AWARENESS AND COMPLIANCE ON COVID-19 HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS AMONG

ON-THE-JOB (OJT) STUDENTS OF WESTERN LEYTE COLLEGE OF ORMOC, INC.

INRTODUCTION

Background of the Study

The World Health Organization (WHO) classified Coronavirus Disease-2019

(COVID-19) a ‘’Pandemic’’ in early March 2020. Established health safety protocols and

unprecedented steps are being taken to combat the outbreak's rapid spread. Such as wearing

masks, maintaining social distance, handwashing, keeping rooms well aired, avoiding

crowds, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue. Having better awareness can increase

compliance that is why people's adherence to preventive actions is largely influenced by their

awareness of the disease under such circumstances Unfortunately, for some people who

present lack of awareness may result in low compliance to health and safety protocols.

Compliance with health and safety is needed in order to reduce the spread of viruses that are

transmitted from person to person. Compliance, especially in the workplace, will reduce virus

transmission. To increase student compliance on covid-19 health and safety protocols,

awareness on COVID-19 is required

The Western Leyte College, like all the other institutions of higher learning, had to

create distance-learning opportunities to enable students to complete the 2019–2020

academic year. The unplanned, rapid, and uncertain duration of the approach presented

challenges at all academic levels. Students who need to perform their on-the-job training just

do their requirement online, resulting in students being less competitive.  During the COVID-

19 pandemic, student-centered learning methods courses were quickly converted to complete

E-learning. Group discussions, clarifying sessions, and interactive lectures were conducted

in-classroom learning in the first part of the semester before the pandemic, while learning
activities were offered entirely online in the second half of the semester using various online

meeting platforms.

The researcher conducted this study to point out the importance of compliance on

COVID-19 health and safety protocols. And helps students specifically to those On Job

training students from Western Leyte College to be more aware and knowledgeable of the

impact of being not able to follow the health and safety protocols against Covid-19.

The Commission on Higher Education permitted universities and colleges to conduct

limited face-to-face classes, for the on-job-training students from Western Leyte College, Inc.

to help them and other students to determine the impact of not being able to be aware and not

following the health and safety protocols. This study makes the researcher to be serious in

conducting this study sense the researcher can relate the situation faced by the OJT student. It

is the belief of the researcher that this study will help student /OJT students to understand the

importance of awareness and compliance on COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
