How important do you think it is for the managers to understand the selection process to

make a good decision?

Having to learn about the selection process in this subject under Module 5, I fully

understand how it may influence the decision-making of those in charge of the management.

And, in order to answer the question, I believe it is critical for individuals, not just managers,

who are doing or are task in this type of job to understand the essence of selection process.

Besides that, when I learned more about this selection process, I was surprised to learn that it is

made up of many components and considerations by attempting to find the best possible

process regarding selecting people. Since, in my personal view, selecting or picking a candidate

suit for a vacant position is not a spoon feed or emotional responses related that when you

assume as though individual is suit for the job, you will choose that person without giving it a

second thought, because from what I recall from the last synchronous meeting held on May 13,

2022, the selection process is like little by little putting a fake tattoo on your arm— slowly but

surely, so regrets will not end up coming.

Furthermore, hiring the unsuitable individual for the job will have an impact not just

with the hiring manager's career, but also the organization's overall circulation. Additionally,

from what I have experience, it is preferable if the firm has a visible guide, such as the selection

process, so that they can be confident that the selection they go through would not lead to

uncertainty, including the applicants who applied for the job, because it appears to be

unreasonable if individuals who are willing to submit an application are not considered due to

the firm managers' lack of knowledge about the selection process.

Do you think that there is a problem when the employers do an internet searches to turn up
information on the job candidate?

My stance on this scenario is currently in the middle, or let's just say 50/50, because I

understand that there are benefits and drawbacks when an employer does this to satisfy the

information requirements of some job candidates. Pros, which may cause the employer to fill in

much-needed data that he or she failed to look for upon making the selection, and of course its

counterpart downsides, which may come if the employer discovers a serious misinformation

about the candidate being considered for the position.

However, I am aware that to sometimes acquire basic information on every particular

topic, almost all of us impulsively rely on the internet. It's no wonder, therefore, that businesses

or some employers are using the internet to assess job applications. In addition to this,

according to one source I got, 80 percent of companies are now "looking up" job applicants to

learn more about them than a curriculum vitae and soft copy can provide. This strategy,

however, does not come without consequences for companies. Hence, when employers ponder

making decisions that shape their ties between the two employees, anti-discrimination

regulations are among the first that spring to my mind. These regulations also apply to

employment applications or "potential workers" with appropriate pressure. Also, some of the

information in the internet is not considered as reliable sources, employers should make sure that they

do a fact check since it does not make sense if they just do it without thinking if what they get was

actually reliable or not, beside it makes it illegal for an employer to deny or delay hiring someone

because of their race, nationality, faith, gender, or ethnic origin that they just get in the

internet.
1. What has your college experience taught you about how people learn that can be applied

in the workplace?

For my two years of dealing with Management Accounting, I could say that I have gotten

so far to answer this question because two years has never been a joke for every student like

me enrolling in a course under the College of Business and Financial Science that molds us to be

the best version of ourselves in every phase we are about to take each and every day, and so

far, I can indeed say that these learnings or experiences are very much relevant in a so-called

workplace if we will tend to apply them.

One of which is by being persistent from the things that may affect my overall

performance in every subject I enrolled for, because, in my opinion, being persistent in a variety

of situations is one of the positive attitudes that a person should have and keep in mind in

order to be passionately committed to his or her career and in the workplace itself, besides a

lot of good things will start if we try to apply the positive things to ourselves knowing no one is

being harm upon doing it, because that is what I always tell to myself the first I entered college,

which until now I still keep in mind no matter how stressful my course is.

Second is having to have a fixed decisive mindset, since in the course I chose, I realized

that being indecisive in everything can affect ones performance as a student, which I can

honestly say does exist, because some of us students who are uncertain in a lot of things when

the first semester started and it completely affected our certain performance, as we're still

adjusting in the new platform of learning. And to relate this in the actual workplace, my

experience could somehow attest that being indecisive is not really good in the actual
workplace knowing that many people depends on you and your performance is being

evaluated, most especially if you are just a beginner for your position.

Third is being able to embrace change in every second. When I initially started college, I

was satisfied by the box that likes to wrap me up in order for me to continuously complain

about various things that might simply be solved if I just thought about it. And during my times

here in UMak, I have come to conclusion that being able to embrace change is one of the best

thing that I could do so I can initially lessen the burden that studying making me feel, besides

change is the only constant in this world. Having to mention this, for me, it is very much helpful

once applied in real field, since major experiences are happened to discover outside school.

Last but the major area of life the has been significant lesson and experience for me is if

by allowing ourselves to be a beginner, I know this is somehow common and could easily read

in every motivational quotes, pages and articles in the internet, but trust me, when I started

college I appreciate the message behind this quote, since if we allow ourselves to experience

the state of being a beginner in the field where no one is familiar, you will be open to know the

rest. Because it's the same at workplace, you have to start without knowing anything so that

you may understand every aspect of life's continuity, and it's the same way at present. Apart

from that, the majority of us began as amateurs.
