World leaders on ROP form a platform to

spearhead alleviating blindness due to

ROP at the global level

At the 5th World Retinopathy of Prematurity Congress, on September 2nd,

2022, at the Conrad, Dubai, a World ROP Council was conceived. This
charter aims at pan-international collaboration as a tool to tackle the problems
of infant blindness across the world.
This World ROP Council (WCROp) was formed under the leadership of
Prof. Rajvardhan Azad and comprised of 25 ROP leaders across the globe.
Speaking at the Council, he said, “as we emerge from the challenges of
COVID-19 from the last two years, it is important to revive our resolve to
tackle ROP through global partnerships”

The task of WCROp would be to strengthen the work done by several

governments and non-governmental organizations and enhance other sectors.
The areas of collaboration were identified as creating training hubs, training
manpower, validating trainer and trainee certification, boosting industry to
support the growing demands of experts, creating common interactive
material, supporting research and setting up of a practical global clinical
registry.
WCROp will spearhead an effective and universal program to look after all
the emerging areas in screening, diagnosis and skilful management of ROP.
This global group represents all major regions.

5th World ROP Congress

September 1st to 4th, 2022,

Prof. Domenico Lepore, Secretary offered to host the next World ROP
Congress in Italy. He said, "we will be working on the Vision and Mission
statement and will register the platform in Italy shortly"
