been appointed as Chief Economist of the World Bank Group - Indermit Gill
2. The indigenously built (76%) aircraft carrier which has been delivered to the
Indian Navy by its manufacturer Cochin Shipyards Ltd - INS Vikrant

It is named ‘Vikrant’ as a tribute to India’s first aircraft carrier, Vikrant (built by


the UK) which played a crucial role in the 1971 war. It will join the Russian-
made INS Vikramaditya

3. India's first passenger-drone with payload of 130 kg and range of 25 km,


unveiled by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is named - Varuna

11. The Sindhughosh class of submarine of the Indian Navy, which was
decommissioned after 35 years of her service to the nation on 16 July - INS
Sindhudhvaj. With this, the Navy now has 15 conventional submarines in
service.
12. Defence Minister recently launched latest ship of 17A frigate - Nilgiri Class –
Dunagiri. This is the fourth and latest ship in this class.It has been designed
in-house by the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design (DND)

The Shivalik class or Project 17 class is a class of multi-role stealth frigates in


service with the Indian Navy. They are the first stealth warships built in India.

21.The place at which India’s largest floating Solar Power Project has become
operational with the commercial operation of the final part capacity of 20 MW

It is powered with advanced technology and environment-friendly features. The


project spreads over 500 acres of its reservoir, with the presence of floating solar
panels, the evaporation rate from water bodies is reduced, thus helping in water
conservation.

22. The first attempt to re-wild endangered red pandas in India will be done in -
Singalila National Park
The number of red pandas has been declining in the wild, even in the Singalila and
Neora Valley National Parks (West Bengal). Singalila National Park launches a
programme that aims to release about 20 red pandas in a period of five years. It is
also the state animal of Sikkim.
23. Union Minister Piyush Goyal revised the mantra of 5 F’s for the fashion
industry to make the Textile industry of India a strong name in the world.  5F’s
stand for - farms to fibre to fabric to fashion to foreign export 
24. 7200 Km long International North-South Transport Corridor is a multi-mode
network of roads, ships, and railways to increase trade between India and
Russia. This route connects India and Russia through - Iran and Azerbaijan.
25. Countries that are likely to be the two newest additions to the China and
Russia-backed Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) - Iran and
Belarus 
India will host the SCO summit next year, and Varanasi has been selected as the
SCO region’s first “Tourism and Cultural Capital”.
26. Govt. has formulated a scheme for cleaning sewers, and septic tanks (to be
implemented from 2022 to 2026) - NAMASTE scheme (national action for
mechanized sanitation ecosystem)

28. It has become the first major 100% landlord port in India, having all berths
being operated on the PPP model - Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP)
Landlord model:  In this model, the publicly governed port authority (owner) acts
as a regulatory body and as a landlord while private companies carry out all other
port operations. In return, the landlord gets a share of the revenue from the private
entity.

29.First and the only country in the world to have a female majority
Parliament - Rwanda

Thirteen of the 26 members of the Rwandan Cabinet are women. And so are the four
of seven Supreme Court judges.
In the 2022 Gender Parity Index released by UNESCO, Rwanda has been
ranked 6th among 146 nations way ahead of India (135), the US (27) and the UK
(22).

30.The exercise between Japan’s maritime self-defence force and the Indian
navy in the Andaman Sea - India-Japan Maritime Partnership Exercise
(MPX) 

INS Sukanya ( named after notable women from Indian epics), an offshore
patrol vessel of the Indian Navy will be participating in it.

31.FDI in India - As per the Ministry of Commerce, the total FDI received in
2021-22 was the US $ 84bn (highest annual inflow)

33.A higher tax rate on sudden big profits levied on a particular company or
industry - Windfall tax

Government slapped a windfall tax on domestic crude oil producers. Domestic


producers sell crude oil to domestic refineries at international parity prices,
thus making windfall gains. ONGC reported bumper profits in the March
quarter (when international prices soared to a near 14-year high of $139 per
barrel).

35. India and Namibia have signed a MoU to reintroduce Cheetahs by August 15,
2022 at the - Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh

KNP has an adequate prey base, devoid of human settlements, has capacity to
sustain 21 cheetahs etc. Once restored, it can hold about 36 cheetahs. It will be the
only wildlife sanctuary in the world to host all four major cat species—lion, tiger,
cheetah and leopard. It was declared extinct in India in 1952 due to over-hunting and
loss of habitat.

36. Japan's longest-serving PM who pushed for more assertive policies to


revitalise Japan economically and rebuild its role on the global stage, who
was assassinated recently - Shinzo Abe

India finds a special mention in his book Utsukushii Kuni E (Toward a Beautiful
Country). For his contributions, Indian Government gave the prestigious Padma
Vibhushan to him in 2021.

37. Doubly Landlocked country means that it is surrounded by countries that are
themselves landlocked. Globally, only two nations are doubly landlocked -
Liechtenstein and Uzbekistan

38. United Nations Ocean Conference was held at Lisbon, Portugal. This
conference was co-hosted by the Governments of Portugal and Kenya.
Theme of the conference - “Scaling up ocean action based on science
and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking,
partnerships and solutions”.
39. G20 foreign ministers’ summit was held at Bali, Indonesia - the current
President of G20. It was held under the theme - Building a more peaceful,
stable, and prosperous world together.

Gender Gap Index

India ranks 135 among a total of 146 countries in the Global Gender Gap
Index, 2022, released by the World Economic Forum.

Indicators:

 Political Empowerment: Of all the sub-indices, this is where India ranks


the highest (48th out of 146)
o Iceland is ranked 1 with a score of 0. 874 and Bangladesh is
ranked 9 with a score of 0.546.
 Economic Participation and Opportunity: India ranks a lowly 143 out
of the 146 countries in contention even though its score has improved
over 2021 from 0.326 to 0.350. 
o India’s score is much lower than the global average, and only Iran,
Pakistan and Afghanistan are behind India on this metric.
 Educational Attainment: Here India ranks 107th out of 146, and its
score has marginally worsened since last year. In 2021, India was
ranked 114 out of 156.
 Health and Survival: India is ranked last (146) among all the countries. 
o Its score hasn’t changed from 2021 when it was ranked 155th out
of 156 countries.
NITI Aayog’s India Innovation Index, 2022
The index determines innovation capacities and ecosystems at the sub-national
level.
Key outcomes:

 Karnataka topped the ranking, followed by Telangana, Haryana,


Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
 Manipur secured the lead in the Northeast and Hill States category
 Chandigarh was the top performer in the Union Territories and the City
States category.
 Bottom rank: Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar and Gujarat were at the
bottom of the index.
