I think that split in All India Trade Union Federation had affected solidarity of the trade union

movement and considerably weakened organised labour and its power of collective
bargaining. Realising the importance of unity, the Railwaymen’s Federation took initiative to
unify the AITUC and AITUF. In 1931, Trade Union Unity Committee was formed to bring
AITUC and AITUF together. Alternatively, a body with a new name was proposed. Thus, the
National Trade Union Federation was established in 1933.

The issue of union leadership is one of the most important issues the India TU is now
confronting. Politicians usually provided & controlled the supreme commander of the
national association as well as, in several instances, of the specific unions, whether they
operated at the factory or commercial scale. This was a logical outcome of party leaders'
dominance over TU. The political leaders are in charge of the TU daily operations & policy.
These leaders are now referred to as foreigners. These individuals are held responsible for
many of the negative aspects of the TU movements. Considering their function & value to the
TU, there is debate.

External authority has negative effects as well. First, external authority has contributed to the
socio-political splits within TU movement, proliferation of unions within the similar factory
or sector, and TU competition as a consequence of politicians' dominance in the country's
TU. Second, it is asserted that outsiders introduce unwanted factors, notably political ones,
into the management of TU operations. The most serious accusation levelled at the outsiders
is this one. No one has the right to criticise political opinions & connections of TU leaders.
The regulation of TU matters with a view on enhancing the chances of a specific
politicians or its final objectives is what is actually criticised. It is argued that TU are
institutions that ought to prioritise serving the immediate needs of employees over the long-
term restructuring of the socio-economic system in line with any certain philosophy.
