BELT REQUIREMENTS
All belts, including belts with style must have the following information:
• Country of origin required by South African law
• Care instructions required by South African law
• Fibre content required by South African law
• Supplier code required by Truworths
• Type and style required by Truworths
• Size required by Truworths.
BASE FABRICS:
Label base fabric: Double sided, woven edge, polyester satin, ultrasonically cut, to
achieve a soft handle. Loop fold labels must not be used.
BRANDING:
Branding is required on belts sold separately and not a requirement for belts with
apparel garments.
The standard layout on page 15 must be followed for all belts with apparel garments.
The information may be stamped onto the belt as per illustration 1 below or the
information may be printed onto a care label and inserted as per illustration 2 and 3
below.

WASH CARE LABEL INFORMATION REQUIRED BY SOUTH AFRICAN LAW
The South African Government’s Merchandise Mark’s Act and Consumer Protection
Act require that all wash care labels clearly state:
1. Country of origin (e.g. Made in China)

Locally manufactured product using imported material must state made in
South Africa from imported fabric.
2. Fibre content: The fibre types and percentages must be printed on the care
label (e.g. Cotton 60%, Polyester 33%, Elastane 7%) in accordance with the
South African National Standards code of practice for “Fibre content labelling
of textiles”.
3. Wash care instructions and symbols: Care labels must state the wash care
Instructions in accordance with the South African National Standard code of
practice for “Care labelling of textiles and clothing”.
4. Full details of the codes of practice detailed in 2 and 3 above are available
from the South African Bureau of Standard’s regional offices.
5. RSA Law requires that all clothing, leather-goods and soft home-wares,
including, shoes, bags, belts, wallets, caps, scarves, cushions, throws etc,
must have a wash care label attached. Failure to do so can result in a ZAR 5,
000-00 fine per item and/or imprisonment for 3 years.
WASH CARE LABEL INFORMATION REQUIRED BY TRUWORTHS

4. Size required by Truworths on lingerie, sleepwear and non apparel products.
TRUWORTHS WASH CARE LABEL REQUIREMENTS

(BASE FABRIC, WIDTH AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS)
BASE FABRICS:
1. Label base fabric for all products: Double sided, woven edge, polyester satin,
ultrasonically cut, to achieve a soft handle. Loop fold labels must not be
used.
2. Heat-slit and heat-cut labels must not be used.
SIZES:
1. 16 mm or 20mm width is used.
2. 10 mm width is used for all narrow belts.
GENERAL:
1. All wording must be legible (no smudging) and not covered by stitching in any
way.
2. Where garments are stone washed, over-dyed etc, wash care labels must still
be legible. If this cannot be achieved, the care label must be sewn into the
garment after processing.
3. Wash care labels must be sewn into the garment, adhesive labels are not
acceptable for this purpose.
4. There must be a minimum of five (5) wash care symbols on the label.
5. For Lingerie, all wash care labels must have the brand printed onto the Label
(e.g. SKINY; PEEP)
5. Wash care labels must be submitted at the earliest opportunity for approval
and before PP sample approval stage.
6. Goods without wash care labels will not be accepted for distribution to stores
under any circumstances whatsoever.
7. Please submit all artworks for intended wash care abels to Truworths Textile
Laboratory and the relevant Garment Technologist for approval.
WASH CARE LABEL POSITIONING
HOW MUST THE WASH CARE LABEL BE ATTACHED?
1. Securely sewn-in to remain permanently attached to the garment.

2. Labels must be attached so that no wording is concealed
3. Reversible Garments: Label to be put into the pocket bag.
4. Labels to be concealed within the garments positioned as below according to
product type.
