WHAT DOES 5S MEAN?

5S is a workplace organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words: seiri,
seiton, seisō, seiketsu, and shitsuke. The list describes how to organize a work space
for efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining
the area and items, and sustaining the new order.
The decision-making process usually comes from a dialogue about standardization,
which builds understanding among employees of how they should do the work
5S is a structured program to systematically achieve total organization,
cleanliness and standardization in the workplace.
I. 5S METHODOLOGY
SEIRI SORT SURIIN

 Defined as the sorting out of

necessary equipment or material in
required and non required items.
 Seiri is the identification of the best
physical organization of the
workplace.
 Take out unnecessary items and

SEITON SYSTEMATIZE SINUPIN
 It means setting ever thing in proper
order for easy retrieval.
 It involves setting in order what is found
in Seiri, Straighten and Standardization
of it.
 Organize and arrange necessary items
for ease of use

SEISO SWEEP SIMUTIN

 It means "to make everything shiny clean".

 Clean your place of work everyday

SEIKETSU SANITIZE SIGURADUHIN ANG
KALINISAN

 It means "standardized cleanup".

 Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and
workplace organization at all times
 (Siguraduhin ang patuloy na pananatili ng kalinisan

SHITSUKE SELF DISCIPLINE SARILING

 It is about self-discipline to maintain or sustain the

changes (improvements).
 Do things spontaneously without being told to do so
