Good evening teacher and my friends and welcome to my presentation, today i wan’t to talk

about the topic “ Autoimmune disorders”

Firstly, What is Autoimmunity?

→ The breakdown of the immune system’s ability to discriminate between self and non-self;
the body’s immune system therefore mounts immune reaction (i.e. produce antibodies)
against self antigens with harmful effects to the individual

You can see this figure: Our immune system confuses our cells and foregin cells. This likes
be suicidal. (sooer/SI/dle)

And today, i will talk about “ 3 classic autoimmune disease”, They include:

Hashimoto’s Disease

Systemic Lupus erythematosus

Rheumatoid arthitis

The first, we’ll come to :

Hashimoto’s Disease Symptoms (HAH/shi/MO/to)

• It’s Autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland

• It Damage to the thyroid is mediated by producing autoantibodies against the thyroid
proteins –notably the thryroglobulins and thyroperoxidase
• Main symptoms consist of: Hypothryoidism-dry skin, intolerance to cold temp,
fatigue, weight gain.

We can have Lab finding:

- Hypothyroidism with bouts of hyperthryoidism (hyperTHYroidism)

- Testing for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
- Free T3, Free T4

The second disease is Systemic lupus erythematosus (Abbreviation is: SLE)

 Symptoms
- SLE-chronic autoimmune disorder that may affect the skin, and other organs
- Inflammation and B cell activation.
- Characteristic “butterfly rash” of the face
- Patient Also have “Joint pain and swelling”

→ This is the patient with butterfly rash

 Lab findings Tests used to diagnose SLE include:

Antinuclear antibody (ANA) panel

Anti-double strand (ds) DNA

Anti-Smith antibodies

We will explore 1 of these test, it’s Antinuclear antibody (ANA), this test have some features
that: “ĐỌc slide”

The last, Rheumatoid arthritis (ROO-muh-toid)

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder that can affect more than just your
joints.

Symptoms:

• Tender, warm, swollen joints

• Joint stiffness that is usually worse in the mornings and after inactivity

• Fatigue (fuh/TIG), fever and loss of appetite

⟹ You can see this image describing this patient has joint stiffness.

You can see joints from healthy to inflamed, and the cartilage is deposited. (duh-PO-
zited)

Lab finding include: …. “Slide”

Thank you, teacher and my friends, for attention and

listening.
