Course Outline
Description: This course is designed to be an introduction to the metal shop for students with or without previous
experience. It will provide in depth knowledge of employability skills for industry jobs, an understanding of safe
shop practices, and basic metal work operations. These include hand tools, lathes, welding equipment, and creating
and interpreting plans and drawings.

WORK HABITS
Always on time, always productive, resourceful, responsible, follows instruction, works safely,
G displays maturity, respectful, considerate of others, cleans up, uses time wisely, always prepared for
class, etc. If I were your employer, everybody should work like you.
Performing to minimum expectations only, neither awesome nor wretched. If I were your employer, I

could put up with you until you found work elsewhere.
Frequently late/absent, argumentative, non-productive, defiant, disrespectful, not prepared for class,

unsafe, destructive, etc. If I were your employer, I would fire you.
Achieving an “A” does not guarantee a “G” work habit. It is possible to receive both an “A” and an “N”, or an “F”
and a “G”.
ABSENCES:
- Absences DO NOT excuse any assignments
- Shop time can be excused ONLY when:
o Leave me an email BEFORE the absence, OR
o A note, from home, is brought THE DAY you return
- It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to keep up with all missed assignments and quizzes.
- Missed shop time can be made up at lunch or after school, by making arrangements with the instructor.
