5 Senses

Humans have five basic senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and
touch. ... The sensing organs associated with each sense send
information to the brain to help us understand and perceive
the world around us. People also have other senses in addition

SENSE OF SIGHT is based on the transduction of light
stimuli received through the eyes and contributes to
visual perception. The visual system detects light on
photoreceptors in the retina of each eye that
generates electrical nerve impulses for the perception
of varying colors and brightness.

SENSE OF SMELL, sense of smell - the faculty
that enables us to distinguish scents. olfaction,
olfactory modality, smell. sense modality,
sensory system, modality - a particular sense.
exteroception - sensitivity to stimuli originating
outside of the body.

SENSE OF TOUCH, sense of touch - the faculty
by which external objects or forces are
perceived through contact with the body
(especially the hands); "only sight and touch
enable us to locate objects in the space
around us.

SENSE OF TASTE The gustatory system or sense
of taste is the sensory system that is partially
responsible for the perception of taste. Taste is
the perception produced or stimulated when
a substance in the mouth reacts chemically
with taste receptor cells located on taste
buds in the oral cavity, mostly on the tongue.

SENSE OF HEARING, or auditory perception, is
the ability to perceive sounds by detecting
vibrations, changes in the pressure of the
surrounding medium through time, through an
organ such as the ear. ... It is one of the
traditional five senses; partial or total inability to
hear is called hearing loss.
