Alcohol is the most commonly consumed psychoactive substance worldwide (Degenhardt L, Chiu WT,

Sampson N, Kessler RC, Anthony JC, Angermeyer M et al. 2008). Alcohol use often begins in early
adolescence, a period when risky behaviours such as substance use are common (Bava S, Tapert SF.
2010). Alcoholism, now known as alcohol use disorder, is a condition in which a person has a desire or
physical need to consume alcohol, even though it has a negative impact on their life. In the past, a
person with this condition was referred to as an “alcoholic.” However, this is increasingly seen as an

Teens who use alcohol are at a higher risk of developing mental health problems such as depression,

In the Philippines, the most popular drink is beer, followed by lambanog (whiskey made from coconut)
and wine. Beer is the common part of birthdays, fiestas and other parties. Even when there is no
occasion, many Filipinos still hang out together anywhere like in the streets, bar, in front of their houses
and convenience stores drinking gin and tonic which is also consider as a cheaper alcoholic drink.
Alcoholism is a growing concern in the culture and social life of Filipinos. A number of cases of sexual
and drug abuse, suicide and violence among Filipinos is usually due to drunkenness or alcohol
intoxication (Valbuena,2006).

According to the ENNS, 2019, (53.2%) of currently drinking teenagers in Nueva Ecija between the ages of
10 and 19 engage in binge drinking. 2 years ago, Cabanatuan police reported: A 16-year-old student in

For this reason, the researchers will attempt to determine the psychological effects of alcoholism among
minors to lessen the number of minor drinkers of alcohol in the area and to inform them of the possible
effects on their health if they regularly drink alcohol.
