eGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile App

Abstract
This study is related to an existing foreign study done in places like Malaysia with

their Myteksi, that stated the reasons on why some drivers and consumers uses Grab as

their sources of income and for consumers as their more efficient way on going from

place to place. The study entitled “eGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation

Service Mobile App” it is a system that provides the commuters the best experience in

terms of transporting using public transport in Dapitan City. The researchers included the

developmental process of the project which included the data gathering wherein the

researchers gathered information from the internet. After acquiring the gathered

information, they made through the analysis and started evaluating and designing the said

system. The researchers found out that by fusing other systems into one may produce a

system that may solve the manual eGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation

Service Mobile App. There were three identified transportation app as comparison to the

proposed system with features such as user friendly, hassle free, time saving, can be

installed on mobiles and easy to use interface in mobile. It is also identified that

eGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile App has one unique

features among other transportation app and it is that the user can automatically input

their location and their desired destination before sending the request. It is recommended

that the system be presented and approved to all commuters or users of this system,

maybe implemented after a through test and evaluation.

Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

Introduction

In 2012, Grab is originated in Malaysia as MyTeksi by Anthony Tan, which goal

is to transform transportation through modernize and innovative way with the help of

media technology (Cosseboom, 2015). This new technology enabled public

transportation like taxi services have been proven themselves to be the most hassle-free

option to their growing customer. Since it is raising higher income in Malaysia, the head

of Grab Company afterwards decided to broaden the scope of using ride-hailing services

in Southeast Asia wherein Philippines adopt Grab as a subservient of Myteksi and named

as GrabTaxi in August 2013 (Cooseboom 2015). Land Transportation Franchising and

Regulatory Board (LTFRB) who’s in charge of regulating the public transportation

includes Grab as Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) (Lee, 2018).

Forty six point seven percent of the Filipinos in the population of 106,651,394

choose TNVS as their primary mode of transportation (Abad, 2018). Since this idea was

implemented it shows how useful and helpful this kind of technology was. Mobile

devices are utilized to book a cab with just a click. It becomes transportation way easier

than before. Since we all know most of Filipinos use public transportation as their means

of transport in any occasion such as work and school.

This study is related to an existing foreign study done in places like Malaysia with

their Myteksi, that stated the reasons on why some drivers and consumers uses Grab as

their sources of income and for consumers as their more efficient way on going from

place to place. Grab offers transportation from cities ad on countryside places but in
2

places like Dapitan City where there are no Taxis so the current version of Grab will not

work in places like that. In places like Dapitan City wherein there are no Taxis but has its

own kind of public transportation like tricycle, this opens up opportunity to make a Grab

for tricycles. Instead of waiting for a tricycle to pass by which usually takes a long time

especially at night, why not use mobile phones to reach or book drivers. This will help

and ease the pain of waiting and also drivers do not have to roam around and look for a

passenger as they please. They now can wait and save gasoline from roaming around.

Since mostly everyone has its own mobile devices and internet this will make some

situation hassle-free.

The purpose of this research is to create an easier way of contacting public

transportation vehicle as their mode of transport by using android phones and internet.

This will make hauling public transport faster and easier. This is also to make finding

passengers for all tricycle drivers easier with less time and less gasoline consumption.

Conceptual Framework

This study is anchored the concept by Wiengdee entitled“An analysis of the

industry and business strategy of ride-hailing transport service in Thailand: A case study

of Grab business” by Wiengdee (2009), this research is about the analysis of the industry

and business strategy of ridehailing transport service in Thailand: a case study of Grab

business. Since Grab transport service is a business that makes people’slife more

convenient for riding experience in this digital era and continuously gains popularity for

using the service. Apart from traditional taxis or public transports that offer people for

public transportation, however, currently there is an alternative choice for passengers to

immediately call a driver to pick up through an on-demand ride-hailing application which

3

make a ride or a journey easier, for example, using Uber (US), Lyft (US), Grab

(Singapore), Ola (India), or DidiChuxing (China) application to hail a vehicle.

Therefore, the market for ride-hailing services has been arising rapidly. As

Prescient & Strategic (P&S) Intelligence Private Limited or P&S Intelligence conducted

a study showing that the revenue of global ride-hailing market was valued at $50.4 billion

in 2018 and is expected to reach $120.2 billion in 2024 which will increase around $69.8

billion, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13.0% during 2019–2024.

Whereas, in Southeast Asia, the revenue of ride-hailing and taxi market is valued at

$16,991 million in 2020 and is expected to attain an annual growth rate (CAGR 2020-

2024) of 6.9% which will contribute to a market volume around $22,202 million in 2024

(Statista, 2020).

Figure 1 shows the conceptual framework of the concept about the study. In this

study the user need a smartphone android/IOS device also a computer to access the

appand also an the device chosen need internet connection for them to access this app

and choose their needs of transportation look for available rider, add the rider to favorites

and give a rating or feedback. Setting their pick up and drop off location on the app and

time for pick up,the data the destination, time, and date including the user had inputted

will then be analyzed and collected it will be stored in the database using MySQL and

sends data that is collected to the tricycle driver’s mobile phones where they can accept

or decline the consumer’s request. The feedback will be reflected to the consumer

notification bar that indicates the request has been completely declined and to try to look

for another available rider process would still be the same. The rider that declined the

request will be removed from the queue to find more suitable riders in the area.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The application will make hauling for transport hassle free, time consuming and

will also provide jobs. This will also provide a breathing room for all tricycle drivers

because they don’t need to waste their gasoline just to find a passenger. The researchers

considered working on this study to find out if the app would be beneficial to most
9

consumers and tricycle drivers and if its effectiveness is enough to make this research

push through.

This study focuses on making motorcycle and tricycle transportation hassle-free

in certain small areas. The respondents of this study will be tricycle drivers and random

strangers that use these kinds of vehicles as their form of transportation.

This study only covers with in the vicinity of Dapitan City, where the most

common mode of transport is Tricycle which is the focus of the study. The results of this

study will be applicable mostly for the consumers and tricycle drivers.

Significance of the Study

The researchers wanted to provide easy access application for people that

frequently use tricycle for their transportation. The study provided enough knowledge for

people about tricycle transportation services using the application being presented. The

results of the study is deemed beneficial to the following:

Tricycle Drivers. The result of the study would help drivers have more

opportunity about sources of income by driving passengers to their desired destinations.

Review of Related Literature

In this chapter the researchers are able to elaborate and review the related studies

to this research. There are several studies that have been conducted regarding the

Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) in the Philippines and other countries.

The following literature are previous studies concerning the GrabCar as transportation

and GrabCar drivers.

Literature of the Study

A literature review is a comprehensive summary of previous research on a topic.

The literature review surveys scholarly articles, books, and other sources relevant to a

particular area of research. The review should enumerate, describe, summarize,

objectively evaluate and clarify this previous research.

Foreign Studies

GrabCar as Transportation

According to Pradhan (2019) Grab is a TNVS that allowed the transportation to

connect the drivers and riders through the use of smart phone application. Grab

allows a person to earn income by the use of one own car. Grab is able to

introduce different kinds of transportation service that they have. These includes the

GrabTaxi, GrabCar, GrabShare, GrabFood and Grab Delivery.

An article by Regidor (2018) explains that using private vehicles as public

utility vehicle under the TNVS like Grab are popular today as an alternative
12

transportation to help riders who are struggling with their mode of transit. It is

considered that driving as full-time job provides higher income, incentives and no

supervisions. As time goes by, people go for using it because aside from it is the most

trusted transportation around the world, the safety of the drivers and riders is

already proven (Napalang, 2018). According to (Ayres, 2018) ride-sharing gives an

affordable cost, saves travel time, and offers convenience and comfortable ride to the

Filipinos.

According to Creno (2015) he claimed that in the system of Grab application,

the route in going to the pick-up and drop-off destination of the riders is provided.

The cost of the entire trip and the arrival time of the riders is also stated in the system

(Creno, 2015). As stated by Ganesha (2018), GrabCar drivers are one of the trending

discourse topics in social media. She claimed that some GrabCar drivers have shown

misbehaviour which results to rude and unsafe perception of people to some GrabCar

drivers. However, the head of Grab Company Anthony Tan, promised for the

improvement of the behaviours not just the GrabCar Drivers but also every

drivers under his company (Chua, 2018). On the other hand, most of the GrabCar

drivers are still known to be considerate, nice, trustworthy and effective in the field

of the innovated way of transportation stated by Zurbano (2019). Lim (2017) stated

that some Filipino people wanted to be in the TNVS industry because they can

maximize their resources and they are the manager in their own working hours.

In addition, the income that they will earn will be depending to them. In Malaysia, Grab

has been very useful. GrabCar drivers can refer some of their colleagues to join them and
13

as a return they will get a reward. Grab driving is one of the most effective work

(Charles, 2018).

The most important factor influencing customers' motivation to use technology-

based self-service is time saving orientation (Meuter et al., 2003). When a person finds

himself lacking in time due to daily activities such as work and leisure activities, one will

look for opportunities to save time (Bashir et al 2015, Settle &Alreck, 1991). Many

people dislike the effort of looking for food and waiting for food at restaurants in recent

years due to their hectic lifestyle. They would prefer that food be delivered to them

quickly and without much effort (Yeo et al., 2017). One of the major contributory factors

influencing people's behavioral intention to purchase online is time savings (Khalil,

2014). Shopping online saves time because customers do not have to leave their current

location to make a purchase. According to Sultan and Uddin (2011)'s research, time

savings has a positive effect on behavior intention toward online shopping. The

researchers discovered that many people believe that online shopping takes less time

because they do not have to waste time traveling out as opposed to traditional offline

shopping (where they need to be physically present at the storeAccording to Alreck and

Settle (2002), traditional modes of offline shopping take more time than online shopping

because customers do not have to travel out, deal with traffic, find parking, and wait in

line to pay. Alreck et al. (2009) discovered in another study that many consumers wish

they could save more time. Consumers prefer to save time in order to complete other

pressing tasks as soon as possible. Ganapathi (2015) and Zendehdel et al (2015) found

that time savings had a significantly positive effect on behavioral intention to adopt

online shopping. Based on the evidence presented above, it is possible to conclude:

14

Time saving orientation positively influence behavioural intention of online food

delivery services.

Convenience Motivation (CM)

Rapid urbanization has created a situation in which city dwellers have limited

time, particularly during the weekdays, to prepare their own meals or even eat at

restaurants. As a result, they tend to eat more fast food or skip meals entirely (Botchway

et al, 2015). To meet the needs of their customers and increase business sales, many

restaurants began to develop new business models by providing OFD services to

customers. Convenience in the context of OFD services is defined as the perceived time,

value, and effort required to facilitate the use of the OFD system. According to research,

convenience is viewed as an ongoing barrier that influences future intentions (Seiders et

al, 2005).This means that the system needs to achieve a certain desired level of

convenience before it could encourage future intention. Motivation is also important as it

will affect the attitude and willingness of customers. Once the convenience level meets

the expectation of customers, they would be motivated to use that system continuously.

Jiang et al. (2011) stated that convenience is one of the principal motivations for users to

adopt electronic technology because customers must be convinced of their value before

they are willing to use this technology. As companies introduce new electronic

ordering and delivery system to the public, the convenience in using it spur customers to

use it. Kimes(2011) mentioned that users have the capability to utilize the new, easy and

safe electronic technology. Allowing consumers to place order and receive the foods

anytime and anywhere, customers would prefer to do online food purchase rather than

store purchase. Making online takeaway have many advantages such as the avoidance of
15

poor customer service (Chen & Hung, 2015) and the prevention of in-store traffic

(Katawetawaraks& Wang, 2011). Convenience in time and effort are important

attributes for consumers to adopt the OFD services (Collier &Kimes, 2013).

Convenience-oriented shopper would always take time and effort into consideration

(Zhou et al., 2007). They would prefer to shop at home to minimize the time, avoid

crowded market and initiate the transaction at anytime and anywhere. Thus, by using the

online purchase system, the location is irrelevant to them during purchasing (Chen &

Hung, 2015). Thus it can be hypothesized that:

Convenience motivation positively influences behavioural intention of online

food delivery services.

Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU)

PEOU is the degree to which an innovation is perceived to be easy to understand,

learn or operate (Rogers, 1962). Similarly, Zeithaml et al. (2002) stated that PEOU is the

degree to which an innovation is not difficult to understand or use. Davis (1989) and

Davis et al. (1989) reaffirmed that the degree to which the respondents believe that they

could use the particular technology with minimum efforts could be considered as PEOU.

PEOU according to Consult (2002) is the ability of respondents to experiment with

innovative technology and where they could evaluate its benefits easily. It has been

recognized as an important element to change the attitude and behavioural intention of

consumers and establish the acceptance of technology usage among consumers (Cho

&Sagynov, 2015). The effect of PEOU ultimately will affect consumers’

behavioural intention in online environment and has significant positive effect on

purchase intentions (Cho &Sagynov, 2015). Chen & Barnes (2007) also discovered that
16

PEOU significantly affect the adaptation intentions of customer. To encourage more

people to use a new technology, it is suggested that companies develop systems that are

easy to use (Jahangir & Begum, 2008). Study by Chiu & Wang (2008) discovered that

PEOU positively affect the continuance intention of customers in the context of Web-

based learning. The behavioural intention to use any online services is dependent upon

the perception of the potential adopters, which could be favourable or unfavourable.

Ramayah& Ignatius (2005) found that customers are unwilling to shop online if the

PEOU is hampered by certain barriers such as the long download times of the Internet

retailer websites and the poorly designed websites. Thus, it is imperative that the design

of OFD websites to be clear and understandable so that it will smoothen customers

experience to make an order easy. Besides, Venkatesh& Davis (2000) reaffirmed that

the extent ofcustomers PEOU of the technology will lead to behavioural intention. Based

on the discussion above, it can be hypothesized that:

Perceived ease of use (PEOU) positively influence behavioural intention of online

food delivery services.

Local Studies

According to Paronda (2015),Uber and GrabCar are popular modes

oftransportation conceptualized and developed abroad and later introduced to Filipino

commuters. The service is classified by the Department of Transportation and

Communications (DOTC)under what they defined as Transportation Network

Company(TNC). The rise of these transport modes has a direct impact to asegment once

dominated by conventional taxis as these two became popular in the market in terms of

the premium services they provide to riders. The main objectives of this study are the
17

following: a) to determine the characteristics of TNC users as well as the attributes of

TNC operators in Metro Manila; b) todetermine the perception of commuters and

operators on UberandGrabCar; c) to determine the role of Uber&GrabCar in

ourtransportation sector and sustainable transport in Metro Manila;and d) to formulate

recommendations for TNCs as well as forimproving conventional taxi services.

Synthesis

From all of the literature that the researchers have gathered from different authors

and their respective studies, in the study conducted by Regidon (2019) wherein he

claimed that Grab is popular today because it provides convenience to the riders in

their mode of transit. Moreover, Pradhan (2019) found out that the use of technology

evolved the labor of the drivers and the riders. In the study of Napalang (2018),

the safety of the drivers and riders is proven that results for the TNVS became the most

trusted mode of transportation. With the use of mobile technology, route, value of the trip

and the arrival time are provided by the GrabCar drivers through the mobile application,

Grab (Creno, 2015). As stated by Ganesha (2018), although some GrabCar drivers

have misbehavior which results to rude and unsafe perception of riders.

Meanwhile, Zurbano (2019) affirmed that GrabCar drivers are still known to have a

positive behavior. For the time being, Charles (2018) aid in a study that there are a lot of

benefits to consider of being a GrabCar driver.

The previous studies that the researchers gathered only supplements data about

Grab, GrabCar Drivers, GrabCar as transportation, Time Saving Orientation,

Convenience Motivation and Perceived Ease of Use. The researchers will be focusing on

tricycle riding, transportation and delivery services to further the results in their study.

The researchers used constructive and action research methods. According to

Kasanen et al., (1993) that there are two research methods are used extensively in the

creation or application of new computing and information technology approaches for use

in differing domains: constructive research and action research. The constructive research

method is a systematic approach that enables the purposeful creation of methods,

modules, tools, and techniques that have applicability well beyond the case study that

motivated their creation. It is a research paradigm widely used in computer science,

mathematics, operations analysis, and clinical medicine. The focus is on the construction,

with theoretical demonstration as well as practical implementations as valid outcomes of

the research process.

Action research, as the name suggests, involves taking action, evaluation, and

critical reflection Koshy et al., (2011). Within the context of computing and information

technology research, it refers to taking the action of introducing a computing and

information technology solution then evaluating and reflecting on its value. Action

research has been demonstrated in trans disciplinary research with its participatory and
19

collaborative focus used as a driver for the interaction between many disciplines along

with the broad context of taking action on the broad transdisciplinary innovation

Djanibekov et al., (2012).

Research Environment

Dapitan, officially known as the City of Dapitan, is a 3rd class component city in

the province of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a

population of 85,202 people. Dapitan City is most well-known for being the place of

exile of Philippine national hero, Jose Rizal, and has plenty of historic sites for visitors to

explore over a weekend. This is very popular to all tourist because of its beautiful views

and landmarks. Its primary mode of transport for the tourist to tour the place is tricylce. A

very affordable and very reliable mode of transport, also often use by the people in

Dapitan City in their daily lives.

The eGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile App is

intended for all passengers with the intent to make finding transportation easier. This also

helps drivers to provide services quickly. It provides more opportunity to the unemployed

individuals.

Project Development Process

The project development process covers a range of activities extending from

identification of a project need to a finished set of contract plans and to construction. It is

also defined both with a project life cycle and system development life cycle during

which different activities occur. The Project Development Process also refers to a logical

sequence of activities that aims to accomplish the project’s goals or objectives. It consists
20

of events which are necessary to complete a project. The System Development Life Cycle

is used to develop and maintain information system.

Figure 11 presents the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Each process is

connected to each other by an arrow and each number from 1 to 7. Its starts with Planning

where the researchers plan and decides if what kind of study they are going to implement

as well as ideas that are necessary in creating a study. Second is Data gathering the

researchers gathered information in the internetthat can be implemented in the study. The

requirements Analysis sets and configures the software and hardware requirements

needed by the users. After having all information gathered and analyzed, the researchers

design the proposed system.

While in the design process, they started developing the proposed system this is

where the researcher started coding to create the proposed system. During the coding of

the proposed system researcher also started the testing and a thorough evaluation, this is

to identify bugs, error and adjustments of the system to ensure that the proposed system

works smoothly for the better experience. The testing was also done after everything is

working to ensure the usefulness of the system. After testing and ensuring that the system

is effective and done this is where the researcher implemented the study. Researcher also

documented the process and progress of the proposed system until it was finished this is

to ensure that every important detail was recorded. Each step was verified by the

researchers for the correctness of the output and its function performed by the software.

Maintenance the researchers need to do some weekly or monthly maintenance on the

propped system to make sure everything is running smoothly without any bugs

throughout the process.

22

Data Gathering

To expand the researcher’s knowledge about creating a functional and acceptable

system they used books, journals, internet resources and other existing researchers who

compose articles related to the study they created. The researchers also retrieved

information from the selected respondents that uses tricycle as their primary daily

transport going from their place to school, works or any other places. The researchers

also retrieve information from the drivers on their thoughts about the system and some

tourist that used tricycle in visiting places. The data are all combined to come up with the

overall idea relating to the creation of the system. The necessary interpretation and

analysis are done. The other quantitative data for this research will be obtained through

the use of an online survey questionnaire made with the use of Google forms and

circulated through the internet. The survey is made up of appropriate questions adapted

from relevant studies andquestions devised by the researchers. The following are the

equipment that researchers used to collect data: Interviews and surveys (provide

invaluable insight about the case study) and web searching (searching on the internet to

find a wide range of information and learning opportunities).

Requirements Analysis

After organizing the data, the researchers focused on eGrabMo: A Community-

Based Transportation Service Mobile App using Block chain Protocol Data Security. The

researchers reviewed all of the requirements in order to evaluate all of the study's needed

and probable outputs. The systems requirements are as follows:

A. Hardware Requirements
23

 Computers / Laptop – a programmable electronic device electrical device that

manipulates data or information. It can store, retrieve, and process information.

B. Software Requirements

 Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit

 Server Application: Xampp, andNavicat Premium

 Internet Browser: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome

Designing or Software Architecture

Software architecture reveals a system's structure while concealing

implementation specifics. The interaction of the parts and components inside a system is

also a focus of architecture. Software design digs further into the system's

implementation aspects.

Project System Design

Systems design is the process of specifying software and hardware architecture,

components, modules, interfaces, and data in order for a system to meet a set of well-

defined operating criteria. Modeling, analysis, synthesis, and optimization are all part of

the system design process.

Dimensions, forms, materials, and data processing structures are all design

features. Formal expressions or formulae, drawings, diagrams, tables of metrics with their

values and margins, patterns, algorithms, and heuristics are all examples of design

enablers. The need to structure the pieces that make up a system arose as a result of its
24

complexity. It should include a high-level overview of why the new system was

established, as well as what the new system is meant to replace and how it was designed.

System Flow Chart

Figure 14 shows the system flow chart. A Flowchart is a type of diagram that

represents an algorithm, workflow or process, showing the steps as boxes of various

kinds by connecting them with an arrow. It is a generic tool that can be used to define a

range of processes, including manufacturing, administrative or service operations, and

project plans. This diagrammatic representation illustrates a solution model to a given

problem. To illustrate this symbols are used. They are connected together to show what

happens to data and where it goes. The basic ones are selecting two types of user they

will choose between Driver or as a commuter, user would input their personal details

creating customers profile and details that determines the users account. After having an

account it goes to the customer’s choice where the user inputs the detail of their transport

request including their desired destination together with their location and time for pick

up. The user will sendtheir request to the chosen driver. After receiving the request, the

driver will decide if he will accept the request depends on his availability. If the request

of the user got decline the information will be notified back to the user who requested the

service this process will be save in the database, this will inform the user that he/she

needs to input another request to other available drivers the process will be the same, the

driver that declined the transaction will be removed from the queue. If the transaction

was successful, user will receive a notificationand will wait for the requested driver to

arrive. After the ride the customers will have an option to leave a feedback for the rider

and to rate the overall experience.

Use Case Diagram

Use Case Diagram is a simplest presentation of a user’s interaction with the

system depicting the specification of a use case. A Use Case Diagram‖ can portrait the

different types of a user of a system and the various ways that they will interact with

system. As seen, in figure below, it shows that ―Use Case Diagram‖ has two actors.

These are the consumer and the tricycle driver, consumer will request a ride and tricycle

driver will accept or reject the request. The admin also can add, delete, search and even

update the proposed system.

Activity Diagram

Activity Diagram is one important diagram in UML to describe dynamic aspects

of the system. Activity is basically a flowchart to represent the flow form one activity to

another activity.

The figure 18 describes the flow of the system. The flow of the diagram starts

with the user’slogin in to the app where they submit their booking details, location and

their desired destination and this will be received by the driver. The driver is the one who

will accepts or reject the request.

Figure 20 shows that the search results of this guide provides everything for the

user need to know about data flow diagrams, including definitions, history, and symbols

and notations. For finding the ways in this figure it uses defined symbols like rectangles,

circles and arrows, plus short text labels, to show data inputs or the outputs, storage

points and the routes between each destination. Users’ info use for the traveler’s

information to know where the user supposed to go. The map result indicated in this

figure shows that the user location and their destination will appear to the traveler’s plan

which is the store data.

Entity Relationship Diagram

32

An Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) is a model that identifies the concepts or

entities that exist in a system and the relationships between those entities. An entity is a

piece of data object or concept about which data is stored. There are so many group of

data illustrated in each of the ERD figure and represented by a column and they are called

database tables. Data fields also highlighted with the different colors are the indexes used

to connect related data to the different tables in conjunction to every movement of data.

The projected lines serve as the connector between tables by means of its indexes.

`Entities link up each other according to the relationships between the researchers

or how the user interacts with each other. Relationships are sometimes referred to as

cardinalities, which describes the interactions numerically but let's simply call them

relationships and traditionally developers spend a lot of effort in saving and loading

objects between the memory.

Figure 21 shows the Entity Relationship Diagram of the eGrabMo: A

Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile App in terms of its connectivity of

different database table through its entity and related fields. ER Diagrams are commonly

used to design and troubleshoot relational databases. At first glance on Entity

Relationship Diagram it looks very much like a flowchart. It has specialized symbols, and

the meanings of those symbols that make it unique. In ERD diagram the researchers

should visualize how the information of a system produced is related. The researcher’s

should identify the entities that the users. An entity is nothing more than different tables

and rectangular with a description of something that the researchers system stores

information about. The Data fields highlighted with different lines are indices that used to
33

connect related data to the different tables in conjunction to every movement of the

dataeGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile App.

The first entity is the user which contains the attributes such as Emp_User as the

foreign key of the user. The data fields is the location and the destination of

The second entity is the Emp_Customer_Request which contains attributes that the

customer wants a transport.

Third entity is the Emp_Driver which contains the driver’s details, availability

and the decision making. This will tell if the Driver is available for transport.

Respondents of the Study

In every research study, respondents are highly needed because their response

will be the basis for evaluating the system in terms of its functionality and etc. The

researchers have been invited people to participate in a particular study and have actually

taken part in the study. This definition applies to both qualitative and quantitative studies.

There were Fifteen (15) total respondents of the study and were classified into three (3)

groups of evaluators. The first group comprises of the five (5) Tourist, the second group

comprises of six (5) commuters, the third group comprises of the five (5) drivers in order

to strengthen the effectiveness of the system.

Statistical Tools and Treatment

The weighted mean will be used to measure the functionality, reliability, and

usability of the eGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile App.

Figure 22. Formula for Weighted Mean

Research Instrument

There are two sections to the instrument that is used to collect data for the study.

The first section is based on research. The second section is based on the ISO/IEC 9126

standard quality model, which determines the functionality, reliability, usability,

efficiency, portability, and maintainability of a product.

Validation of the Research Instrument

By using ISO/IEC standard quality model of questionnaire, the researchers have

to confirm the validity of the questionnaire. This is to insure the quality of the instrument

used is valid and precise. Validation studies help researchers identify the errors that exist

when studying opinions and behaviors so that these errors can be minimized or

eliminated, and research studies can obtain more accurate and valid results. The

completed questionnaire is then given to the research/thesis supervisor for editing,

36

recommendations, and improvement. It also needs to be forwarded to an expert in the

selected subject for feedback and confirmation.

Coding

The analyzed data will be encoded as commands in coding to make the program

and instructions, thus, data, writing code is similar to writing a set of instructions because

it informs a machine what to do, it will be translated into computer commands and

instructions that will run as system software of the proposed study after the analysis in

finding algorithms that will suit the need of the current problem.

Software Testing and Procedure

While making the system, the testing method will be adopted. Both manual and

computerized processes will be run together until in time the ― eGrabMo: A

Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile Apps observed to be accurately

running through its different method and strategies. Traditional hailing of transport

processes are simple, but new technologies are now available in our time, so proponents

will introduce each of the observers to the fact that computer technology is more

powerful in today's age. The outcome of this proposal will decide whether the study

continues or not.

1. Check the data that are used in the system if it is necessary.

2. Set up the system if it is working properly.

3. Use similar software testing procedures as the integration test.

4. Confirm that system test achieves system test objectives.

37

5. After checking the study, the researchers will conduct the evaluation about the system

software.

In order to make a qualitative interpretation of the result the researcher will use

five-point Liker scale and a range of scores is used as shown below. Each respondent will

be asked to rate the study according to the criteria created by researchers.

Procedure for Evaluation

This research may be completed with the use of tests and evaluations. The

proponents think that no program can be adopted without first conducting thorough

study, testing, and evaluation. The procedure can assist researchers in achieving their

objectives for the precise outcome. Each responder will give the study a score based on

the researchers' criteria.

Functionality

The existence of a set of functions and their stated qualities is determined by a set

of attributes. The functions are those that fulfill a set of users, either explicitly or

implicitly. It is the property of being useful or having a practical use. Functionality refers

to a use or group of purposes for which something is created, such as computer software,

hardware, or an electronic device, the usefulness of something is its functioning, or how

well it does the task at hand. A collection of inputs, behavior, and outputs are used to

describe the function. Calculations, technical details, data manipulation and processing

and other particular capabilities that describe what a system is expect to deliver and

achieve are examples of functional requirements. The tasks that a computer, software

program, or electronic device can perform.

38

Range of Mean Descriptive Rating

and system responds inquiry of the end-user but it does not

satisfy the end-user.

1.00-1.80 Not Functional – Processing does not generate response to the

end-user.

Reliability

Reliability is a system's ability to execute its needed function under specified

conditions at any time—with a lengthy mean time between failures. Any computer-

related component that consistently functions according to its specifications is said to be

reliable. The scope of an experiment, test, or the system's measurement technique

determines the system's quality or condition of reliability.

error on the level of security.

1.81-2.60 Less Secured – System generate data but its security shows

errors

1.00-1.80 Not Secured – System is not secured.

41

System Implementation

Parallel adoption procedure will be one strategy employed by the researchers to

elicit certain information. It is a system transition approach in which a new system

gradually takes over the functions of an older system while both systems operate at the

same time. This conversion occurs when the old system's technology has become

outdated, necessitating the installation of a new system to replace the old one.

Sampling Design and Techniques

The instrument which was utilized in gathering data in the study composed of two

parts. The first part was research-made. It dealt with the demographic profile of the

respondents.

The second part was patterned after the International Standard Organization

ISO)/IEC 9126 standard quality model which determine the functionality, reliability,

usability, efficiency, portability and maintainability of the newly developed and designed

eGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile Apps.

The researchers used the purposive sampling method in selecting the respondents

for this study. Purposive sampling, also known as selective or subjective sampling, is a

type of non-probability sampling in which researchers pick people from the public to

participate in their surveys based on their own assessments. To correctly pick and
42

approach eligible participants using the purposive sampling method, researchers must

have previous information about the purpose of the study.

The weighted mean was used to measure the effectiveness of the eGrabMo: A

Community-Based Transportation Service Mobile App in terms of functionality,

reliability, and security. It uses Likert's 5-point scale which shows the following range of

values.

Calendar of Activities

Table 2 reflects the activities involved in making the study, including the time

frame for each activity the proposed system process. The researchers started planning of

the proposed system phase on April 12-13.The researcher startedgathering data from

April 13 until June 8 where in the researchers gathered information that are related to the

proposed system. Data gathering is continuous despite what phase because of new

information can be added during all the phases. The analysis of the requirements started

on the same day they gathered data and paused in the 4 th of May. Designing stage was

done on the whole month of May and continued until the 1 st week of June. Development

of the proposed system was continuous since there are a lot of things need to be added

and needs to be fixed, stability and reliability of the system. Testing was also done

throughout the development of the proposed system. Implementation was done after the

development of the system and all the data are gathered and documented. Documentation

it is done the same day as the implantation documenting some important data that will be

needed to make some improvements on the proposed system, gathering some stats bugs

or any other hindrances in the future. Maintenance also been done where documentation

been made, is to make sure everything is working and to polish some features and
43

suggestions for future purposes. All this processes are essentials in developing the

proposed system.

This chapter presents the solution or detailed explanation and discussions of the

specific problem of the study entitledeGrabMo: A Community-Based Transportation

Service Mobile App.

Problem 1: What is the current transportation app in Dapitan City?

Hauling transport for those who usually used public transport as their mode of

travelling around Dapitan City is a struggle. It takes a lot of time especially during at

night where only few available tricycle. As of now there is no solution to this problem

and there is no transportation app for this.

Problem 2: What Transportation App can be developed and its processes involved to

enhance the transportation system in Dapitan City?

The proponents design a transportation app intended for Dapitan City for the

enhancement of transportation system within the vicinity.

The following are the processes and algorithms for the proposed system.

ALGORITHM:

For the User:

 The design is compose of Home, Book, Messages

 The Homepage shows the fields of log in such as User_Id and password.
45

 The Book section is where the user or the customer input the details of the

transaction and choose and book a transport.

 The messages section is an interface wherein passengers used to view statusof

their request they sent to the nearest driver, was accepted or decline. It is a section

where notifications for the approval and disapproval are stored.

Figure 24: User Flow Chart

46
