Thesis: Does the separation of two parents affect a child s behavior after the divorce? Cherlin, Andrew. Public and Private Families. An Introduction 6th ed. New York: McGraw Hill, 2010. Print Summary: Andrew Cherlin explains that as the child grows older his/ her attitude alters and the child begins to acts out. Cherlin gets info from researchers that state a short percentage of young adolescents display serious behavior problems .In the book the other researcher says that single mothers tend to argue with their child more rather than monitoring their behavior. An Psychologist Judith Wallerstein also studied some young adults and noticed that as the child does get older they still don t know how to be in a good relationship. They didn t see it as a child and don t know how to apply it to their own lives. Assess: This source is slightly different from my other source. This source is filled with research and reliable people but the other source is just the author s point of view. The information in this book is very reliable. It not only has a researcher giving information but it has a psychologist that s gives his studies. This source is biased. It does not only give one point of view but it gives all different perspectives. Reflect: This source fits into my research perfectly. It gives all the information that I need. I believe that the separation of two parents affects the child s behavior and in the book there are statistics that back up my thesis. This source can be put into my essay where I explain and go in

on the percentage of how many kids act out after a divorce. This source did not change any of my believes on my thesis. It helped me believe my thesis more.

Laiken, Deidre. Daughters of Divorce. New York: William Morrow and Company Inc, 1981.79-80. Summary: This book is about the author s whole experience she went through while her parents have divorced. She stated what happened before her parents was together and what happened after they separated. Laiken stated that it wasn t a good transition at all. She acted out at school and in public places. She thought that crying will get her parents back together, but it did make things worse. Assess: This is source is different from my other source. This source is one sided. It only gives the authors point of view while my other sources gives all different sides. This source is biased. This source is not reliable because not every child that goes through the divorce steps feels exactly like her. The author is only giving her thoughts and feelings. Reflect: This source would not fit into my research paper. Its not a helpful source at all. It gives great ideas but it s not something that s reliable. The source is one sided and gives her arguments and feelings but doesn t have anything to back her up. It doesn t help shape it. I would not use this source in my essay. This source did not change the way I think about my topic. I just need to find a better reliable source.
