ITU REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON TRANSITION TO DIGITAL BROADCASTING AND DIGITAL DIVIDEND

Programme The main objective of this workshop is to provide information to participants on the transition from the analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting issues, including digital dividend.
Day 1 (Thursday 26 May 2011) - Transition to Digital Broadcasting Registration: 8:00 9:00-9:30 Opening Session (ITU- MIC Viet Nam)  Welcome remarks  Opening remarks 9:30-10:30 Session 1: Digital Migration Strategies
Objective: To provide information on the importance of the digital migration and the relevant assistance of the ITU

Objective: To share country experiences on the digital television transition

 Transition to Digital Broadcasting- VIETNAMS ROADMAP (ARFM, Vietnam)  An Overview on Digital Transition in Korea (RAPA, Korea) 12:00-14:00 Lunch break 14:00-15:30 Session 3: Country Experiences (cont.) & Legislative Aspects
Objective: Providing overview on the transition around the world and discussing the legislative aspects

 Digital migration worldwide - Status Report (ITU)  Policy and Regulatory aspects (ITU)  Discussions 15:30-16:00 Coffee break 16:00-18:30 Session 4: Implementation Aspects
Objective: To understand how to implement the digital broadcasting and how to inform the users

Day 2 ( Friday 27 May 2011) - Digital Dividend 9:00-10:30 Session 5: Current status - Country Experience
Objective: What is the importance of the Digital dividend and what is the present status of the implementation

 Digital Dividend - Where are we? (ITU)  How to use the spectrum more efficiently (Viettel)  Maximize utilization of VHF spectrum with digital conversion. Terrestrial DMB evolution: how mobile TV implemented with VHF? (Justin Young Kim, DMBRO, Korea) 10:30-11:00 Coffee break 11:00-12:30 Session 6: Digital Dividend Options
Objective: How to use the digital dividend and how to share the spectrum among the possible users

 Who gets the digital dividend (ITU)  Sharing of spectrum in the UHF band (Ericsson)  Discussions 12:30-14:00 Lunch break 14:00-15:30 Session 7: Regional and World -Wide Harmonization
Objective: What is the importance of the harmonization of the spectrum utilization
