FILIPINO SCIENTIST

1.Gregorio Y.Zara –Was a Filipino scientist best known as the inventor of the
videophone, the first two-way electronic video communicator, in 1955.All told, he
patented 30 devices. His other inventions ranged from an alcohol-powered airplane
engine to a solar-powered airplane engine to a solar- powered water heater and stove.

2.Angel Alcala-The 1992 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for government service and who
is behind the invention of artificial coral reefs used for fisheries in southeast Asia it
contains a lengthy account of his early life,his education, scientific achievements and
researches.

3.Francisco M. Fronda- the so-called "Father of Poultry Science in the Philippines" for
his contributions in the improvement of methods of production of local poultry and
livestock, was born in Aliaga, Nueva Ecija.

4. Clare R. Baltazar -Dr. Clare Baltazar is recognized for her contributions on the
research on Philippine insects. Her discovery of the Philippine-endemic Hymenoptera
species is important for biological insect control applications. Dr. Baltazar published a
book on Philippine Insects is the first reliable book on Philippine insects. Discoveries of
8 and one subgenus of Hymenoptera and 108 new species of the Philippine parasitic
Wasp's are Dr. Baltazar other important contributions to Science. Dr. Baltazar is well
renowned here and out of the country. She accepted the Rizal Pro Patria Award in
Entomology in 1980.

5. Beneto Vergara -in 2001 Dr. Vergara was conferred the title National Scientist for his
achievements in rice physiology, and promoting rice science and technology. It was the
highlight of a long and consistently productive career. A humble man, he “was on cloud
nine,” he said, after being nominated as a National Scientist by the National Academy of
Science and Technology agriculture division.

6. Edgardo Gomez- Was a Filipino biologist who was conferred the rank of National
Scientist of the Philippines in 2014. He was a professor emeritus for marine biology at
the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute.

7. Dioscoro L. Umali -was a Filipino agriculturalist and National Scientist of the


Philippines awardee, known as "the Father of Philippine Plant Breeding. He was
awarded several international honors and distinctions for his outstanding achievements
and improvements of rice, corn and other economic plants. The International Rice
Research Institute named a laboratory in his honor.

8. Julian Banzon -is known for his cleverness and creativity. This Filipino scientist
declared that coconut could be a renewable resource of chemicals and fuel. He makes
use of local equipments in approximately all his researches.His workings consist of
studies on coconut and sugarcane. He said that, coconut could be renewable sources
of chemicals and fuels. He also revealed that ethyl esters could be taken from
sugarcane.

9. Deo Florence L. Onda -is a Filipino microbial oceanographer. He is known for being
the first Filipino to descend into the Emden Deep in the Philippine Trench.

10-.Luz Oliveros-Belardo-was a Filipina pharmaceutical chemist, honored with the


National Scientist of the Philippines award by the Philippine government in 1987.
