POSITION SYNOPSIS:
The purpose of this role is to support the objective of
the South32 Corporate Affairs team to be a responsible
and trusted partner by contributing to the socio-
economic development of areas where we operate for
mutual benefit. The purpose of the role is to design,
deliver, monitor and evaluate local economic
development projects that address local needs, create
and/or increase household incomes, complement
government development plans, align with the
Sustainable Development Goals) and support
operational objectives for long term sustainable
development of the region.
REQUIREMENTS:
Serious contenders will have
Degree/BTECH/National Diploma Economics, Social
Sciences, Sustainability or related discipline focused on
local economic development with a minimum of 10
years’ experience in developing and executing local
economic community development projects, especially
SLPs for mining operations, preferably in the Northern
Cape;
In depth knowledge management capabilities to bring
innovation and best practice to local economic
development projects is essential;
In depth knowledge of SDGs and implementing projects
to align with these indicators is essential;
Written and spoken English and Setswana is essential;
High level business writing and Computer literacy in MS
Office Suite is essential.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Identify opportunities for economic development
a projects in local and regional communities, with a
particular focus on SDG 8 – Decent Work and
Economic Growth;
Develop projects that align with local government
development plans and business priorities that support,
community enterprises, , agriculture, water and micro-
entrepreneurship initiatives and livelihoods;
Execute economic development projects on time,
budget and quality including adhering to required
governance structures;
Monitor and evaluate projects as per South32’s Social
Performance Standard and report outcomes on a
monthly, quarterly and annual basis;
Develop, execute and coordinate Stakeholder
Engagement Plans;
Ensure compliance with all anti bribery and corruption
standards;
Ensure all project documentation is kept up to date and
access in the departmental shared repository;
Attend engagements with local and district communities,
and provincial and national when required.
