1.0 PURPOSE

To establish a continuous process of improvement, participation, communication


and cooperation as a key element to the success of the environmental, safety and
health process/system. The Zero Injury team provides an avenue within the project
organization for personnel to create a vested interest in the planning, management,
development, communication and continuous improvement of the project
environmental, safety and health process.

2.0 SCOPE
This procedure applies to all Bechtel projects and operating facilities.

3.0 ZERO INJURY TEAM

Each Bechtel project will establish a Zero Injury team. The primary objective of the
Zero Injury team is to facilitate the successful integration of the project
environmental, safety and health process into all activities, and to spread ownership
of the environmental, safety and health process to all employees.

4.0 ORGANIZATION

4.1 The members of the team will consist of a cross section of employees on the
project. The site manager will approve all assignments.

4.2 Team members will be assigned and rotated as determined by the team and
site manager. The site manager will sponsor the team while a trained
continuous improvement coach will facilitate all meetings.

4.3 The site manager or their designee will attend all meetings to provide the
team a resource to initiate corrective actions.

4.4 The ES&H department will act as a resource for providing performance
statistics and technical support.

5.0 INITIAL ACTIVITIES


The initial activities of the team will be to implement the zero injury process by
completing the following activities:
5.1 Develop a mission statement relative to ES&H which is integral to the project
mission and vision statement. The statement should also include client or
customer expectations.
5.2 Define the process whereby the project will strive to reach the Zero Injury
goal.
5.3 Develop key result areas and measures of performance which meet the
requirements of the project ES&H process.
5.4 Incorporate the ES&H philosophy that all accidents and injuries are
preventable in conjunction with the ultimate goal of zero system failures and
accidents.

6.0 ON-GOING ACTIVITIES


Agenda items will include the following, as appropriate:
6.1 Review of key result areas, objectives, and measures of performance
6.2 Development of action items to improve processes
6.3 Providing team recommendations to project management
6.4 Review of team activities and improvements

7.0 MEETING REQUIREMENTS


7.1 The Zero Injury team meetings will be scheduled as appropriate for the
project but not less than monthly.
7.2 Written minutes of all meetings will be kept by the team secretary and
distributed to all team members, site management and the appropriate
Regional ES&H Services Supervisor.
7.3 Periodic feedback to all employees on the project should include major action
items, goals and accomplishments the team is addressing and reaching.
