Distribution and Maintenance Bypass solution known as Eaton Connected. The
specification is intended for use by electrical consultants who design systems for back-up
power applications.
 The integrated solution shall be intended for providing back-up power to critical loads
significantly reducing system downtime for critical applications in order to maintain
processes in oil and gas, data-center, infrastructure and hospitals.
 The offered solution shall be an alternative to loose UPS and separate LV distribution
switchgear as traditionally provided for back-up power applications reducing design
complexity, saving on footprint and a more cost-effective design.

2 Introduction

 The system shall be offered as a close-coupled UPS+LV Switchgear system. The
selectivity of the breakers is pre-determined and interconnections between the UPS
and the LV Switchgear are tested. The solution is flexible to incorporate easy
extension with the upstream incoming breaker, outgoing UPS backed up feeders and
non-UPS backed feeders.

 The system (Eaton Connected) is available up to power rating of 900 KVA. The system
shall be designed for nominal service voltage of 400-415V, 50-60 Hz and maximum rated

4 Eaton Connected System Description (System Functional Description)

4.1 UPS Functional Description

The UPS shall consist of the following main components:

 UPS frame containing Rectifier(s), Inverter(s), Battery Charger(s), Static Bypass

Switch, and associated Control and Monitor Panel. The UPS construction shall be
modular. The internal modules shall operate in a peer-to-peer manner to provide
automatic load sharing, synchronization, and selective tripping capabilities.
“Master-slave” configurations are not acceptable.
 Battery string(s), either internal or in external cabinets.
The UPS shall operate as an on-line, fully automatic system in the following modes:

 Normal: Utilising AC power, the critical load shall be continuously supplied by the
Inverter. The Inverter shall power the load while regulating both voltage and
frequency. The rectifier shall derive power from the AC source and shall supply DC
power to the Inverter. Simultaneously, the battery charger shall charge the battery.
 Battery: Upon failure of the available AC power, the critical load shall continue to be
supplied by the Inverter, which shall obtain power from the batteries without any
operator intervention. There shall be no interruption to the critical load upon failure
or restoration of the commercial AC source.
 Recharge: Upon restoration of the AC source, the charger shall recharge the
batteries and simultaneously the rectifier shall provide power to the inverter. This
shall be an automatic function and shall cause no interruption to the critical load.
 Static Bypass: If the UPS must be taken out of the Normal mode, the static bypass
switch shall transfer the critical load to the AC power through the static bypass
switch. Return from Bypass mode to Normal mode of operation shall be automatic
or manual. The static bypass shall always be rated according to the UPS frame
maximum capacity.
 Energy Saving Mode: The UPS shall continuously monitor the voltage and
frequency of the bypass source. When the source parameters are within acceptable
limits, the UPS will utilise a minimal/optimal combination of its internal subsystems
to ensure acceptable power is always delivered to the critical load, at a system
efficiency of 99%.

4.2 LV Power Distribution System

The integrated system shall be equipped with the corresponding LV power distribution
system type Eaton make Power Xpert CX;

 The system shall be equipped with a manual Maintenance bypass switch that shall
enable safe access to UPS assemblies whilst the load is supplied by AC power
through the Maintenance bypass switch.
 The distribution system shall consist of the functional units; Rectifier Input Breaker
(RIB), Bypass Input Breaker (BIB), Maintenance Bypass Switch (MBS),
Maintenance Isolation Switch (MIS) and optional battery breaker.
 The functional units shall be mounted in metal compartmentalised LV Switchgear.
The RIB, BIB, and MBS shall perform dual functionality as a switch-disconnector
and circuit breaker with overcurrent protection. MIS shall be a switch-disconnector
with the capability to interrupt the nominal output current of the UPS. The RIB, BIB,
MIS and MBS shall be MCCBs in either fixed type or plug-in type execution.
 The plug-in and easy to access mounting of the MCCBs/Switch Disconnector shall
enable easy access of the functional unit for maintenance and service. The MCCBs
shall be rated according to IEC-60947-2 category B.
 It shall be possible to extend the LV distribution system to incorporate the
UPS backed and non-UPS backed up distribution feeders, incoming circuit
breaker by addition of LV distribution switchgear.
 The MCCBs shall be ready equipped with electronic trip units capable of
achieving selectivity and tripping coordination with the UPS, and incoming
and outgoing circuit breaker feeding the connected load.
 The overload and short circuit inverter characteristic curves are coordinated
with the RIB, BIB and MBS MCCBs such that the inverter trip time is less than
the MCCBs trip time. The remote operation and monitoring of MCCBs is
possible.

5 Cable Entry and Connections

 The integrated system has an electrical and mechanical tested design for cable or
busbar connection between the MCCBs in the MBS panel and the UPS equipment.

incoming and outgoing cables. The system shall have an optional choice for of
busbar extension to the LV distribution switchgear incorporating the outgoing
distribution feeders.
 The system shall be suitable for housing top or bottom cable entry. (by choice)
 Unless otherwise specified, the purchaser shall provide the necessary cable glands, clamps
and lugs. Cable way doors shall be equipped with a three-point locking system.
6 Busbar and earthing system
 The LV Distribution Switchgear has horizontal busbars located on the rear side of the
switchgear. The conductors shall be in the rear section (Conductor compartment) of the
cubicle located at the top and bottom location in the panel.
 The vertical conductor system is located behind the functional area and is the connection
link between the busbars and the functional modules. The connection between the MCCB
functional units shall be possible through these vertical droppers.
 The system has provisions for protective earth bar (PE) and neutral bar (N) mounted
running through the whole section of the switchgear.

 The system shall be capable of carrying the continuous rated current during the normal
operating sequence and KVA rating of the UPS. The busbars and the droppers of the
corresponding LV distribution Switchgear shall be rated to carry this continuous rated
current as per the required KVA rating of the UPS installation as follows;
 Nominal - 100% load without charging
 Maximum – 100% load with maximum charging (Rectifier current limit)
