Lesson Title Riding the waves of trig functions

Students leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving, and
demonstrating competency in their learning goals, informed by the learning sciences

Integrated Technology This lesson will use a technology called Desmos. They will also use iPads.
Teacher will use smart board.
Type of Instructional Desmos uses drill and practice and instructional games to help students
Software understand math concepts. In my case students will do a card-sort and marble
slide to show their understandings of Trigonometric functions.
Software Feature Desmos has a function that allows the teacher to monitor/report student
assessment. It also had many ways of collaboration. Students can collaborate
in their classroom with peers and also take the tech home and work with those
around the world.

This Is the link to the demos that I created. The cool thing that demos does is
have an editor function. So I was able to find a template of what I wanted then
create my own problems that I thought would be beneficial.

Universal Design The activity that I have planned for my students multiple forms of
Rationale engagement. Students will complete tasks that are in forms such as, free
response, drill and practice, interactive and creative. My lesson also can use
multiple means of representation. Students can print of the card sorts and due
the physically if they are unable to complete it online. Also, students can flag
teachers with a ping if they have any questions. This allows the teacher to
create a new problem or explain terminology to the student. Finally students
can express there learning in a few ways. One of the being a microphone to
submit vocal responses. Another being typing answers. Students also have
the ability to create visuals for certain functions.
Lesson Idea As I go through the lesson, students will log onto their demos activity and work
through the lesson as a group. The teacher will stand at their computer and
pace the class. From their computer they can add commentary to the slides
the students are working on and also restrict students from moving onto
different sections of the assignment. This lesson was designed for a 55
minute class.

Student learning will be assessed by the activities that they complete using
Desmos. They are given feedback right after they submit their work. This
allows them to adjust their thinking and get to the correct answer. The final
project will differentiate for all learners by assessing their knowledge and
giving them problems accordingly. I will extend the student learning by
allowing them to post their functions/transformations to a webpage and
collaborate with their peers. This gives them an opportunity to check their
work while also collaborating with others. The lesson will be concluded by a
final share out. On the last slide students are asked to share one major thing
that they took away from the lesson. Then from those responses I will end
with a closing statement that addresses some of the items.
Design Reflection After designing this lesson, the activities that I have created will give students
an opportunity to learn the material a non-traditional way. They are getting the
chance to use technology and discovery rather than pencil/paper notes. Using
this lesson as an intro activity, this could be extended by having students
create their own graphs and functions and then having a neighbor solve them.
They could even share it to the whole class and we could solve them as a
group. I think it would be cool to have a class set of laptops for this activity so
the each student can take the activity home to work on it. I also think that if
given the opportunity, a Virtual Reality set would make this activity great.
