1.4 Process Conditions
The flare system was designed according to the following process specifications as defined by the customer:
The following site conditions were used to complete the engineering design of the flare system:
SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
1. The user should make periodic inspections of all piping for vent gas to check for deterioration and possible
source of leaks. Maintenance personnel should have proper equipment while doing inspection.
2. Periodically, examine all gas to purge out from vent tip. Clear the valve of foreign matter. Clean or replace as
necessary.
3. A snuffing system or equivalent equipment shall be provided to immediately extinguish the flame in case
accidental ignition of the gas.
4. Customer should not make any modification to the unit, without first consulting KMI for technical review and
written comments/ permission. Modification may void the equipment warranty.
5. Read the instruction manual for your system, for important operational, maintenance and safety information, if
you have misplaced it, obtain another copy from PT. KMI.
6. Before attempting any procedure in this guide, read the instructions thoroughly and observe specific safety
precautions.

7. Take the time to set-up properly before starting maintenance or repair procedures on your system, gathering
the tools and material necessary. Work logically and systematically and never rush or attempt to take a
shortcut.
8. When undertaking maintenance or repair procedures on your system, always use the right tools for the job
and use them correctly.
9. While performing maintenance or repair procedures on your system, keep your work area well lit and free of
clutter.
10. Never work with electricity in damp or wet conditions.
11. Make sure that replacement parts you install on your system are genuine PT. KMI parts. Use only
replacement parts that match the specifications of the originals.
12. Ensure that any change or modifications carried out to your system conforms to local codes. Contact PT.KMI
prior to any modifications for review and confirmation.
13. Store paints, solvents and other flammable materials well away from the system.
14. Familiarize yourself and personnel with the correct procedures for shutting off the system and each utility label
the main shut-offs for quick identification. NOTE: The shut-offs must be in a remote safe location
15. Contact PT.KMI for a thorough annual check-up of your system.
16. If your system uses oil, clean up any spill from a leak immediately. Dispose of oil-soaked material following
local environmental regulations.
17. Post the telephone numbers of the Fire Department, the Electrical Utility, the Oil and Gas Companies, PT.
KMI and Emergency Medical Help at each telephone in your plant.
Conduct a visual inspection of the entire vent system. Use binoculars to aid in inspection of the vent tip.
1. Check for leaks from piping, flanges, drains, man ways vent stack and all other connections which could either
allow gas to escape (resulting in a fire or external explosion).
2. Check for snuffing system or equivalent equipment is ready to immediately extinguish flame in accidental
flaring case.
3. Check all ladders/platforms if any proper installation and that all bolts & nuts are installed and tight. Do not
climb ladders and platforms until you have first inspected them visually from the ground. Check that the
grating on each platform is welded in place and not loose. Loose grating could cause someone to fall. Check
for installation of platform opening guards to prevent objects from falling through.
The operating summary outlines the critical information related to the Vent Tip control system. Because Vent
Tip only release waste gas to atmosphere, it doesn’t need control to operation. It’s only need control to
inspection and maintenance that will be described the following below.
4.0 INSTALLATION
The sections that follow outlines the procedures required to successfully install the flare system. The intent of
these procedures is to provide guidance and general steps to complete the installation. These procedures are
not intended to be a substitute for experienced installation personnel. Field assembly and erection of the
system is outside the scope of work to be provided by PT. KOTAMINYAK INTERNUSA., and is the sole
responsibility of others. It is understood that the field contractor retained by the customer is familiar with the
assembly and erection of tall towers and systems of this manner.
The following guidelines provide approximate on-site requirements for personnel and equipment:

6.0 SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
The following sections summarize the required maintenance of the general vent system. Diligence to the
maintenance is required to ensure the system remains in optimum operating condition. Failure to maintain the
system as required could lead to damage or malfunction.
Annual inspection for vent tip is not recommended.
