DESCRIPTION
SEM Magnetos type EY-2R36 are of 2 design
‘employing the rotating magnet principle. The por
‘manent magne! of Alnico-sleel is diecast ino
$ngle unit with the lamineted pole pieces and the
Spindles fo form the magneto rolor. The loss ro-
Bust parts, such a the coil and condenser, are
slalionary. The ‘contact breaker, which doos nol
folate, is of the pivolel type and entirely enclosed
ina metal casing, The magnelos are designed for
Service under the most arduous conditions, The
Shlive. units ore enclosed within a duste_ and
tmoislure-prool metal frame. The coil is effectively
insulated by 0 method which protects against dex
lerioration and power leakage under adverse rune
hing conditions
INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE
When foully ignition occurs, he high tonsion ea-
bles and sporking plugs should firs! bo examined,
Tithe insulation shows signs of deterioration or
cracking, the cables mus! be exchanged. For this
Purpote the main cover of the magnoto housing
eed nol be removed. Unscrew the nut on the
able oullel and remove the cable. The now cable
Should not be bered but must be cul of flush to
the required length. The rubber is pulled onto the
Coble for disience of atleast 40:mm from ils end
fand the cable is pushed well down info the
Bottom ef the insulator, The nul on the cable
tulle! mus! then be screwed home.
The plug slecirades burn awsy sigthly in service
whereby the gop length gradually inereases. Ex
Trine and clean them from fime 19 Hime, adjusting
them i necessaty. For the righ! dislonce follow
the insiructions of the engine manufacturer
ADIUSTMENT OF BREAKER POINTS
The contact breaker should be inspected from
fime 10. lime. Il is. important that the contacts
should be kept clean. I they are burned or black:
ened they may be cleaned with a very fine cat-
borundum stone or emery cloth. Care must be
faken that all particles of die! or metal dust ore
Wiped away, This cen be done with cloth
moistened with pelral
‘The gap belween the contacts, when fully opened,
should be 0,4 mm. The distance can be checked
by means of the gauge on the adjusting spanner
W adjusiment is necessary, proceed 2s. lollows
Slack aif the screw A (See fig) slighlly. Insert the
screw drivar of the adjusting spanner in the slot C.
Turning the spanner to the fell decreases, and
turning! to the righ! increases, the distance be~
{ween the contacls, When the gap is sel 10 the
thicknate of the gauge lighten the screw A
W the cam is removed from the shall for any rea-
son, make sure thal il is replaced in ils original
pasition. The end surfaces of the cam are marked
with an R and an L respectively. On magnetos for
3 right-hand deive the leller R must be turned lo=
wards the breaker cover. On magnetos for lell-
hand drive the leller Lthould have the same po-
sion,
{ithe moving contact Dis to be replaced, unscrew
the nul F with the adjusting spanner and remove
the splil pin G. Fill the groove of the contact
breaker pivot with ball beating grease and insall
the new moving contact I the fll lubricator H is
diy, add a few drops of thin machine gil onto the
fell! When replacing the contact breaker housing,
Ii its lubricating groove with ball bearing grease
betore assembly,
REPLACEMENT OF CONDENSER
‘When replacing the condenser remove the two re-
faining screws. When reassembling ensure that
the cable conneclions from the contact breaker
‘ond the wound core are replaced in their origi-
nel positions. The eyelet Irom the winding and the
nickel-plated coble. terminel from the contact
Breaker are. placed under one of the. relaining
scrows. The brats cable terminal from the contact
breaker and the eyelels from the ignilion coil and
condenser are placed under the felaining screw
for the shorting spring clip.
CLEANING OF HIGH TENSION MOULDING
AND SLIP RING.
The high fension moulding should be. removed
abou! once a year and cleaned. Wipe off any de-
posils and polish with a fine dry cloth, See that
the pick up brushes move freely in their holders,
Belore replacing the high Tension moulding, clean
the slip ting by inserting a soit cloth and ob
same lime slowly turning the engine. When re-
fuzembling ensure that the cable connections Irom
the wound core, the condenser ond the contact
breaker are made according fo the instructions for
replacement of the condenser
