ICJ or the International Court of Justice, sometimes known as the World Court, is one
of the six principal organs of the United Nations. It settles disputes between states in
accordance with international law and gives advisory opinions on international legal issues.
On Tuesday morning (July 12, 2016), a tribunal of five judges at Hague-based Permanent
Court of Arbitration issued a highly anticipated and unanimous award in Republic of
Philippines v. People’s Republic of China, a case filed in 2013 by Manila concerning
maritime entitlements and the status of features in the South China Sea, among other issues.
An international tribunal in The Hague ruled in favor of the Philippines in a maritime dispute
Tuesday, concluding China has no legal basis to claim historic rights to the bulk of the South
China Sea. The Philippines, despite the favorable nature of the award, has reacted carefully.
According to the Philippine Star, Philippines Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Jr., said that
the country’s experts are studying the award. He also noted that the country “maintains
respect for the milestone decision” and “upholds international law.”

If I’ll be given the chance to be the President of the Republic of the Philippines, I will
resolve our problem peacefully. However, whatever the ICJ's decision is, it must be respected
by both parties. We don't have to be bloodthirsty or declare war in order to claim the sea.
Both countries should agree to share the beautiful sea and take care of it rather than
destroying it for our own benefit. The only planet where humanity may call home is Earth.
As a result, he must love and care for it. This is an area where plants and animals thrive, and
the environment and terrain supply all that humans require to survive. When a person refuses
to embrace the responsibility of caring for nature, destruction ensues. Omission or
consignment can both bring devastation. Animals have become endangered or extinct as a
result of irresponsible hunting. The continual logging and burning of grasslands has basically
wiped out plant life. Pollution has a negative impact on the environment.

In summary, we must take care of our world, whether we own it or not. If we neglect
to take care of it, we will suffer too.
