Introduction

By early 2020, Corona Virus(SARS-Cov-2) named Covid-19 has begun to spread

throughout the Philippines Most people who are infected with the Covid-19 virus will develop
respiratory illness from mild to moderate and can recover without any medical treatment. But,
some people will experience very severe pain and need special medical treatment. The elderly
and those who are suffering from health problems such as cancer, diabetes or chronic disease are
more likely to develop serious illnesses. In fact, anyone infected with this virus and becoming
very severely ill can die regardless of age(World Health Organization, 2020). The pandemic of
Covid-19 had forced the majority of people in the Philippines to change their daily routine by
changing the routine of outdoor activities to indoor activities and face-to-face activities is strictly
prohibited. All the educational institutions were closed on 18
March 2020 by the Department of Education when the government enforced the new
normal set-up following the outbreak. E-Learning as an educational emergency survival tool.
Therefore, face-to-face learning is no longer an option (Danial Rahman & Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim
Alias, 2020) The research found that there are several arguments and challenges faced by the
student even though the online learning method has reduced cases of Covid-19 infection against
the education sector. The effectiveness of online learning has yet to be
determined (C. Y. Jie & N. Mat Ali, 2021) but some researchers found that the online learning
method gives a negative impact to the university students. However, the online learning method
has always been updated to be a simple system and wants to give a positive impact
to the university students, which requires digital application and systems. Then, the pandemic
of Covid-19 has questioned whether the universities will embrace the Online Learning
Distance(ODL) or E-Learning in such a significant way to make the students accept it and give
positive results. In this regard, this report also highlights the educational challenges faced by
university students in Philippines when hit by the Covid-19 virus disaster.

Literature Review

(Bashir, 2020)
published an abstract entitled "Online Learning among College Students in Jammu and Kashmir
during Covid -19 Pandemic: Student Satisfaction and Challenges". A survey regarding the
objectives of the study was carried out after administering an online questionnaire to the students
and observation was conceded based on the response from the students of the Department of the
Education of the Government Degree College for Women Pulwama. The major findings are (1)
the students expressed satisfaction with regards to online learning as a useful tool of education
during a pandemic situation. (1) Face-to-face learning was a preferred methodology of education
and was regarded as more satisfying by students

Subedi et al.(2020) published an abstract entitled "Impact of E-learning during COVID-

19 Pandemic among Nursing Students and Teachers of Nepal". A descriptive cross-sectional
online survey was conducted. Teachers and students of Nursing Faculties were selected from13
different nursing colleges of Nepal who were conducting online classes during the COVID-19
Pandemic lockdown. Result: Almost half of the teachers (42.3%) got disturbed for their online
class because of the electricity problem, 48.1% because of internet problems. More than half of
the students (63.2%) were affected because of electricity and 63.6% had internet problems, only
64.4% of the students had internet access for their online classes. However, 64.3% of students
used a data pack for their online class, 58.4% used mobile (cell phone), and there is a significant
association of Selected Demographic variables of the respondents with most of the Statements
(Attitude and Problems/Activities).

Statement of the Problem and hypothesis

The purpose of this study is to determine the challenges faced by university students in

BAC 2201 during pandemic.

Specifically, it intended to answer the following questions:

1. What the demographic profile of the respondents?

a. Age
b. Gender
2. How was the satisfaction of students about online learning during the Covid-19
pandemic
3. What are the educational challenges encountered by the students during online class?

Hypothesis
H01-there demographic profile of the respondents varies in terms of age, sex.

H02- There are challenges that the students encountered in term of academic.

II. Methodology

A. Research Design
This Study use descriptive method to know the Educational Challenges faced by BAC
Second Year Student at BSU-ARASOF During pandemic.
This descriptive research used a quantitative method to evaluate the information and
feedback of the respondents. Descriptive design described the current status of a variable
or phenomenon. The researcher do not begin with a hypothesis, but typically develop one
after the data was collected. Data collection was mostly observational in nature.

B. Participants
In the present study, Students’ of Bachelor of Arts in Communication of Batangas
State University ARASOF- Nasugbu come under the participant of the study
C. Sample Procedure
The Sample of the study was consisted of 20 Students of BAC. The researcher
decided to have 20 respondents in the belief that they can provide adequate data to be
interpreted in this study
The purposive sampling was the one used by the researchers since the population
of the study has a limited range

D. Research Instrument
The researcher use a survey questionnaire to gather the necessary data for the
completion of the study. The interview is composed of four (3) Sets questions: the
first part pertains to the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of Age,
Gender; The second part pertains how was the satisfaction of students about
online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic; third part pertains to the challenges
encountered on of online classes of the students

E. Data Analysis
The study used simple descriptive statistics in analyzing and interpreting the data
gathered. The Interpretation and analysis of data, frequency counts and percentage
were utilized. It was used to described the response of the respondents in terms of
quality to get the sample size.

Table 1. Respondents Demographic Profile

Age Frequency Percentage

19 4 20%
20 6 30%
21 7 35%
22 3 15%
20 100%
Sex Frequency Percentage
Male 5 25%
Female 15 75%
total 20 100%

The table reveal the demographic profile of the respondents.

In terms of age, twenty percent (20%) from the total respondents are nineteen (19)
years old and the frequency of four (4), thirty percent (30%) of the entire respondents are
twenty (20) years old with the frequency of six (6), thirty-five percent (35%) of the
respondents are twenty-one (21) years old with the frequency of seven (7), fifteen percent
of the respondents are twenty-two (22) years old with the frequency of three (3) as shown
in the table above

This shows that most of the respondents were twenty-one years old (21) having
thirty-five percent (35%) with the frequency of seven (7)

In terms of sex, twenty-five percent (25%) of the respondents are male with the
frequency of five (5) and seventy-five percent (75) of the respondents were female with
the frequency of fifteen (15) this shows that majority of respondents were female which
was seventy-five percent (75%) of the total population with the frequency of fifteen (15)

Table 2 the satisfaction of students about online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic

Satisfaction Frequency percentage

Highly Satisfied 4 20%
Averagely Satisfied 9 45%
Unsatisfied 7 35%
total 20 100%

The table above reveals the satisfaction of students about online learning

during the Covid-19 pandemic

The result of the data gathered show that twenty percent (35%) of the respondents
are highly satisfied with the frequency of four (4), forty-five percent (45%) of the
respondents were averagely Satisfied with the frequency of nine (9) thirty-five percent
(35%) of the respondents are unsatisfied with the frequency of seven (7).

This indicate that most of the respondents were averagely satisfied about learning
during the Covid-19 pandemic with forty-five percent (45%) with a corresponding
frequency of nine (9) out of twenty (20) respondents.
