VIA MSTEAMS (11:00AM – 12:00 NOON)
I. OBJECTIVES
● Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of measures of
position.
● Performance Standards
The learner is able to conduct systematically a mini-research applying the
different statistical methods.
● Learning Competencies
A. Define and differentiate mean, median and mode.
B. Solve for the mean, median and mode of ungrouped data.
C. Appreciate the importance of the measures of central tendency.
CODE: M10SP-IVa-1

II. SUBJECT MATTER

TOPIC: Measures of Central Tendency Of Ungrouped Data (A RECALL)
References: SLM1 Division of Pasig City Learning Portal
E- Math 10 by Oronce
IV. PROCEDURE
A. Daily Routine
1. Drill (Prepared by students)
2. Review (Prepared by students)
3. Trivia (Prepared by students)

B. Presentation
1. Motivation : Read the given situation.
During the ECQ, the Puregold supermarket limit the number of people
who entered to buy goods. The security guard recorded the following
number of customers every hour for 9 hours of his duty. 24, 25, 25, 19,
24, 28, 32, 25 and 35.
A. What is the average number of customers that visit the supermarket?
B. Suppose you arrange the number of customers in ascending order,
what will be the middle value?
C. What number of customers appears most frequently?
What comes to your mind when you hear or read the three questions
above?

2. Activity and Analysis

Ok let's check if you still remember your lessons about measures of central
tendency while you're in lower grade level. Be ready with your paper and
pen.
I hope this Q and A portion will help you recall the lesson better and
answer all your queries about MEAN, MEDIAN and MODE of Ungrouped
Data.

Q: What is the other term for mean?

A: MEAN or AVERAGE in symbol is x̄ (read as x-bar) -the part of
distribution around which the values balance.

Q: What is the formula to solve for the mean?

A: The formula is x̄ = (∑X)/N where: x̄ = mean ∑X = sum of the values in
a set N = frequency

Q: The Badjao tribe is an indigenous people whose culture and livelihood

are tied to the sea. Some of them can be seen along the streets of Metro
Manila nowadays begging money to the passengers in a jeepney. If Honey
Jane
( popular Badjao name ) received the Php 27, Php 22, Php 24 and Php 23
in four jeepneys she rode, what is the average amount she received ?
A: The correct answer is Php 24
x̄ = (∑X) / N =(27+22+24+23)/4 = 96/4 x̄ = 24
Q: What do you call the middle value or score when a set of data are
arranged in either ascending or descending order?
A: MEDIAN in symbol is x ̃ (read as x-tilde). The middle most score when
the given data are arrange in ascending or descending order.

Q: Which of the following is the formula to solve for median

A. x ̃ = {(n+1)/2} th value
B. x ̃ = {(n-1)/2} th value
C. x ̃ = {n+1} th value
A: The formula is x=
̃ {(n+1)/2} th value
Where: x=
̃ median
n = total number of values/scores

Q: The daily sales for one week of a Sari-sari store in Karangalan are as
follows. Php 3,300, Php 2,800, Php 4,300, Php 2,900, Php 2,500, Php
3,100 and Php 4,050. What is the median of the sales in 1 week?
A: SOLUTION: Arrange the sales in ascending/ descending order 2,500,
2,800, 2,900, 3,100, 3,300, 4,050, 4,300
Use x ̃ = {(n+1)/2} th n=7
x ̃ = {(7+1)/2} th
x=
̃ {8/2} th
x ̃ = 4th value
Therefore, the median is the 4th term x ̃ = Php 3,100

Q: Using the daily sale of the sari sari store but in the 8th day, the sale of
the Sari-sari is Php 5,000. Find the median of the sales in 8 days.
A: SOLUTION: Arrange the sales in ascending/ descending order 2,500,
2,800, 2,900, 3,100, 3,300, 4,050, 4,300, 5,000
Use x ̃ = {(n+1)/2} th n=8
x ̃ = {(8+1)/2} th
x ̃ = {9/2} th x ̃ = 4.5th
Since the 4.5th value of the sale is the mean of 4th and 5th sales
x ̃ = (3,100+3,300)/2
x ̃ = Php 3,200

Q: What do you call the value or score that has the highest frequency or
the value or score that appears most frequently in a given set of data?
A: MODE in symbol is x̂ (read as x-hat). A given set of data can have more
than one mode or no mode at all.
Unimodal- one mode
Bimodal- two modes
Trimodal- three modes
Multimodal- many modes

Q: A group of teenagers were asked how many Netflix movies they've

watched in a particular week. No. of Movies 1 2 3 4
No.of teenagers 13 13 18 6
What is the mode of the given data?
A: The correct answer is 3 because it has the highest frequency or number
of teenagers watched x̂ = 3 It is unimodal

Q: When your adviser ranks you every quarter which measure of central
tendency did she/he used?
A: The mean or average

Q: You're family has a shoe business , what measure of central tendency

did they used when their are surveying about the different sizes of shoes?
A: Mode the more in demand sizes of shoes means more production.

Abstraction:
MEAN or AVERAGE in symbol is x̄ (read as x-bar) -the part of distribution
around which the values balance.
MEDIAN in symbol is x ̃ (read as x-tilde). The middle most score when the
given data are arranged in ascending or descending order.
MODE in symbol is x̂ (read as x-hat). A given set of data can have more
than one mode or no mode at all. Unimodal- one mode Bimodal- two modes
Trimodal- three modes Multimodal- many modes.
