be able to
escape it.
QUEEN ERINYES
[Screams] Hades!!!

 EPISODE 3

KING AJAX
A storm is rising from the Southside Kingdom. Seems like a frightful scene.

PRINCE ALEX
Father, you had no right to kill their King and take the medal. It’s either you return the Anatole and apologise
or live with the shame and guilt your entire life. Or worse, what if Queen Erinyes seeks her vengeance?

KING AJAX
Are you lecturing me son? And why would I return it? It has the power to sustain our kingdom for years. I
say, let her come, I am waiting.

PRINCE ALEX
You will regret what you have done!
[KING AJAX exits, enter MAID]

PRINCE ALEX
I can't believe this is happening. When there's supposed to be peace and harmony, there's destruction and
evil. Oh, how I wish…

MAID
Is there something wrong, Prince Alex?

PRINCE ALEX
Yes, there is. My father has become such a Tyrant. I don’t know what happened to him. Jealousy, greed
and power consume him.
MAID
Is there anything I can do for you? Maybe bring some water? Or food?

PRINCE ALEX
None of that but could you keep this a secret?

MAID
What secret?

PRINCE ALEX
I actually um…like that Southside princess, Maria. And I’m scared of what will become of her now that
our kingdoms are at war.

[MAID stays silent, shocked]

Could you maybe arrange a meeting with her for me? I just need to see if she is well.

MAID
You know if your father finds out about this, even worse Queen Erinyes, it could result in death. I hear
from the Southside whispers Queen Erinyes has made a pact with Hades. Hades has granted her the
powers of the Gods to take her revenge. We are no longer safe my Lord.

PRINCE ALEX
I need to know that she is safe and does not blame me for my father’s sins.

MAID
I will do what I can.

 EPISODE 4

[MAID and PRINCE ALEX meet PRINCESS MARIA just outside the kingdom. The QUEEN’s crow is sent to spy on them]

MAID
This way Alex. She should be here at any moment.

PRINCESS MARIA
What are you doing here?

PRINCE
I'm here to clear my name and reassure you of my personal allegiance.

NARRATOR
And so, the prince tells the princess everything about his father, how he is the one who killed the King and
stole the Anatole and all about his desire for power and dominance.

[CHORUS as crow spy caws, all three look up]

PRINCE ALEX
We must go, there are eyes and ears everywhere.
[Turns to PRINCESS MARIA]

You'll be okay, we’ll get through this together. Tomorrow I will send for you and we can escape to safer
lands, there we will be married, ending this bitter feud between our two kingdoms once and for all.

[PRINCESS MARIA, is left lost for words, she nods her head and they embrace.
MAID coughs]
MAID
We have to go.

PRINCE ALEX
Farewell Maria, until tomorrow my love. [Exits quickly]

EPISODE 5

NARRATOR
Erinyes’ spies report their findings to the now powerful Goddess and she sends assassins to foil their plan.
They murder the maid to stop her from assisting the young besotted prince. The Queen then orders the
assassination of King Ajax and the young prince.

[Tablot of MAID’s murder while QUEEN ERINYES points with her orders]

When Princess Maria learns about the Queen’s tyranny, she stabs her own mother in the back. As the Queen
dies in her daughter’s arms, she curses the Prince and Princess a life of failure and despair.

[Tablot of MARIA holding her dying mother]

However, the Great God Apollo intervenes to breaks this curse. He also offers King Ajax a chance to resolve
his betrayal of the God’s by trading his life for the sake of his son’s and their Kingdom. King Ajax accepts
and returns the Anatole to Apollo.

[Tablot of Apollo arms up and commanding the room, KING AJAX on his knees hand on heart for his sacrifice]

The prince and princess marry and unite the two kingdoms. Apollo bestows the Anatole on the young
married couple who continue to live in peace and harmony for decades to come.

[Tablot of couple hand in hand CHORUS gathers around them]

CHORUS

The saying we know, is; love is blind,

Son’s and daughter’s with Hearts entwined.
What once was stolen, is now returned,
Kingdoms united and lessons are learned.
