OSI layers

7-Application layer (Application Protocol Data Unit (PDU)) :

• Application services : ex Firefox - Email
• Service advertisement : ex Networked Printers

6-Presentation layer (Presentation PDU) :

• Encoding
• Encryption
• Compression

5-Session layer (Session PDU) :

To open channel connection with receiver.

4-Transport layer (Segment PDU) :

• Cut data into small pieces for easy transport.
• Put data in a header (TCP/UDP)
• Add to data (source port/destination port)

3-Network layer (Packet PDU) :

• Add to data (source IP/destination IP)
• Switching : packet switching or circuit switching
‫وهنا معناه انه بيحدد اذا كانت الداتا هتمشي اكتر من مسار او هتمشي فمسار واحد علي حسب الي فهمته‬
• Route discovery and selection
‫وده معناه انه بيحدد المسار الي هتمشي فيه الداتا‬
• Connection services (flow control/error control)
‫هنا لو المستقبل عليه ضغط عالي بيلجا لعمليه الفولو وبيعمل للحزم المرسله عملية حجز لحد ميقدر يبعت‬
‫او لو كان الضغط مستمر هيتم قطع ألتصال عن طريق أليرور‬
• Bandwidth usage is Baseband (LAN) or Broadband (WAN)
• Multiplexing strategy: send and receive more than signal on the same time and
the same cable.

2-Data link layer (Frame PDU) : It 2 sub layer

First sub layer is Media access control (MAC) :
• Physical addressing (MAC) : Add to data (source MAC/destination MAC)
• Logical topology
 • Method of transmitting data

Second sub layer is Logical link control :
• Connection services (flow control/error control)
• Synchronizing transmission
. ‫ودي عملية تزامن بتحصل بين الراسل والمستقبل عن طريق تايمر وكود بدايه وكود نهايه‬
• Ethernet type.

• Convert data to bits
• Determination the type of cable
• Physical topology
• Synchronizing bits
• Bandwidth usage
• Multiplexing strategy
