Title of the study: Social Media in Social Organization
b. Methodology employed in the study The study's objective is to discover a response to the question "Do social media users believe in social media's role and importance in social action and social organization? An online questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. A literature review was undertaken during the questionnaire formulation phase, and similar studies were evaluated. The study's research population consisted of Facebook users in Turkey. The study's sample is convenience incidental sampling, which is based on the researcher's selection of a piece of the universe in any way depending on the specified sample size (Arlı & Nazik, 2001: 75). Due to different constraints, this sampling procedure chose conveniently accessible and viable units of population. Turkey has over 48 million active social media users, according to the Digital in 2017 Global Overview Report. In accordance with the population and sample size formulation that can be represented with 0.95 reliability and 0.05 sampling error, a sample size of 384 people for a population of one million or more has been recommended (Yazcolu & Erdoan, 2004: 49). Taking these data into account, as well as the probability that not all surveys may be returned, a sample of 500 Facebook users was identified. Surveys were distributed to the researchers' friend lists on Facebook. 448 surveys were returned with responses. As a result, the research sample may be considered sufficient. Data were obtained from Facebook users using a survey that contains of a total of 11 questions. The study was conducted from March 6 to March 13, 2017. It took roughly 15 to 20 minutes to answer the questionnaire. The preliminary survey was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the material and the sufficiency for the analysis of 10 Facebook users. Participants responded to questions regarding their demographic information (such as age and gender) as well as their Internet usage. They were asked to evaluate 13 statements about the role of social media in social organization, such as "Social media are platforms where opinions on social issues can be freely shared," "Social media empower democracy," and "I believe that organized groups through social media will be permanent." This was to be done using a five-point Likert scale from “1=strongly agree” to “5=strongly disagree”. Finally, it was asked “what is the first example that came to mind about the active use of social media in social organization?” Facebook is a popular social networking platform in Turkey, as it is in many other nations throughout the world. Facebook has been used to mobilize people to join in protests all around the world. Facebook makes it simple to create social groups. Facebook users and their social networks give a readily accessible and immediate critical mass. Due to the capacity of users to quickly establish and maintain large networks, Facebook appears to be positioned to enable online involvement since its feature set (e.g., the "newsfeed" and user "wall") operates as mechanisms to support the individual's participation. Popular Facebook applications allow anybody with similar interests to become a "fan" or "group" and engage in discussion boards and discussions. Facebook-specific study has explored the network's application in the development of social action and online communities and discovered good results (Ellison et al., 2006). Facebook is seen to be a good candidate for the study for the reasons stated above. c. Key findings of the study, conclusion and recommendations Individuals attempting to sustain their lives in society talk within the context of relationships. These relations, however, are characterized by the structures and institutions that they have previously constructed. This communication-based structure is, of course, dynamic and subject to constant modification. Nowadays, it is critical to investigate social media as one of the variables influencing social change or social structure. Social media, which provides users with an interactive environment by sharing information, ideas, images, and so on, differs from traditional media in several ways, including its high speed, low cost, participation, interaction, removal of time and space borders, individual use capability, creation of a new public space, facilitation of community organizing, giving opportunity for representation of different groups and access to information and access to information, and so on. There are several effective examples of social media use as a tool for social organizing. Of course, the usage of social media is not the only aspect here. Other elements that influence organizing success include social construction, the size of the mass that shares the problem, the social problem that causes the organization of society and its context, and so on. The Arab Spring, Gezi Park Protests, the July 15th coup attempt, campaigns by multinational organizations such as Greenpeace, and campaigns on sites such as change.org are all instances of the importance of social media in social organization. As a tool in all of these social acts, social media has played an essential part in planning, organizing, and advocating. However, social media offers features that encourage social organization. It has various drawbacks that should be considered while evaluating it, such as the usage of a propaganda apparatus. Another downside is the possibility of social groupings dissolving in a short period of time. Another point that should be made is that social media may be manipulated. Sharing made under fraudulent names might make social organizations to deviate from their primary aim. Many elements of social media might lead to advantages or problems in social organization. According to our survey, 72% of respondents believe that social media is an effective instrument for coordinating social actions. Furthermore, 73% of respondents agree with the statement "Social media may be utilized to address social issues on the public agenda." These ratios imply that the great majority of research respondents are focused with the advantages of social media in organizing society. d. Citation using APA Form e. Answer: How.
