4AR-8 Construction Project Management 2

Project Management Life Cycle

1. Initiating - The initiation process evaluates the work ahead of time and conducts a
feasibility study which examines whether the proposed solutions align with the main
objectives set by the client. This is the process where the project will be defined
along with its goals, scope and resources. In addition this process determines the
different roles needed and it is the part where project managers are in constant
communication with the client and stakeholders and make sure that they are both on
the same page in regards to what the project is and what it intends to achieve.

2. Planning - In this stage, the project manager identifies the different scope of work
which will be then developed through a road map. This also includes the identification
of the resources needed, and how it will be obtained through a procurement plan.
Budgets, timelines, and milestones are established including the prediction of
possible risks, putting change processes in place and setting up communication
plans and protocols. It was also at this stage that initial meetings were being
conducted to coordinate with other people involved in the project.

3. Executing - The executing stage is the implementation of all the things planned
beforehand such as procedures, procurement, and methods pertaining to the project.
It is in this stage that communication plays a vital role when it comes to relaying
information and following orders and directions.

4. Monitoring/Controlling - This stage happens simultaneously with the execution

stage where in project outputs and performances are constantly monitored. In
addition, ensuring that the budget stipulated in the cost management plan as well as
the schedule and time frame of various activities planned beforehand should be
strictly adhered to. Checking progress and recording logs is essential in this stage in
order to keep track of things. Lastly, responses to risks and problems that may arise
during the stage are implemented in order to mitigate and lessen the impact on the
project as a whole.

5. Closing - The closing stage offers the final deliverables to the client which includes
final checking of deliverables in order to make sure that all project demands and
objectives are met. Conducting study in order to examine the lessons learned during
the previous processes occurs in this stage. Lastly, the termination of contracts is
signed as a proof that the project has been officially completed and fully released to
the client.
